In TFS 2008 and visual studio there exists diffmerge.exe which is used to merge as a default merge tool in TFS. But what is the exe used in TFS 2012?
I have changed parameters to diffmerge.exe in setting as mentioned in this link for my convienient. I wanted to do same in visual studio 2012.But i didnt find diffmerge.exe itself. So what is the default merge tool used in visual studio 2012?

Yes, you can access Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS) from Visual Studio 2010, however, you will need two software updates:
Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 (KB2736182)
TFS 2012 compatibility update for Visual Studio 2010 (KB2662296)
Having said that, upgrading to Visual Studio 2017 is preferable if you can do that.
To bring your data into VSTS, the easiest way to do that is to use the TFS to VSTS migration tool, which providers an easy, high-fidelity migration into the cloud. However, since you don't require history, you can also perform a manual migration, where you simply check your assets into TFS directly.
I have a Visual Studio 2008 *.sln file. However, I can't open it using Visual Studio 2008 Express. It is unable to load the projects. I suspect it might be limited functionalities in the Express edition.
I also have an existing copy of Visual Studio 2015. Do I need to "downgrade" my Visual Studio 2015 to 2008 in order to open the *.sln file?

You dont need to downgrade as all version of Visual Studio can exist side by side.
You can easily install the full Visual Studio 2008 on the same machine as Visual Studio 2015. If you have an MSDN licence then you can just download 2008 and install..
I want to migrate a Visual Studio 2010 Solution so that I can work with Visual Studio 2013.
If I understand it right, due to the round-tripping feature of Visual Studio 2013,

Visual Studio 2013 can open a sln file created by Visual Studio 2010. However, Visual Studio 2010 can not open a sln file created by Visual Studio 2013.
The easiest way to see this is to open the sln file in a text editor and look at the first 2 lines:
Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 12.00

Visual Studio has a version setting in the header (this example is from VS 2012). An older version of the tool wont open the file.
Beyond that there aren't really any big differences in the file. There are certain project types (ie Project("{guid}") that aren't supported in older version of Visual Studio. For example a Visual Studio 2013 SDK project can only be opened with Visual Studio 2013.
To wrap up, if you have an existing Visual Studio 2010 sln file, there isn't really any need to change it. If you plan on opening it again in VS2010 then make sure you don't change it. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it and just let VS do whatever makes VS happy.
I have some requirements that I need to use Visual Studio 2008 for a new SSIS package. But we are using visualstudio.com as our source control because we were allowed to use Visual Studio 2012 for our main project.

Officially VS 2008 is only supported against TFS 2013 (and Visual Studio Online) by using the MSSCCI. However, in practice it still works fine without MSSCCI, MS just no longer tests this particular scenario, so it's not guaranteed to continue working.
Make sure you have the appropriate updates installed, you need:
VSTS 2008 Team Explorer
VS 2008 SP1
TFS 2012 Compatibility GDR
Order of installation is very important. Refer to this article.
Moreover, if you are still having issues connecting to TFS after successfully installing above mentioned updates, consider clearing your IE browsing history (all checkboxes) and retry.
Per MSDN you can access version control on Visual Studio Online with Visual Studio 2008 using Team Explorer for Visual Studio Team System 2008 and MSSCCI 2013.
I originally created an ASP.NET site in Visual Studio 2010 a few years ago and it went through the VS 2010 SP1 update as well. This meant that Visual Studio 2012 opened the solution without performing a one time upgrade.
The issue I am having is that the built-in browser selector in Visual Studio 2012 is not available for this project and the settings only let you use the default browser.
When I looked in the .SLN file, the version line indicates Visual Studio 2012 (i.e. # Visual Studio 2012) and no other setting in there appears to have anything to do with this limitation.
Has anybody had this issue and, if so, can you please let me know how your overcame it?

You're going to have to upgrade your project to allow it to make use of Visual Studio 2012 only features. Note, if you do this you will no longer be able to open your project in earlier versions of VS.
