I've encountered strange issue. My app running on simulator shows only English/Emoji layout for UITextField.
BUT! The spotlight shows English/Russian/Emoji, and it's correct.
I use Xcode 6.1 and iPhone 4s iOS 8 simulator.
What's wrong?
Dupe of iOS8.1 Simulator always uses US keyboard layout despite german hardware keyboard
As mentioned there, this is a known issue and is mentioned in the Xcode 6.1 release notes.

I have a 2019 16-inch Macbook Pro with an i7. My iOS simulator is showing terrible behavior on Xcode 12 and 13. The rendering happens only partially. I start typing but only top part of the TextField updates. When I pull my modally presented controllers up and down, it leaves glitches and artifacts in the render whenever I release the mouse pointer from the window. Only when I drag and click something in the simulator, only then the screen updates properly.
I have tried resetting the simulator and the machine, and different versions of Xcode AND or simulator iOS and nothing helps. I also have not found too specific mentions of this issue online.
This is a known issue that was fixed in Xcode 13. It primarily affects the iPhone mini so you can workaround it by using a different simulator.
Today I downloaded the release of Xcode 12.3, and I went running the iOS 14.3 simulators and it seems like there is a graphic glitch that all translucent views are yellow, dock included.
I redownloaded iOS 14.2 and those seem fine. It just seems really odd. I've submitted feedback, but I was curious if anyone else has seen this?
I'm on macOS v10.15.7 (Catalina) and am curious of if it's just Catalina or also macOS v11 (Big Sur).
Xcode 12.4 RC has announced fix.
iOS simulated devices no longer display an incorrect yellow tint in translucent UI elements. Certain GPUs may continue to display the tint with some tvOS simulators. (71203015)
I think it is a bug related to the discrete GPU.
In addition, this bug causes the background of the on-screen keyboard to be almost RGB(0,0,0). Experienced on MBP 2017 with Catalina.
Workaround I - Using integrated GPU
In the simulator, set menu File → GPU Selection → Prefer Integrated GPU to work around this bug.
Restart the simulator.
This was tested on a MacBook Pro with Catalina and Big Sur. As comments suggest that it won't work on iMac.
Workaround II - Reduce transparency
In the simulated device (e.g. iPhone), Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → turn on Reduce Transparency.
Notice that it can only reduce the previous 'solid' yellow to 'fairly light'.
I find this workaround, as the discrete GPU can be used, is more suitable for testing the UI logic than the previous solution.
This was tested on a MacBook Pro with Catalina. Might work on iMac.
Are you using a MacBook Pro? I had the same bug.
I solved in the following ways.
Step 1: Unplug all cables, including the charging cable
Step 2: Restart the iOS simulator
Best way around it (what I've done), is to download the 14.2 Simulator pack from within Xcode.
Open Xcode->Preferences
Tap Components
Tap the 14.2 Simulator pack and Xcode is going to start installing it.
It's a workaround till they fix that miserable error.
It is Xcode 12.3 bug! you can see that sometimes in the code interface builder too:
It is not critical but If you really care about it, download and use the previous Xcode from here
Nothe that you can't build for iOS 14.3 if you choose to use Xcode 12.2.
More description
Xcode always have unknown issues at the release point. Some of them are critical like this with 54K views! and some are not like this issue with about 5K views in only 13 days.
My suggestion is to always have 2 Xcodes at the same time until you are sure about Xcode bugs!
Happened to me as well, while I was charging my MacBook Pro 2016. I closed my Xcode, disconnected my charger from the Macbook and run it again. The problem was fixed.
One thing to point out/confirm: Seems the issue is limited to the simulator. The issue does not persist when sideloading the project to iPhone.
Can't see any iOS 9.0 simulators. In previous Xcode 7 beta 3 all was OK.
Can't install iOS 8.3 simulator.
Also I can't add any simulator from 'Organizer'. By pressing "Create" nothing happened.
Each time when I'm trying to download iOS simulator I see next thing:
One possible issue is that there may be old leftover simulators installed, which are not compatible with the new XCode, and their presence causes the whole Simulator to fail. To get rid of them, delete the simulators in /Library/Developer/CoreSimulator/Profiles/Runtimes (for me there was an iOS 7 simulator there which was the issue). Relaunch XCode after this.
Then try to run the simulator from XCode->Open Developer Tool->Simulator. Assuming this succeeds, verify that you have the simulators under the iOS Simulator menu Hardware->Device->Manage Devices… – if not, you should be able to click the + in the bottom bar to add yourself some iOS 9 simulators. Relaunch XCode again and they should show up in the menu.
In my case was with Xcode 8.2, what it worked to me was changing Deployment Version:
After setting another different than 10.0 then appeared back all simulators again.
Have you tried going to Xcode > preferences > downloads and trying to re-download the simulators you want?
For me it was only showing one simulator,
and when I go to Xcode > Preferences I can see the simulator is already downloaded but it is not showing up in the list,
if you're facing something similar. This is how you should add required simulator,
From the Xcode menu, open Windows > Devices, shown in the image below
you should see this screen,
notice there is only one simulator (ref: first image)
Now to add required simulator, you should click on the + (in the left corner)
You should see this,
You can choose the simulator from the list, In my case it is iPhone 6s Plus.
In Xcode you can see additional simulator iPhone 6s Plus,
I was also not able to see simulators.Reason is,I have not restarted system after upgrading Xcode.I restarted & simulator started displaying as routine.
There is a bug in the latest El Capitan beta which causes a process to crash when dlopen() fails to mmap() a dynamic library. Such mmap() failures can occur due to code signature verification failures.
These mmap() failures will occur if older iOS Simulator runtimes are present on disk (ie: installed from Xcode 6.x), and that is the reason why Xcode 7 beta release notes have indicated that earlier runtimes are not working in Xcode 7. The iOS 8.x Simulator runtimes were updated in newer downloads, but if the older versions are present on disk, they will cause the mmap() failure, which in the latest El Capitan beta, unfortunately results in the CoreSimulatorService repeatedly crashing which in turn results in no simulators being available.
If simulators are suddenly disappeared:
Just consider decreasing Deployment target to a minor version below current version in Project > Build Settings > Deployment Info > Deployment Target
P.S. Usually you see a place holder text showing the selected version (in gray) in the box denoted above. If for example the gray text says 9.3, then decrease it to 9.2.
Look at seancook's response in the middle of this page... it seems to have fixed this issue for several people.
https://forums.developer.apple.com/thread/11706
Edit:
This can also be fixed by booting into recovery mode (CMD - R) and reinstalling El Capitan.
Go to Windows. Select Devices. Select '+' from left bottom and add all simulators one by one.
I had changed the name of my Project from Finder. I clicked on the old project name (between the Play Button and and the selector for the desired Simulator or Device), selected edit schemes, selected the Targets Tab, and realised that the old scheme was missing so I just added my new Project name by clicking on the plus button and the simulator list reappeared.
So I recently had my app rejected by Apple. This is what they said:
2.1: Apps that crash will be rejected
----- 2.1 -----
We found that your app crashed on iPad running iOS 8 and iPhone 5s running iOS 8, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
Your app crashed when we:
tapped on various menu items
If you have difficulty reproducing this issue, please try testing the workflow as described in Testing Workflow with Xcode's Archive feature.
I found it confusing why the app was only crashing on certain devices, especially the iPhone 5s. Since I don't personally own a 5s, I have been using the simulator and cannot recreate the crash. On the iPad retina simulator the app crashes when I press menu buttons and Xcode tells me the offending line is in the viewdidappear method of the view being segued FROM:
if( adBanner != nil )
{
adBanner.removeFromSuperview()
adBanner.delegate = nil
adBanner = nil
}
My questions are: How can I recreate these crashes on the iPhone 5s? How can I possibly fix this bug on the iPad or do I even need to? I assumed you could submit an app optimized to run on only certain iOS devices and that was determined by which devices you submitted screenshots for. Do I need this app to work for iPad or is there a way to just not publish it for iPad?
Mine was not also for ipad, but Apple still tested for that anyway.
I had the same issue. I was reproducing the issue on my ipad 2 when the project options is set to "link all assemblies" on my Xamarin project settings. The issue was not reproduced and the app on my ipad was working fine when I change options to only "link SDK assemblies only." This has been the reason with another app I published.
I'm going to try republishing the app again with that change in setting and hope for the best.
How can I recreate these crashes on the iPhone 5s
An iPhone 5c might reproduce the issue, but your best bet is to use an iPhone 5s. The simulator cannot possibly match behavior of the device when it comes to timing and memory characteristics.
You might be able to use guard malloc or NSZombies to find some issues related to memory mismanagement, so I suggest you try that out in the sim or on devices you own.
Do I need this app to work for iPad or is there a way to just not
publish it for iPad?
You can build an iPhone-only app that will be run in compatibility mode on an iPad, but there's no way to prevent someone from running your iPhone app on an iPad.
A few days back I upgraded to Xcode 4.3.2 by downloading from the developer's portal and running the installation files. Since then, I am able to test apps on my devices and am also able to test them on the iOS simulator for iPhone without issues. However, the iPad simulator is not working well. A screenshot is attached.
The home button doesn't appear.
The status bar doesn't appear.
The simulator appears like a window with minimize and maximize icons (only the maximize icon is enabled) and also has a title with the version no.
Can anyone please advise, a screenshot of the simulator is present at the below location.

The Skins are missing from the iPad simulator, a solution is using the keyboard shortcuts, Cmd+Shift+H for Home, Cmd+1 / 2 / 3 to resize the window to fit on your screen to avoid scrollbars and such.
