So, I have two different applications in my CodeIgniter installation. One is admin, the other is frontend. I basically just copied the index file, renamed it "admin.php", and changed the application directory to "application/admin". I then changed the application directory in index.php to "application/frontend".
What I would like to do is create a link on the frontend application that takes you to the admin application. The variable config['index_page'] in the frontend application is set to "index.php" and in the admin application it's set to "admin.php".
Is there a way to set the url helper to use "admin.php" instead of "index.php"?
You don't need to do that way.
you should make or use an authentication library and you set different roles for different
users.
you just after login can put the redirection to your admin controller.
and for other users and viewers you can redirect them to any other controllers.
for viewers you can just use something like this:
Code:
if(!$this->m_auth->is_logged_in())
{
$this->viewers();
}
else
{
$this->users();
}
In your users function you just check different roles and redirect according.
I think you are missing some codeigniter concept, and you are trying to do it the normal way, i suggest you to read this article , you will how you can use MY_Controller as same concept of front controller and how you will be able to give every use specific roles
another way is to use a ready made authentication library as #medhi said
I would recommend Tank Authentication or Ion Auth

Hi i'm new to codeigniter.
I have developed this website using CI.
http://maxmovies.in/fattto
Now i want to create the admin panel for this website.
I want the url like this to access the admin panel.
http://maxmovies.in/fattto/admin/
First i thought adding a admin controller and proceed with that.
But my back-end will have around 25 pages.
I don't think adding 25 functions in the single controller is not
good idea.
I searched and got some tutorial but i'm not clear with that.
So can any one help me to config the admin panel for my website?
Thanks to all and sorry for if my english is not good.
create fattto/admin folder in controller view and module and set all code in this folder
when u write http://maxmovies.in/fattto/admin/ it open admin panel whatever code u write
You could organise your controllers into sub-folders, which would give you the desired effect.
The use of Routing could also help you achieve what you want, which will allow you to map a URL to a particular controller/method.
So I've built a front-end to a website in Codeigniter, it has public and members areas.
Now it's time to build the backend administration where staff can manage some content: http://mysite.com/admin
At first I was going to just create subfolders within my controllers, models,views and resources folders for 'admin'
I'm wondering if I should just be doing a separate installation of CI for the admin? the layouts are different, the auth is different, sure they will share the same MySQL database but the admin will have different models and controllers
Best approach?
This article by Phil will give you a better idea:

GMAccess is a Joomla! component that makes managing groups and access permissions easy, you will be able to create a special group and add your user (via Joomla's user management) to it and manage which pages can be viewed by that group.
I have an asp.net application which has web.config file in every folder of the application. Every folder has many aspx pages in it.I need to assign/deny privileges through coding for every individual pages of folders.The privileges is role based privileges.so some roles will have privileges to only some pages in each folder.
Please help me how to achieve this..
Honestly, control permissions by folder is the easiest.
But, try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316871
