I originally created my XCode project with version 3.2.6 and it's moved through 4.x to 5.0. I only just realised that XCode 3.2.6 was still my default XCode and that new projects are .xcode rather than .xcodeproj.
Is there an easy way to update my project - or will XCode have done this and simply kept the old name?
Open the Xcode project by Right click the .xcode file and click the open with option and choose the latest Xcode application.

I have a Mac version 10.7.5 with Xcode 4.6.3 installed. I have an application built in Xcode 5 and this project doesn't open in my older Xcode installation. It shows me an error saying
The document "Main.Storyboard" could not be opened.Could not read archive. Please use a newer version of Xcode. Consider changing the document's Development target to preserve compatibility.
Why am I not able to run this application using My Xcode.
In Xcode 5, select the storyboard and in the File Inspector, make sure the following option is selected:
You should then be able to open it in Xcode 4.6.3.
I have a slow internet connection and am trying to avoid downloading previous XCode documentation sets and SDKs.
I just installed XCode 4.5 and see they included no documentation sets for any iOS version. There is also only the SDK for iOS 6.
I deploy on iOS version 4.2 and later. I also had many iOS SDKs for testing and all the docsets.
Is it an issue to copy my 4.2, 4.3, 5.0, etc. docsets and SDKs to the XCode 4.5?
The new install location is different so I'm even wondering where I would move them to.
Thanks in advance
My old Developer folder was in the root HD folder. I don't know if that's typical. The docsets were located here:
HD/Developer/Documentation/DocSets
The simulators were located here:
HD/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get XCode 4.5 to recognize any docset I moved from my XCode 4.2 installation. I had to let XCode 4.5 download them.
I did successfully move content from my developer XCode 4.5 GM to the AppStore XCode 4.5.
The .docset files are stored here:
~/Library/Developer/Shared/Documentation/DocSets
Nothing had to be done as XCode 4.5 from the AppStore recognized what I had downloaded using my XCode 4.5 GM. This is good news because it means future XCode versions will probably recognize them as well.
The simulator files are stored inside the XCode.app itself:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/
I just copied these folders from the XCode 4.5 GM to the App Store XCode 4.5 into the above folder:
iPhoneSimulator4.3.sdk
iPhoneSimulator5.0.sdk
iPhoneSimulator5.1.sdk
My understanding is that the minimum supported deployment target with Xcode 4.5 or later is iOS 4.3 so I didn't move any other simulator SDKs.
Of course, you need to control-click (or right mouse click) the XCode application and select Show Package Contents before you can navigate to the Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/ folder.
I don't know what this means when a new Xcode is release and the App Store installs the update. Will it wipe out these SDKs I moved? I've already made a backup of my modified XCode 4.5 in case they are lost when upgrading XCode through the App Store.
Hope this is helpful.
I downloaded a sample code from the MAC OSX developer library and the code is the format of a .pbproj (Project builder) and im unable to open it on xcode.
I have tried the following without any luck:-
1) Rename FancyAbout.pbproj to Old.xcodeproj
2) Open Old.xcodeproj. Xcode will ask you to upgrade it. Save it as
FancyAbout.xcodeproj.
3) When the project opens, choose Project > Upgrade All Targets in
Project to Native... to upgrade to the Xcode build system
4) Build and run.
I run a Mac 10.7.3 with Xcode on 4.3.2
Anyone have any suggestions on how i can get this running in xcode?
Thanks in advance!
To the best of my knowledge older Project Builder, and even older Xcode projects can not be opened or upgraded directly. The only real way you could upgrade would be to find a previous version of Xcode that is able to open and upgrade the older project then save the project using the older Xcode and see if the newest Xcode is then able to open the upgraded project.
Or, simply create a new Xcode project and copy over all the source files from the old project into your new project and go from there. This option is probably considerably easier then trying to find older versions of Xcode to do the upgrade with.
When I click on a project on Xcode it loads the old xcode, but I just installed the new XCode 4.3. How can I configure my Mac to load the new Xcode instead of the old Xcode?
I know that I had installed correctly the new Xcode 4.3 because I can still load it just by clicking on the icon of Xcode 4.3, but my old Xcode still somewhere of the hard drive causing it to boot when you click directly on any file of a project on Xcode.
It is very useful to load the Xcode directly from the projects itself vs. loading first the Xcode, then looking for the right project to open.
Thank you in advance.
Xcode 4.3 [is now fully self-contained][1] in the app bundle that is installed in the /Applications folder. The 4.2 installation in the /Developer folder is left intact. The first time you run Xcode 4.3, you'll be prompted to remove old tools.
You have to delete Xcode from /Developer/Applications, and drag the Xcode 4.3 app to /Applications. It should work fine after that.
I'm about to download Xcode 4 and was wondering, will project files from the recent version of Xcode work with the new version?
I have opened and saved files without any problem between 3.2.5 and xCode 4. I heard that some had problems with interface builder generated files though. But I think you can say that you are safe if you're not using IB.
