using the media playback sample for windows store apps 8.1 and visual studio 2013:
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/basic-media-playback-003619be
i tried opening any audio or video file but every time the application crashes with a file not found exception at line:
Scenario1MediaElement.SetSource(stream, file.ContentType);
and when i debugging i always find file.ContentType returning an empty string .
any one knows what's going on?!
Updating the latest version of windows 8.1 solved this issue on my side!
but the video will run only on the local machine .
to get required updates straight forward, download the latest version of media player from official Microsoft website.

So i have a new set up of windows 10 Home Edition on my PC and installed VS 2017 Community Edition. When i build and run the app it runes absolutely fine. But if i use the graphics debugger i get the app open and i print screen to snapshot a frame. The window opens and it shows the following
If i choose to open that frame then i get the following error - An error occurred. Playback of your application may be incomplete(HRESULT = 0x80004002) "No such interface supported"
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be as it worked fine on my laptop and for the record. Opening a brand new Directx12 app project with the spinning cube also does this.
Please have a look for the question at here. I suppose you are using Windows version 1809 or higher.
Graphics Debugging Tool does no longer support DirectX12 after 1809. Instead, you should use the PIX for Windows in future.
I am facing a strange issue with Windows Phone Emulators for last a few days. When I try to run any windows phone application from Visual Studio 2013/2012, it initially starts the emulator and then stops with an error displayed in the error window inside visual studio:
Error : DEP6100 : The following unexpected error occurred during boostrapping stage 'Connecting to the device':
SmartDeviceException - App deployment failed. Please try again.
I have been trying many solutions in order to fix this issue but nothing helped. At last I re-installed the whole windows 8.1 and then visual studio 2013. Then I created a windows phone 8 application and run it smoothly in windows phone emulator.
Then I installed all windows updates including windows 8.1 update 1. After that I installed the visual studio 2013 update 2. Now if I run any new/existing windows phone 8/8.1 project I get the same error again. Seems like there is something wrong with windows 8.1 updates or visual studio 2013 update 2.
Any help?
Open network and sharing center
Change adapter settings
Check if vEthernet [Windows phone emulator internal switch is enabled)
Try deploying it to the emulator now
If above does not work
Delete the virtual switch(s) if any and do a deployment
If it still does not work, connect to the internet via a LAN
Keep you’r wifi on
do a deployment to the emulator
Most cases above method worked !
I had the same error when i tried switching the target OS version of my app from Windows Phone 8 to 8.1. With 8.1 you get a new manifest file and if, for app or publisher identification string, you have different values in one manifest file than in the other, it will output that exact error when trying to start the app in the emulator. However after searching the web back when i had that error, this error seems to have quite a bunch of possible sources, this being only one among many other, but be sure to check it.
Uninstalling the symantec antivirus fixed my issue.
I'm trying to develop an app for Windows Phone using Apache Cordova (PhoneGap). I've installed the Windows Phone SDK from Microsoft's web site (SDK 7.1 for Windows Vista+); the SDK comes with Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone. I'm also using Windows 7 Professional, 64bit.
I've imported the PhoneGap template perfectly, should be no issues here. When I try to emulate my app on the "Windows Phone Emulator", I get the following errors:
I've tried reinstalling Visual Basic/the SDK, PhoneGap countless time (plus tried different versions), I've tried everything posted previously on Stackoverflow and also from other web sites.
My JS files are being detected normally via Windows Explorer, so I don't think there is a wrong file association. I've also attempted to insert additional code, or modify code in the .csproj file and the BuildManifestProcessor.js; but no luck either.
Are there any suggestions, please?
I've found the definite solution, after trying many solutions; such as using regsvr32 attempting to fix JScript and VBScript association. Even if your associations are working perfectly, you can still receive the above error.
To solve this problem, run this tool (by Microsoft): http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic/
It will solve your problem. I understand this is for Windows Media Player, but it will also fix any JS or VB.NET problems too.
It will also fix Windows Media Player problems too, such as "server execution failed"; which is caused due to JS/VB.NET too.
I am now able to begin development for Windows Phone; to be honest, I'm excited.
All the best.
I've been working with the Windows Phone SDK 7.0 for a long time on my computer. Now I installed the SDK 7.1 (RC) and for some reason I can't start the emulator. I'm getting this error:
Error: The saved-state file C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\XDE{4321-43-432-432-432343234}.dess is corrupt. Please delete the corrupted saved state file and then retry.
I tried suggestions from this article. But they didn't help. Also I tried reinstalling Windows Phone SDK.
Any thoughts how to fix it?
What I'd try:
Open a Windows Explorer window with the file shown.
Delete the file.
Launch the emulator.
Wait for the error message. If there is no error message and the emulator is working, congratulations!
Refresh the Windows Explorer window.
Is the appropriate .dess file restored into the folder? If so, then the file that is restoring the .dess file is corrupt. Reinstall the SDK until it works.
If this doesn't work, do this:
Figure out how your computer is different from the average developer's computer. Did you install some funky customization software? Did you mess up your registry?
Eliminate the differences that you can eliminate - e.g. undo any changes to the WP7 related area of your registry, find and eliminate any viruses {duh!}, kill any nonnecessary background apps like volume managers or printer software, and redownload the installer for the SDK {sometimes the installers are corrupt.}
Install it as a different user. This is the simple equivalent of some of the above steps.
Remember:
The SDK is still RC, so there may be some bugs.
After installing the SDK for the 500th time, it may be time to try something different.
Always install the x64 version on an x64 PC and the x86 version on an x86 PC.
I've been working with the Windows Phone SDK 7.0 for a long time on my computer. Now I installed the SDK 7.1 (beta) and for some reason I can't start the emulator. I'm getting this error:
The program can't start because MFPlat.DLL is missing from your
computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
I don't have that dll on my system, but I grabed it from another computer and put it in System32 and in the emulator directory, but still no luck. I tried reinstalling the SDK twice with no luck either.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
OK, I'll suggest first of all you need that files. In my system I found mfplat.dll in four different places. Also I found mfplat.dll.mui file (also in four different locations), which maybe also you need.
Here is links for that files (from my public dropbox folder). I make archives with different extensions.
There is a txt file with path in it in each folder, try copy to the same folder and give feedback.
7z archive
RAR archive
ZIP archive
I had the same issue. I tried this solution despite the possible dangers and it still did not work for me. The reason is that the dlls posted by Arterius are for the 64 bit version of Windows. I am on a 32 bit Win 7 OS.
I tried installing the WP7 SDK on another PC using the same installer and surprisingly, it worked perfectly. The only difference between these two machines was that on my work laptop(where I had the issue), The version of the OS was Windows 7N(This version does not have media player bundled). And on my other computer(where the installer worked perfectly), the version was one which had Windows media player installed. I found the media update to get Windows media player installed, downloaded and installed it and then restarted and tried the emulator. Not Surprisingly, it worked perfectly.
