mvn clean tomcat:run command - maven

When I run "mvn clean tomcat:run" (without specifying any tomcat version) command from command prompt for running my web application, it download tomcat 6.0.29 version dependency as shown below:

So my query is how does it decide to download particular this tomcat version dependency.

Probably the default settings of the tomcat plugin you run.
Try running mvn tomcat:help -Ddetails to see what version of the plugin you use, and how it can be configured.
I think it is an earlier version of the plugin, and you can now use explicit versions, such as
mvn org.apache.tomcat.maven:tomcat6-maven-plugin:2.0:run
mvn org.apache.tomcat.maven:tomcat7-maven-plugin:2.0:run
(or the shorter form)

Seems, you are running the tomcat-maven-plugin from codehaus, whihc has tomcat 6.0.29 built-in. (Seems there was no activity since 2010.)
You should try the tomcat7 plugin from apache.

In command line for maven use --debug option to get explanation of build process. For our case output looks like:

Actually to explain why we've got tomcat v1.1 without specifying anything about tomcat, remember that maven build process has been customized with build plugins. And each build plugins has own build plugins. So it is enough to examine effective pom file to get clear understanding that almost empty initial pom.xml has quite big effective pom.xml.
To overcome issue just use explicit version of the tomcat plugin.

I did download the project from github without any problem, i provided th maven commands mvn clean install and the project build successfully but when it comes to run the tests i get the following error. Any hints? I'am providing my pom.xml file, i tried all the suggestions but nothing.
Does your pom.xml contains the plugin surefire tag ? If thats missing then maven wont download this plugin at runtime and hence the error. Also if its there but maven cant download then may be you have to allow internet connectivity or copy the jars manually inside the .m2 directory on the Jenkins/Node server machine.

TypeNotPresentExceptionProxy error at integration-test with maven-failsafe-plugin spring-boot 1.4

I'm getting ArrayStoreException: TypeNotPresentExceptionProxy when running integration-test with maven-failsafe-plugin and spring-boot 1.4.
You can see this error if you run joinfaces-example with
mvn -Pattach-integration-test clean install
I realized that the error does not occur if I change spring-boot-maven-plugin to run at pre-integration-test phase instead of package one.
More, this error started when I upgraded spring boot to 1.4. No error occurs if I change jsf-spring-boot-parent version to 2.0.0 which uses spring boot 1.3 version.
I actually found the answer in Spring Boot 1.4 release notes, short answer is that maven-failsafe-plugin is not compatible with Spring Boot 1.4's new executable layout. Full explanation below :
As of Failsafe 2.19, target/classes is no longer on the classpath and
the project’s built jar is used instead. The plugin won’t be able to
find your classes due to the change in the executable jar layout.
There are two ways to work around this issue:
Downgrade to 2.18.1 so that you use target/classes instead
Configure the spring-boot-maven-plugin to use a classifier for the
repackage goal. That way, the original jar will be available and used
by the plugin. For example :

This worked better for me, because when I used the "exec" solution, Spring failed to find my configuration files when starting the container. Which could probably be fixed by adding some further configuration parameters, I suppose, but this solution works "out of the box" for me.

Make maven run one task before another when running a single plugin

I've got a project set up using the Maven Cargo plugin to launch Tomcat with my webapp deployed in it, along with some other webapps that are needed for support. This works great. Unfortunately, when I run "mvn cargo:run" it doesn't do a build first, but instead just actually starts Tomcat running the code the last time I did do a build.
Previously I used the tomcat7 plugin instead, and that did do a build first and always ran the current version of the source code. As such, I could change my code and run "mvn tomcat7:run" and know that the code changes had been built and were running.
I can't find any way with the Cargo plugin to make it do this, but is there some way with Maven to make it at least run the Package phase when I run a specific plugin so that it will build the WAR file correctly first?
The Tomcat plugin automatically invokes the compile phase prior to executing itself. The Cargo plugin won't do that. In order to compile your code before executing the plugin, you need to run
mvn clean compile cargo:run
If you want to start and stop the container automatically before and after your integration tests, you can also bind cargo:start and cargo:stop to Maven's lifecycle phases. See Automatically executing and stopping the container when running mvn install for details.
Here is a full example how to integrate the start via Cargo in the usual build. https://github.com/khmarbaise/maui/tree/master/src/main/resources/it-example-container. You can start the integration tests via mvn -Prun-its clean verify which might be better
A completely different approach would be to use the exec-maven-plugin to execute multiple goals with one command:

Deploying Maven project to JBoss AS7 (standalone)

I am new to JBOSS AS7, and am strictly using MAVEN 3 via command line. I would like to deploy the *.war of my project to JBOSS AS7 without ECLIPSE. I have spent couple of days Googling and trying out difference approaches. I am able to deploy the *.war to Tomcat. I would highly appreciate any help on this. So far this is what I have done:
I have entered the server info(Jboss) to C:\maven\conf\settings.xml
I have included the plugin to the POM
I think I may be declaring the path to JBoss AS7 within my JBOSS plugin wrong.
This is how I am including the plugin in the POM file:

When deploying to your localhost (which is the default value) you don't need to define the <url> in the <configuration>, as well as the <server> and <path> elements (besides: I haven't seen a folder named wep-app in AS7).
We run a project where this works even without touching the settings.xml.
So when you have checked this, post what exactly goes wrong, what is the concrete failure message and what is the maven command you use (mvn jboss-as:deploy).

maven cargo plugin with tomcat6

I'm trying to setup maven cargo plugin. I have the following requirements:
tomcat 6
custom server.xml
custom context.xml
log4j jar deployed to tomcat lib
install tomcat on the machine if it's not there already
tie to maven's install lifecycle phase to deploy a war and restart the container
make the deployed war be ROOT.war
I've followed the following: http://www.java-tutorial.ch/maven/maven-tomcat-deployment-using-cargo. This isn't the complete feature set I want, and even it doesn't work entirely. This is what I get:
Can't load log handler "4host-manager.org.apache.juli.FileHandler"
[INFO] [talledLocalContainer] java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: 4host-manager.org.apache.juli.FileHandler
And then when mvn install returns I do ps -ef and there's no tomcat process.
Also it copies the war to ROOT.war but the old ROOT/ directory is not replaced so the new ROOT.war doesn't actually get deployed.
For the "install tomcat if not already there" requirement, it seems like this should be absolutely straightforward, yet when I provide

Link you followed has given demo for cargo 1.0.6. Recent version available is 1.1.1 so I suggest you to use recent and there is certain changes in child tags

Try to use maven archetype to create cargo sample project following post http://cargo.codehaus.org/Maven2+Archetypes. I suggest you to user "Single Webapp Module Archetype"
After setting up maven project, You can install tomcat 6 running mvn cargo:install -P tomcat6x command.
