I'm trying to craft a route for a controller that will submit some data to a database. My URL is as follows:
http://example.co.uk/posts/5/edit?type=job
I've tried
Route::post('/posts/{id}/edit?type={role}', 'PostsContoller#store');
but am unsure if this will fly?
Don't add parameters in your route:
Route::post('/posts/{id}/edit', 'PostsContoller#store');
In your controller, just check if parameter exist:
$type = Input::has('type') ? Input::get('type') : null;
Don't worry about HTTP verb, as Input access for all verbs (POST,GET,PUT,DELETE...).
Edit
As pointed out by #Antoine, you can simply specify the default value in the get method
$type = Input::get('type', null);
I don't think that this is the right way to do it.
First way
If you change your route to
Route::post('/posts/{id}/edit/{role?}', 'PostsContoller#store');
You will then call the URL: GET posts/42/edit/job.
your store function in PostsController will be:
public function store($id, $role = null)
{
// some code
}
Second way
You can use another route like:
Route::post('/posts/{id}/edit', 'PostsContoller#store');
You will then call the URL: GET posts/42/edit?type=job
And you can get the type in your store function in PostsController:
public function store($id)
{
// $role will be null if type is not in the URL
$role = Input::get('type', null);
// additional code
}
I would personally go for the second way.

I have tried multiple solution but nothing worked yet, i am trying to get route Parameter in controller that was passed from a view.
Here is how i have created the route:
Route::get('addOptions/{questionId}', 'QuestionController#addOptions')->name('addOptions');
Here is how i am passing parameter to route from view:
Add Options
And here is what i am trying to get in controller but it's returning empty array:
public function addOptions(Request $request)
{
$allParameters = $request->input(); //not working
//$allParameters = $request->all(); //not working
//$allParameters = Input::all(); //not working
return $allParameters;
}
It returns empty array [] like this.
EDIT: But url at route addOptions look like this http://127.0.0.1:8000/admin/addOptions/4 in which 4 is questionId which means parameter is being passed but not retrieved.
What am I doing wrong here? Please guide, Thanks.
You should be passing the route like this:
Add Options
as for Laravel docs. the route params are passed an array with the key referencing the param
$url = route('profile', ['id' => 1]);
To retrieve the data in your controller, you should use:
$request->route()->paremeters()
or
$request->route('parameter_name')
If you want to pass the parameter
Add Options
I think your function parameters are wrong
You are passing question id from Route So your function should be like
public function addOptions($questionId)
{
$allParameters = $questionId; // you question ID passed throught Route
return $allParameters;
}
in my case i have a route for get and set API.
if user want to get something i don't want to check Validation. but if his wants to set, i Want to Check Request input validation with Request file.
look:
class EventsController extends Controller
{
public function get(Request $request)
{
if( empty($request['data']) )
{
// Return Request.. is ok
}elseif( !empty($request['data']) && $request->has('data.id') )
{
// so User want to insert in database and I want to check
// Validation with Request file in the method
// How can i Do this?
call $this->store( // send Request to that for Validation )
}
}
public function store(ValidateInput $request)
{
// Insert into Database
}
}
Note: in the getMethod i don't want check validation but in store method i want!
1- i don't want to use other Route and i want do Both in one Request and Route
2- my main Question: who can i change Method in Controller and pass Request to that!
you can try something like :
//Calling a method that is from the EventsController
$result = (new EventsController)->store();
but the best approche is to split them into two methods as #Sandeesh said
I searched more time to find how to get the controller method name by passing the URL but not found my expected answer. I want to make a method where I will pass a URL and it will give the corresponding controller action like as below but I can't figure out.
I found a helper which just return the current URL's action which is Route::currentRouteAction()
If a route in my application like as Route::get('/abc', 'YourController#method') which will generate the url http://example.com/abc
then how can I get the YourController#method by passing http://example.com/abc
function getAction($url){
//what will be logic?
// return like App\Controllers\MyController#method
}
I have to make a custom permission system where I need it for show and hide the menu by checking the URL of each menu.
Within your controller you can do the following:
<?php
use Illuminate\Routing\Router;
use Illuminate\Http\Request;
public function index(Request $request, Router $route)
{
$action = $router->getRoutes()->match($request)->getActionName();
// action should be what you're looking for.
}
You can try this if you want to:
Route::get('/the/url', 'YourController#method');
Every time anything calls the URL in the route, your method will be called.
You don't need to navigate to that url to call your method, it could be called by a form action, or a buttons action and just execute your method.
Edit:
url is your url as parameter (plain route)
import this:
use Illuminate\Routing\Route;
this is your function:
public function method(Route $route, $url)
{
$routes = \Route::getRoutes()->getRoutes();
foreach($routes as $r){
if($r->getUri() == $url){
$youraction= $r->getActionName();
dd($youraction);
}
else{
dd('does not exist');
}
}
}
Tested.
I have a base controller (base) which all other controllers extend from.
Anything placed here will override other controllers, the redirects will be here.
URLs example:
http://domain.com/controllerone/function
http://domain.com/controllertwo/function
http://domain.com/controllerthree/function
Using the code below. will give me the controller name
$this->uri->segment(1);
Each of the above controllers need to be redirected to separate URLs, but the funcation part should not change:
http://domain.com/newcontrollerone/function
http://domain.com/newcontrollertwo/function
http://domain.com/newcontrollerthree/function
In my base controller i want the following logic:
$controller_name = $this->uri->segment(1);
if($controller_name === 'controllerone'){
// replace the controller name with new one and redirect, how ?
}else if($controller_name === 'controllertwo'){
// replace the controller name with new one and redirect, how ?
}else{
// continue as normal
}
i was thinking i should use redirect() function and str_replace(), but dont know how efficient these would be. Ideally i do not want to use the Routing class.
thanks.
try
header("Location:".base_url("newcontroller/".$this->uri->segment(2)));
Simple Solution using segment_array:
$segs = $this->uri->segment_array();
if($segs[1] === 'controllerone'){
$segs[1] = "newcontroller";
redirect($segs);
}else if($segs[1] === 'controllertwo'){
$segs[1] = "newcontroller2";
redirect($segs);
}else{
// continue as normal
}
CodeIgniter's URI Routing, should be able to help in this case. However, if you have a good reason not to use it, then this solution may help.
The potential redirects are in an array, where the key is the controller name being looked for in the URL and the value is the name of the controller to redirect to. This may not be the most efficient but I think it should be easier to manage and read than a potentially very long if-then-else statement.
//Get the controller name from the URL
$controller_name = $this->uri->segment(1);
//Alternative: $controller_name = $this->router->fetch_class();
//List of redirects
$redirects = array(
"controllerone" => "newcontrollerone",
"controllertwo" => "newcontrollertwo",
//...add more redirects here
);
//If a redirect exists for the controller
if (array_key_exists($controller_name, $redirects))
{
//Controller to redirect to
$redirect_controller = $redirects[$controller_name];
//Create string to pass to redirect
$redirect_segments = '/'
. $redirect_controller
. substr($this->uri->uri_string(), strlen($controller_name)); //Function, parameters etc. to append (removes the original controller name)
redirect($redirect_segments, 'refresh');
}
else
{
//Do what you want...
}
I have a function that needs to pull arguments from the URL like CI is supposed to do. But it's not doing it. My URL is domain.com/lasers/en/acme.
My class Lasers is:
class Lasers extends CI_Controller {
function __construct()
{
parent::__construct();
$this->load->model('products_model');
$this->load->model('common_model');
$this->load->model('select_country_model');
$this->load->model('markets_materials_model');
}
function index($lang = NULL, $laser = NULL)
{
$query = $this->products_model->get_product_content($laser, $lang);
}
The model is loaded in the constructor. The $lang I need is "en" and the $laser I need is "acme". So why isn't this working? The arguments in the function are in the correct order, so I can't see what's wrong.
By default you cant pass arguments to the index method of a controller
if you go to domain.com/lasers/en/acme it is looking in the lasers controller for a method called en.. (which doesn't exist) and trying to pass a single parameter of acme to it
Theres a few solutions, probly the easiest is to use a different method (not index) then use routes to make the URLs work.
add something like this to your config/routes.php
$route['^lasers/(:any)/(:any)'] = "lasers/get_products/$1/$2";
Then use a method like this instead of index:
function get_products($lang = NULL, $laser = NULL) {
$query = $this->products_model->get_product_content($laser, $lang);
}
.. OR you could use _remap to override the default behaviour
Does it work if you write "domain.com/lasers/index/en/acme"?
If you write domain.com/lasers/en/acme, it will look for the "En" function, $lang being "acme", and $laser remaining NULL.
