I'm running Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone. My problem is I'm not getting the solution configurations drop down list.I tried a lot but I'm not getting it.
Click the Tools menu, click Settings, and then click Expert Settings.
The Solution Configuration list box appears in the Standard toolbar. Click Debug or Release.
If still not visible, check this

I have a .NET Core 3 (not ASP) project in Visual Studio 2019 that has two different launch profiles:
But whenever I launch my project, it always uses the first profile, even if I have the second profile selected in my project settings. How do I tell Visual Studio to actually use the other launch profile?
EDIT: This is what my toolbar looks like:
I have no dropdown to select a launch configuration. I found the "Start Debug Target" command and can add that to my toolbar, but it doesn't have a dropdown either, it looks just like the regular start button.
In projects you can configure the profile, not select it.
In order to select a profile you should choose it from dropdown list next to start button:
EDIT
On my VS the button is called Debug Target and is placed under Standard section in toolbar.
However, there's something fishy about this button in visual studio. When I removed button from visual studio I couldn't find it among other commands to readd it. After some googling I even found out there were problems with this in past.
https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/323626/if-you-remove-debug-target-from-toolbar-you-can-ne.html
Ewentually I found out two ways to bring it back.
Reset the standard toolbar
Add it from Add or remove buttons section next to standard toolbar
I'm using Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 Edition (Update 3), with Xamarin 4.2 installed.
I have the emulators downloaded via Xamarin Android Player, however I don't have an option to select the emulators from Visual Studio (Refer attached image).
VS Select Emulator
There is no emulator dropdown next to debug button in toolbar, and VS always defaults to the first emulator, and doesn't let me choose one, even if there are multiple emulators available in XAP.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
After trying to figure out the problem for days, I was finally able to identify the real cause of the issue. I had to enable Standard toolbar in VS (Right-click on Toolbar, and select Standard. Refer Screenshot) to finally have the ability to select emulators.
I was under the assumption that the emulator list appears in Debug toolbar, and did not try checking the toolbar menu earlier.
Thanks for all the replies, and hope this helps someone else facing this issue.
This would appear to be this bug:
https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44487
If so, the issue occurs when selecting the startup project with the drop down list in the tool bar. Instead try selecting the start up project by right-clicking on the project on the Solution Explorer and choose "Set as startup project"
It seems you didn't select the startup project. In Solution Explorer right click on your Android project and choose "Set as StartUp Project". Then default emulator options should be visible and you can change it via drop down menu.
Anyway I recomend you to use Visual Studio emulator
Am using VisualStudio 2013, update2. I am facing the below issue when I opened a project in VisualStudio today, I noticed on right clicking a project in the SolutionExplorer the context menu have a lot of options that even have scrolling now. Now I have to scroll down everytime to build or clean a project.
Earlier it was like a short menu like below.
I have not changed any settings but don't know why am facing this issue. I tried to customize the context menu command and chose (Project and solution context menus | Project) from the drop down, but that didn't worked out as it is automatically reset to tfs on clicking the close button. Does any one have idea about how to rectify this?
Note: The context menu has changed only for the projects inside the solution. On right clicking the solution name in solution explorer, I am still getting the same old menu.
From looking at your context menu screenshot, it looks like you have some extensions installed that have introduced these commands. Try disabling some or all of them in Tools > Extensions and Updates Manager to see which ones belong to which extension. There unfortunately isn't a way right now to customize this context menu.
Thanks,

I use. VS 2013 Express
When debugging, I need to stop automatically on exceptions.
try to follow this.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d14azbfh.aspx#AddExceptionsCommand
It says I need to add Exceptions command to the Debug menu
On the Tools menu, click Customize.
The Customize dialog box appears.
Click the Commands tab and, in the Menu bar list, click Debug.
Click Add Command.
In Categories in the Add Command dialog box, click Debug.
In Commands, click Exceptions and then click OK.
But in stage 6, in Commands there is no Exeptions
Also I tried to remove Enable just my code, And it didn't work.
Just a FYI ---
Im am using VS Express 2010 (VB) and didn't see the debug exceptions.
Based on the screen shot above I just pushed CRLT-ALT-E and it opened.. (!)
Its a bit unclear to me, if VB 2010 Express has this option or not, or how to unhide it, but the key click combo opened it.
I was then able to turn off the option I needed
In my case the "PInvokeStackImbalance"

Another user has reported the missing 'exceptions' on the 'debug' menu to Microsoft and actually got an acknowlegement from Microsoft (though not from the product team and not confirmation that it is a bug).
https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/882780/exceptions-comman-missing-in-vs-2013-express-for-web
For what it's worth, you can add your vote to this report at that site; I'm experiencing this problem and I have done so too.
Here's a potential work-around: the 'exceptions' is present in the Visual Studio Express for Desktop. And you can install that edition side-by-side with Web edition. If you can figure out a way to invoke your project executable from the debugger in the Desktop edition, you'd have control over exceptions there.
The exceptions menu isn't shown in Visual Studio Web Developer Express. It is only shown in Visual C# Express.
You can however break on all exceptions. You can try to turn off "Just My Code" debugging, which will catch exceptions thrown in CLR code and linked libraries.
To do this, open Tools -> Options -> Debugging -> General, and uncheck "Just My Code" (or Enable Just My Code).
if it doesn't work try
Debug -> Exceptions -> Common Language Runtime Exceptions - check "when thrown"
if you don't see exceptions try to change your settings following this guide
Refer here for documentation.
update
if it still not working try this
Tools menu >> Import and Export Settings >> Reset all settings. Then choose C# Development Environment.
Many of the customization and integration features for Visual Studio's IDE are not available in the free Express editions, but you should be able to get to the Exceptions menu easily enough without using them.
Press F5 to start debugging, then select Debug / Exceptions... Turn on the check box for "C++ Exceptions" "Thrown". Hit "OK"
Hi I have been working with visual studio 2010 ultimate all day developing an asp.net webforms application.
I just realized that on the properties for controls window the button for events is missing , the one that looks like a thunderbolt.
An hour ago that button was there and now somehow it has disapeared and I can't figure out how to make it visible again.
I have tryed reseting the visual studio settings and reseting the computer but nothing worked
How can I get the button back?
I had the same problem. This helped me.
1.Restart visual studio 2010.
2.Click and select a control in markup page(.aspx)(like
3.After selecting , Click "View" in menu and select "Property window".
Check the property box, Thunderbolt ll be available. It just happened for me!
If the above solution not working go on with this!
1.Select design view in markup(.aspx)
2.Select any individual control like a button or label..
3.Now, you will be able to see a ">" button on the right side? Click it.
4.Remember to select only one control./.now check your property window! Whoohoo..
Actually while the solution above works, it puts you through more steps than you need. You can resolve this famous disappearing thunderbolt by simply clicking on Design view, and then clicking back on Source view, then clicking again to select the control in source view.
The Thunderbolt icon and events for the control will magically reappear.
You do not need to restart Visual Studio, and you do not need to select anything while in Design view.
And now, for my RANT about this annoying bug:
Even though this is easy to resolve, it is a MAJOR inconvenience to developers in my opinion, because we have to do this silly workaround all the freaking time.
This is in fact a BUG in Visual Studio. It has existed since at least Visual Studio 2010 (many users have reported it here and in MS forums across this and all later versions of VS). I have confirmed that this bug still exists in the latest build of Visual Studio 2022. So clearly MS has no plans to fix it.
