I need to make an ajax call from one application(my-app) to other application(my-web) in the same domain. The ajax call will invoke the controller in my-web.
I made a ajax call like below, but got an error saying
"Ajax call ended in error"
code:
var base = document.URL;
var servletContextPath = base.substr(0, base.indexOf(window.location.pathname)) + "/my-web";
$(document).on("click", ":focus", function () {
$.ajax(servletContextPath + "/ajax/mycall");
});
Both applications are hosted in weblogic like
http://localhost:8090/my-web
http://localhost:8090/my-app
What is the best possible way to do ajax call between applications?
You can provide a relative URL when making an AJAX call.
$(document).on("click", function () {
$.ajax("/my-web/ajax/mycall");
});

Question: When I have an ajax call to server and I need to change the views based on the result of ajax call, the views don't get affected by this call, I think it the page renders before ajax call is finished but I don't know how to resolve it
For example the following piece of code
$scope.addItem = function() {
$http({
method :'GET',
url : 'addItem',
headers : {'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'}
}).success( function(data) {
$scope.allItems = data;
});
}
the allItems changed after the ajax call but the view is not changed
how should I solve this?
I have recently migrated from a codeigniter framework, to a nodejs with an express framework. Our codeigniter site had a lot of JS as it was, and we made a lot of AJAX calls because it is a single page app. We are messing around with node and express now, and I cannot get a simple AJAX call to function. It could be a lack of understanding of node, it could be something else. We are using openshift to host. We are using hogan-express as a template.
server.js
var express = require('express');
var fs = require('fs');
var http = require('http');
var path = require('path');
var SampleApp = function() {
var self = this;
self.initializeServer = function() {
self.app = module.exports = express();
self.app.configure(function() {
self.app.set('views', __dirname + '/views');
self.app.set('view engine', 'html');
self.app.engine('html', require('hogan-express'));
//self.app.set('layout', 'layout') # use layout.html as the default layout
self.app.use(express.favicon());
self.app.use(express.logger('dev'));
self.app.use(express.bodyParser());
self.app.use(express.methodOverride());
self.app.use(express.session());
self.app.use(self.app.router);
self.app.use(require('stylus').middleware(__dirname + '/public'));
self.app.use(express.static(path.join(__dirname, 'public')));
});
require('./routes');
}
There is more code in this file, I am only including the relevant code (I think).
Ajax.html
<div id="button">
<button id="testbutton">Push Me!</button>
</div>
<div id="populate">{{title}}</div>
<div id="null">{{>part}}</div>
<script type='text/javascript'>
$(function(){
$('#testbutton').click(function (){
$.ajax({
url:'/test',
type: 'POST',
success: function(result){
alert('success!');
},
error: function(){
alert("well this is embarassing... if the problem persists please let us know at facebook.com/stembuds");
}
});
});
});
</script>
index.js
app = require('../server');
app.get('/', function(req, res){
res.render('ajax');
});
app.post('/test', function(req, res){
console.log('get');
res.locals = {title: 'Horray'};
res.render('ajax', {partials:{part:'part'}});
});
part.html
<p> pass me in!!</p>
So basically what I am trying to do is when the button is clicked I want the ajax call to show a partial view. The way we are going to structure the site is to have one single page, and have the ajax calls render different views based on the buttons that the user clicks. So here is the interesting part: I get the success alert from the ajax call, but the {{title}} and the {{>part}} never show up. However, when I go to the console and click 'network', and then click 'test' (the url to my ajax call), the response shows the divs populated with "Horray" and "pass me in!!". Sorry for the length, and thank you for any information you can provide us.
If you are calling your resources with ajax (as you are doing) then you get the response to your ajax function. After successful call you need to render the view in your client side JS code.
What I mean is that your code works as expected, but your backend cannot update your browsers view. You need to do it client side or load the whole page again from the server.
Your success hander could be something like this:
success: function(result){
renderTheResults(result);
},
You can just send the JSON. You need to send the json via send not render. Because render is supposed to deliver the full HTML page. May be .ejs file.
For example:
res.send({partials:{part:'part'}});
res.send should be used to pass json to your page. And on your page you have to use the JSON to populate the HTML dynamically.
I have a probleme with ah changePage.
I want to switch the Page after an Ajax call.
If the form get submit, this function will be executed, but after the ajax call the page does not switch.
If I wanna set a Breakpoint on this call, it do not stop.
What can I do, that I can switch the page after the ajax call.
$("#serialNumber").submit(function() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "mobilemain.do",
data: "serialNumberInput=" + $("#serialNumberInput").val(),
success: function(msg)
{
$.mobile.changePage("#machine_manuals", "slide");
}
});
});
Edit:
Ok!
I found some hint to my Problem.
The SAP-Server call is from the form-submit and not from my ajax-call.
He never goes in the method above.
On my Server, I made that:
l_view = create_view( view_name = 'main.htm').
call_view( l_view ).
But I does not wanna call the main.htm .
I wanna call the second page in the jquery mobile project. (main.htm#machine_manuals)
How does that work?
Other than the page you are changing to, all options for $.mobile.changePage are passed as a key-value pair in an object.
Your changePage should look like this:
$.mobile.changePage("#machine_manuals", {transition: "slide"});
The documentation for the method, and the options available can be found here:
http://api.jquerymobile.com/jQuery.mobile.changePage/
I have an Ajax post call written in a separate ".js" file which I call in multiple pages.
My code looks like this:
$.ajax({
url: '/MyVirtualDirectory/Controller/Action',
type: 'POST',
dataType: 'json',
....
....
})
Each time I change my virtual directory in my server, I'm required to change the code in "URL" to make my Ajax call working.
Is there any method that can make my code independent of my "Virtual Directory" name in IIS ..?
My application is MVC3.
Description
You should use the Url.Action method. But in your case, a seperate js file, you cant access this method. So i would create a javascript variable for each url in your view. Then you can use this variable in your js file.
UrlHelper.Action Method - Generates a fully qualified URL to an action method.
Sample
Your View
<script type="text/javascript">
var myUrl = '#Url.Action("actionName", "controllerName")';
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="yourJsFile.js"/>
Your js file
$.ajax({
url: myUrl,
....
})
Update
Another way is to store your url in a hidden field inside your view and get the hidden fields value inside your js file.

I finally found a partial work around.
In my .js file i did some dirty coding like this:
var Path = location.host;
var VirtualDirectory;
if (Path.indexOf("localhost") >= 0 && Path.indexOf(":") >= 0) {
VirtualDirectory = "";
}
else {
var pathname = window.location.pathname;
var VirtualDir = pathname.split('/');
VirtualDirectory = VirtualDir[1];
VirtualDirectory = '/' + VirtualDirectory;
}
$.ajax({
url: VirtualDirectory/Controller/Action,
....})
The basic idea is I check the URL for localhost and port number. If both are there, it means that then I'm debugging in my local machine and so I don't need virtualdirectory in URL. If I'm running a hosted version then there won't be localhost and port number in my URL(provided I'm hosting on port 80).
And by this way when I run on my local machine while debugging the url will be only Controller/Action and while I host the URL will be VirtualDirectory/Action/Controller. It works fine for me now.
But please post if there is any other simple method.
I think it would be safer to declare a global Javascript variable and then set the variable for the first time, maybe when Home/Index fires. and then reuse it in every ajax calls like so:
$.ajax({... url: GlobalVariablePath + "Controller/Action/RouteValues" ...})
if you already designed your WebApp and every thing works fine and stuck when site is deployed, then you can manipulate the all ajax URLs like so:
$.ajaxSetup({
beforeSend: function (jqXHR, settings) {
settings.url = GlobalVariablePath + settings.url;
}
});
Using this way, you can safely use the existing js codes and leave the rest without change.
I have a JSP page called CreateProcessGroup.jsp and I use an annotation controller to map requests to CreateProcessGroup.htm to that page. But I'm having an interesting issue when I request the page from browser it works, when send a request using jQuery $.get method I get 404 (CreateProcessGroup.htm not found) is there a difference between two requests?
My JSP page just under WebContent dir and JS file under WEBContent/Jquery my function sending the request like below:
function SendCreateProcessGroupRequest()
{
var pid = $('#pid').val();
var description = $('#processGroupDescription').val();
var x = "/CreateProcessGroup.htm";
alert(x);
$.get(x, { pid: 62, description: description },
function(data){
alert("Data Loaded: " + data);
});
}
Do I need to give the URL as ../CreateProcessGroup.htm? Indeed I tried:
/CreateProcessGroup.htm
../CreateProcessGroup.htm
/../CreateProcessGroup.htm
../../CreateProcessGroup.htm
/../../CreateProcessGroup.htm
My guess is DispatcherServlet can not map Ajax requests to Controllers but this is stupid isn't it?
How can i get rid of the situation?
Thanks all.
Try this instead:
var x = "CreateProcessGroup.htm";
If the page you're requesting is beside the one making the request there's no need for a path in front, it will (by default) make a request to the same path just with that page/handler on the end.
