I'm trying to create solution specific settings using the Web Essentials VS extension. On the features page for Web Essentials it states:
To enable solution settings, right-click any item in Solution Explorer
and click "Create solution settings".
I can't find that option anywhere. I'm using VS 2013 Update 2 and Web Essentials 2013 for Update 2.
What am I missing? Where should I be looking to find the option to create solution specific settings?
You can find it in the menubar, not in the contextual menu.

This is very similar to the question here: How to add the view in browser option back into Visual Studio 2017 context menu?
However, I am using the Community Edition of Visual Studio 2017. I've installed the ASP.NET and .NET core workloads, but if I open up a folder rather than a proper solution, when I right-click a regular .html file there is no option to 'view in browser'.
I've tried following the accepted answer on the above question and it has not fixed the issue. If I create a web application with .cshtml files, then I can right-click and choose 'view in browser'.
Previously, with Visual Studio Community 2015, you could install the basic product without any additional extensions or add-ons, and with a website opened as a folder in the Solution Explorer (I.E. not a VS project or solution) you could right-click an HTML file, choose 'View in browser', and the page would be opened up in the default browser to a localhost URL, running in IISExpress. No special configuration or setup required.
Here is a good answer to this question written by Jon L. From that:
Click on Tools > Customize
Select the "Commands" tab
Highlight the "Context menu" option
In the dropdown select "Project and Solution Context Menus | Project"
Click "Add Command"
Select the "File" category
In the Commands list, select "View in Browser" and press OK.
Actually, I got it - with VS2017 there is a new option 'open folder'. To be able to 'view in browser' you need to ensure you don't use this option, and 'open website' instead, then you can 'view in browser' with regular HTML files.
I want ti change the Security Settings in visual studio 2010 .
but in my project-> properties -> security tab missing.
I answered this here:
Why am i not seeing the security tab in my Office Solution properties?
and here is my answer re-posted:
I had the same issue and the solution was super annoying to figure
out. Someone on another website mentioned that the Security tab is
only relevant for certain types of ClickOnce applications so I started
playing around with various options and figured it out.
In the Application tab, for Application Type, select Windows Forms Application from the drop-down menu (other drop-down options might also work but haven't tried them)
Save everything: In the main menu bar of Visual Studio, click File > Save All.
Close your project Properties window (i.e. the one with the Application tab that we were just modifying)
Open your project Properties window again: in your Solution Explorer, select your project, go to the main menu bar, click
Project, click Properties.
Voila! It should be there. :)
I'm running Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone. My problem is I'm not getting the solution configurations drop down list.I tried a lot but I'm not getting it.
Click the Tools menu, click Settings, and then click Expert Settings.
The Solution Configuration list box appears in the Standard toolbar. Click Debug or Release.
If still not visible, check this
I need to work with the Property Sheet of a project. I followed instruction on msdn to try to find Property Manager under View, but I do not see Property Manager as a menu option under Tool. I only saw Property Pages and Properties Window. I tried both options but they do not seem to be where I can create a property sheet. My Visual Studio version is as follows: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, Version 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.0.30319 SP1Rel. Can anyone please give a pointer? Thanks.
I finally found mine under View->Other Windows, near the bottom.
Try resetting your View menu, Property Manager should indeed be there.
Go to Tools -> Customize.
In the popup window, select the Commands tab.
Select the Menu bar: button, and in the dropdown menu select View
Click Reset All and confirm.
This should restore Property Manager to your View menu.
To see the Property Manager you need to have Expert Settings enabled. You can find this option in:
Tools -> Settings
It is under View --> Other Windows --> Properties Manager. It works.
This is how I restored the Property Manager menu item in Visual Studio 2013:
Select Tools\Customize
Select the Commands Tab and Menu Bar
Under the dropdown beside Menu Bar, select "View | Other Windows" (or wherever you'd like to put it)
Click "Add Command..." and select the View category
Find and select Property Manager from Commands and click OK
In my case it was just in the VIEW toolbar - almost in the bottom. Running VS2013 Pro update 3
View > Property Manager or View > Other Windows > Property Manager, please try this
None of the above answers worked for me. What worked for me is:
Tools -> Import and Export Settings -> Reset all settings -> ... -> Visual C++ Development Settings
Despite I selected Visual C# settings at first use, for some reason, VC++ settings were ON, causing the visual components property window to not show up while pressing F4.
Selecting Visual C# settings ( in Tools | Import and export settings... | Reset All ) made it work.
Property Manager is a moot utility now. Since the property sheet is defined for each project, it can be edited by right clicking on the project and selecting properties. If you need to edit multiple projects once, just select all the projects you want to effect a change and do the right clicking trick.
This brings up the same property pages as it would from Property Manager.
Since none of the given answers worked for me here are my two cents.
Like any well hidden menu in Visual Studio this one can be found by opening Tools -> Options... -> Environment -> Keyboard and searching for "View.PropertyManager". There you can give it a global shortcut. While this only helps if you know the name of the menu or command you are looking for it's much faster go through a bunch of guesses this way than by randomly browsing menus.
When you hit F5, the browser windows pops up, how do you set which browser the debugger users in Visual Studio 2008?
Update 1
I have looked for the 'Browse with' option and not found it.
Visual Studio opens the default browser instead of Internet Explorer
Update 2
If you are already debugging you dont have the 'Browse with' option.
Stop debugging and then its there!
Update 3
The accepted answer below is also relevant to changing the default browser to debug with in Visual Studio 2010.
(In the Project Solution window) Right click a page (.aspx, or on a folder)
Select Browse With...
Choose your browser
Click Set as Default
Click Browse
ASP.NET projects:
Right click a webpage (.aspx, or on a folder)
Select Browse With...
Choose your browser
Click Set as Default
Click Browse
ASP.NET MVC 1 projects:
Right click Default.aspx, then follow steps above.
ASP.NET MVC 2 projects:
As there is no Default.aspx, you need to create a Web Form (right-click project > Add > New Item) and follow the steps above.
If you use ASP-NET MVC, you need to right-click on Default.ASPX which will have a Browse With menu.
To permanently make Visual Studio open a project in IE without changing the default browser you can do the following:
Project Properties -> Web -> Start Action
Start external program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Command line arguments: Enter the url of the path to your start page ie http:\localhost\myproject\default.aspx
This won't allow you to debug client side script in Visual Studio though.
If you are using MVC 2 you do not need to create another project, just add component -> webform to the project then:
* Right click the webform
* Select Browse With...
* Choose your browser
* Click Set as Default
* Delete the webform
If you use MVC, you don't have this menu (no "Browse With..." menu)
Create first a normal ASP.NET web site.
I have passed this problem in VS2012. When I can't find "Browse with.." on the right-click of the project, I found it on File Menu -> Browse with. If it doesn't appear, first you have to click on menu bar, then try open file menu again. If it still doesn't appear, you can just go to Quick Launch on the top right of menu bar then type it "Browse with".
In VS 2010 just make the browser as your default broswer in which you want to run your application and there is no need to set anything in visual studio. I did it for google chrome and its working for me. I just made google chrome as my default browser and its working fine. I am almost sure that this should work in VS 2008 also.
First click show all files. Then in the bin folder choose any xml file and then right click and by selecting 'browse with' select your desired browser.
I find that the Browse With.. menu item only appears in Visual Studio 2010 when I Run as administrator. And in that case it is available even while in debug mode.
An easier way to do this is simply by selecting the arrow next to the Start Debugging:
Then in the Drop Down goto Web Browser and select the browser you would like to debug the site with, you can also select Browse with... to set the default as explained in other answers.
