Hyper-v in windows 8.1 single language - visual-studio-2013

How enable Hype-v in windows 8.1 single language for emulator windows phone app ( in Windows Phone "Sdk" 8.0)

hyper v is not available in windows 8.1 single language need to upgrade to windows 8.1 pro or use oracle vm

If you are developing Windows Phone app then surely you need Hyper-V to deploy the app over the Win Phone 8 image. But in case you are having Win 8.1 SL, you would be actually in trouble. The alternative is any other virtual tool. Here I suggest Oracle VirtualBox. After installing virtual box you have to create a machine with an OS image. For windows phone 8 or any other version goto "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.0\Emulation\Images". You can also go to v8.1. What I mean to say is to locate the directory for Flash.vhd. Copy the whole directory("\Images") to some other location. Start your VM and create a new machine with OS Windows 8 or 8.1 (depending upon the image version). In the next screen allocate RAM >= 1 GB. Then finally locate the Windows Phone image (Flash.vhd) after clicking "Use an existing virtual hard drive file". Click "Create" and all done!!
Another way of doing this without having any Virtual Machine is by Microsoft XDE. For this you have to start the CMD with admin rights and change the directory (CD) to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft XDE\8.0
(Remember the last directory into this path could be 8.1 as well). Then run the following command
XDE.exe -vhd “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.0\Emulation\Images\Flash.vhd”
Now I would suggest one more thing. Before doing all this first check where is all the stuff installed in your PC. And sorry, I have not taken care of so much formatting of this post. Enjoy :)

What is required to run a VB Group Project on Windows XP and Windows 7?

I had an application written in VB on my laptop which was running Windows XP until I formatted it yesterday. A friend copied it over several years ago but it's not possible to contact him anymore. This project consists of .vbg, .vbp, .vbw, etc. files and a few .mdb files which store the databases. I also had a shortcut on my desktop which was referencing a .vbg file which used to open up a window and I was then supposed to press a "Play" button to launch the application.
I've copied the required folders over to my new laptop which now has Windows 7 Professional (32 bit) but I have no idea how to run this application and what is required. I also tried creating a VM using Windows XP just to check if the problem is with Windows 7 (or above) but still I am probably missing other required software (a debugger perhaps? visual studio or something?).
My questions are:
Is it possible to run this project on Windows 7 and what software is required to accomplish that?
What am I missing on the Windows XP VM? Do I have to install Visual Basic or some other debugging software?
Appreciate your help,
Kyriacos.
First of all, you need to have visual basics to run the .vbg or .vbp files. There is no other application that supports those formats. And Second, you can run the project on windows 7 as it is compatible all the way to windows 10.

How can i open .vhdx using windows 7?

I have Windows 7 running on my machine, and other hand I have virtual hard disk file(.vhdx), which is creates using Windows 8. So as I know found,
Hyper-V isn't available on Windows 7 client SKUs, like Enterprise. It's only available on Windows Server 2008 x64 (some SKUs), Windows Server 2008 R2 (most SKUs), Windows 8 Professional x64, Windows 8 Enterprise x64, and Windows Server 2012 (again, most SKUs).
You've just installed the management tools which allow you to manage a remote instance of Hyper-V.
Is this correct ? If yes then is there any way i can open this .Vhdx in any other Softwares on Windows7 . Or how can I use it ?
I found below blog on "How to Restore VHD File backup" but looking for alternative way?
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/how-to-restore-vhd-file-backup/f3ed3ca5-3079-40cd-a959-835caeba80a7
Thank you
Royally late ... but I had the same problem and ended up implementing it in my software.
To answer your question
is there any way i can open this .Vhdx in any other Softwares on Windows7
You can use IsoBuster to open the *.vhdx files and extract files from the image file to your Windows 7 PC. ( download: www.isobuster.com/ )
I hope this helps ?

Windows 8.1 dont have hyper-v - cant use Windows Phone Emulator

Lately i wanted to get into Windows Phone 8 development and i installed Visual Studio 2013 + Windows Phone SDK 8 + Visual Studio 2013 Latest update.
My system parameters are:
- 8gb ram
- Windows 8.1 64bit system
- Intel i5
The moment i try to run a Windows Phone project a dialog appears and it says:
Title - " Cant start the windows phone emulator"
Subtitle - "The Windows Phone Emulator requires Hyper-V.Your PC is missing the following pre-requisites required to run Hyper-V:
-Windows 8 Professional(64 bit)"
After i saw that i checked for how to upgrade Normal Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Professional.
With no luck i tried to find out more about to install Hyper-V with the BIOS configuration with no luck as well.
Usually i develop on Android with Eclipse(with the Emulator) so i can't understand the reason why a emulator of Windows Phone can't run on my system.
P.S
I dont have Hyper-V feature in the Windows Feature list to Turn off/on
Thanks heads up for each answer! :)
The error is saying you need Windows 8.1 x64 Pro or Enterprise to be able to install Hyper-V. You can still develop phone apps in the edition of Windows 8.1 you have but you must debug on on a windows phone the emulator will not be available
System Control -> Programms and Functions -> "Activate or deactivate Windows Features" (in the left bar)
(freely translated from my german win8.1)
There you can activate Hyper-V if it is inside your Windows-version. Then try to restart VS2013 and start the emulator. I had to "deactivate" my Hyper-V and activate it again for some reason. Then it worked.
Good Luck! :)
The Windows Phone 8 emulator is a special Hyper-V image. It cannot run on other virtualization technology.
Without the emulator, the alternative option would be to use an actual device.
you can use a virtual machine to deploy windows phone 8 OS. Your System processor does not support hyper-v so, you can install win phone 8 on a virtual machine. you would found this link helpful.. check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WANk_XaovqM
Step which i followed; ( I already have windows 8.1 64-bit machine )
Enabled 'Virtualization / Hardware assisted virtualization' in bios. [ https://www.google.co.in/search?q=enable+virtualization+in+bios&oq=enable+virtual&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.5117j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8 ].
Hyper-V option came in 'windows features' after I did this step.
Later, I Became a member of Hyper-V admin group.

Register Windows Phone 7 as developer phone

I am running win 8.1 x64 and have followed this guide because I tried to resolve this message:
I have found this kb article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2468307
I have also closed zune, deleted the certificates and restarted zune. which did not help
and also tried to add a copy of the certificate to the trusted ones, as listed in the kb article.
I am becoming desperate. The ipoverusbsvc is running fine. I did register a windows phone 8 device and have this error also at an other windows phone 7. So it is just my pc and windows phone 7 devices. Have tried an htc trophy and lumia 800 the lumia 920 (wp8) works fine.
The lumia 800 has an active sim in it. the trophy does not (I think) Is it required to have zune logged in (live id)?
edit I have read somewhere that you do not need to launch zune! When I navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\WPConnect\x64
and run WpConnect.exe it gives this message:
Failed to connect to the device. Ensure that the device is completely booted and
is connected to the PC. (0x80070103)
But the phone is booted, swiped away the lockscreen... When I run phonereg.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.0\Tools\Phone Registration it tells me to verify that ipoverusbsrv should be up and running, which is up and running.
I also added zune to the firewall exceptions and followed these steps on the device: http://forums.wpcentral.com/developers-corner/211829-visual-studio-stopped-connecting-wp7.html
edit 2 I tried to install win 7 in a virtual pc to test if it works on that os. But I got a message that the wp sdk 8 cannot be installed on win7. it was packaged with the visual studio 2012 express for windows phone...
The device that wanted to be registered as a developer device should be logged in with a Microsoft Live account. If you can download any application from marketplace this means that phone is logged in.
Could you try again registering your device with another usb port or another micro usb cable?
The answer was to run Windows 7 in a virtual machine with Zune. It does not work on Windows 8.1 with Zune. You cannot register a Windows Phone 7 with windows 8.1
When I run phonereg.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft
SDKs\Windows Phone**v8.0**\Tools\Phone Registration
Your problem is "v8.0". I tried on a Windows 8 (not 8.1) machine running this file -
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\Phone Registration\PhoneReg.exe
and it worked like a charm. Note the "v7.1" in the path.
I tried to install win 7 in a virtual pc to test if it works on that
os. But I got a message that the wp sdk 8 cannot be installed on win7
Correct, but irrelevant. If you want to register a WP7 phone you need to use the WP7.1 SDK
Might be a bit late, but perhaps others try to register their phone in the last minute just like me:
Windows 8.1 Pro Update (= latest version as of today)
Control Panel → Program and Features → Turn Windows features on or off → .NET Framework 3.5
Zune 4.8
Windows Phone SDK 8.0
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v8.0\Tools\Phone Registration
I registered one phone with SIM inserted, one without.
I registered one phone with Windows Live ID, one without.
I registered one phone as Zune sync guest, one as full partner.
I registered one phone with Windows Phone 7.5, one with 7.8.
Windows Phone SDK 8.1 did not work for me.
Windows Phone SDK 7.1 did not work for me, even not in Windows 7 Ultimate (not required because the Windows Phone SDK 8.0 comes with SDK 7.1 actually). My Microsoft Account has two-step verification enabled. Now, these phones are listed in my Windows Phone Dev Center.

Windows 8 emulator on windows 7?

By building my android aplication on phonegap for windows 8 i got a .xap file. Now am not having windows 8 pc or windows 8 phone. I want to test my xap file, so what can i do now? Is that possible to run the xap file on windows 7 if so how ? I tried by installing windows software development kit but i couldnt find any emulator. Is there any other way to run the application on windows 7 desktop ?
No, there's no emulator for Windows 8 on Windows 7.
Your best bet would be virtual machine. Two most popular options are VirtualBox and VMware. You can run virtual PC and install Windows 8 on it (you'd need a Windows 8 installation though).
Microsoft released new virtual images with different Operating Systems and Browsers on modern.ie. On the right side of the page you'll find different virtualization options as well as download links to different images. You can download and use these images without having to worry about buying any license, getting the system installed, etc. (they're time limited, but you can just reset your virtual machine at will).
