I'm using VS2013 to development and maintain a couple of SP2013 projects. However, I think somehow I managed to corrupt one of the projects.
When I go to the "Package.package" designer, I see only (mapped SP) folders in there (it should also include the feature of the project). When I double-click, thus remove, one of these and try to re-add it, I get the following error msg
http://i.imgur.com/nC8RdOq.png
Same goes when I try to add the feature to the package
What's also strange is that if I go into the Feature designer, I cannot add any items. VS gives a similar type of err msg:

Few more details:
the projects were SP2010 projects and I successfully converted these to SP2013 some time ago.
using Visual Studio Premium 2013, Update 3, running as an administrator.
tried removing the feature and re-adding it; did not help.
tried running VS in safe mode, resetting the user settings via the command line devenv; did not help.
tried closing the designer, VS, rebooting; did not help.
i am able to add/remove items to the package/feature in other projects so I suspect it not to be a VS2013 bug
I just had the same Issue when adding items to feature or including features in package. I solved it by updating Visual Studio 2013 Developer Tools.
After updating to: Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013 - August 2015 update

First of all, I am trying to open a support request with Microsoft about this issue, but their support reporting portal isn't working. I have resorted to Stackoverflow because I have no way of getting to Microsoft.
Yesterday, I started updating Visual Studio 2022 from Visual Studio Installer by mistake and paused it shortly after. Today, I tried to open a project but Visual Studio seemed unavailable. At that point I remembered about the paused update and re-opened the Visual Studio installer. I tried to Resume, and I got the below error. The Modify and Remove options give out the same error too. There is no Repair option.
Sorry something went wrong
The dependent package of
'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Concord,version=17.1.33203.90,productarch=x64'
cannot be found: Microsoft.VisualStudio.DebuggerClient.Concord,
version=[17.0,18.0].
I also tried Restarting and deleting temporary files using the Disk Cleanup tool - no difference.
I have tried to force an uninstall from the Add or Remove programs but this still redirects me to the Visual Studio installer.
I have tried to research this error online but found nothing.
I did not fix the issue but at least I managed to uninstall the Visual Studio instance to be able to start from scratch again. If you do not want to go down the route of uninstalling, feel free to try the steps as suggested by #garbagecollector.
I deleted the installation folder for 2022 from ProgramFiles.
I deleted the Visual Studio installer from Add or Remove programs. (Note: This actually uninstalled a working version of Visual Studio 2019 that I had, and left the messed up version of 2022 with the same issues, so beware if you do not want to uninstall another working version of Visual Studio)
Then I ran InstallCleanup.exe via CMD (in admin mode). Refer to the "Remove All with InstallCleanup.exe" section within this article. This seems to have cleared all Visual Studio related files including the Visual Studio
installer, and I could re-download the installer for Visual Studio
2022 Community edition and start afresh.
I faced the same issue today and could solve it by removing corresponding dependencies from _package.json files from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\[PACKAGE_NAME] folders.
I am not sure whether you can repair your installation this way, I tried only with uninstall.
So in your case edit this file:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Concord,version=17.1.33203.90,productarch=x64 and remove the line marked with "-->" under "dependencies":
{
"id": "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Concord",
...
"dependencies": {
...
--> "Microsoft.VisualStudio.DebuggerClient.Concord": "[17.0,18.0]"
}
}
In my case I had to repeat this procedure for three or four _package.json files.
We are running into a problem opening our MVC5 solution in Visual Studio 2017. It will show a message saying loading projects, followed by "Preparing solution" and then it just freezes. Some preliminary research has lead to suggestions like
Remove the hidden .vs folder
Repair installation by running as admin
Updating to the latest released VS build
Remove any node.js type folders that have deeply nested folder structure within the solution folder
However, none of these have worked. Has anyone else run into a similar problem using VS 2017 with their solution? There are no special commands on packages loaded on startup.
I was able to finally get it to work. I updated to the latest Visual Studio build 15.0.0+26228.10, but that did not seem to help. After removing my .vs folder before opening the solution multiple times, it finally started to load. I have no 3rd party extensions or tools running.
I installed visual studio enterprise 2017 version 15.0.0+26228.10. and productivity power tool extension. the studio keep crashing when load project. I uninstall everything and reinstall vs only, the crash problem disappeared.
Deleted the vs folder, but it didn't work.
Looked for recently changed files in the project, saw Web.csproj.user — when I removed this the project works again.
Visual studio 2017 keeps crashing when i try to launch it,all i did was to launch visual studio installer go to more which is under the product am using then clicked on repair and that got me running again.
We saw some lockups, especially during the start of Batch Builds, until we set this experimental feature to False:
Tools > Options : Text Editor > C/C++ > Experimental : Enable Faster Project Load.
I don't know whether it could apply to your problem or not, but it is related to loading projects, so...
Good luck.
I had the same issue and uninstalled the ankhsvn subversion plugin then closed and re opened vs 2017 ad it worked.
For a couple of weeks now I have been unable to merge Views within Visual Studio 2013 in response to conflicts when getting Source Code from Visual Studio Team Services. I am sure I used to be able to this (we recently moved from Visual Studio Professional 2012 so I cannot be one hundred percent certain - automerging may have been sufficient in the early days of the project).
The "Accept Merge" and move to next change/conflict buttons are all greyed out and inoperable. See screenshot snippet-
This originally only happened with Views, but now seems to affect some other classes. Changes are highlighted and indicated on the scroll bar so the diff tool otherwise appears to be functioning. This only originally affected me, but now affects a new colleague into the team.
I can still either Keep Local Version or Take Server Version but this is rarely sufficient. This leaves me manually altering the local copy to apply changes highlighted by the merge tool. (Edit - See a better workaround in "Second Update" below).
Has anyone come across this before?
Visual Studio 2013 Premium (patch RTM/Update 1/Update 2 - all with the same problem), with Resharper 8.2 (originally 8.0.2) C# and Web Essentials installed. Running on Windows 7 Professional x64.
Project is ASP.NET 4.5 using MVC 5.1.2 (now additionally updated from MVC 5 where the problem first occurred) (upgraded from MVC 4 following the upgrade instructions on the ASP.NET website) in C#, using latest versions of Razor (3.1.2) and Entity Framework (6.1.0 RTM).
Edit: Initially a repair install of Visual Studio 2013 appeared to have fixed the issue. It has now however returned exactly as it was before. Since it took an hour to do the repair I cannot repeatedly do this in order to merge views. I am currently able to round trip the solution between Visual Studio 2012 Update 4 and Visual Studio 2013 in order to do merges in Visual Studio 2012 where it is working normally.
Second Edit: I am currently manually resolving conflicts by selecting the desired code (local/server), saving the merge window and then closing it which will prompt to accept the merge result. This seems to function but is obviously sub-optimal. It may however be helpful for other users.
In the event, installing Resharper 8.1 on top of 8.02 appears to have fixed it fixed it briefly before the problem returned yet again. I had previously completed a repair install of Visual Studio Premium 2013 as well - which briefly seemed to have fixed it before it broke again. I only mention it in case the fix is cumulative.
I am unclear if it was a bug in Resharper that was somehow preventing the merge, or a persistent problem with the installation that the upgrade cleaned up (Resharper removes previous versions and then installs updates, rather than attempting to install over the top). Update - I am extremely confident that this is not related to ReSharper and that it was the configuration of Visual Studio as a result of re-installing the extension and not the extension itself that fixed the issue.
In either case, the issue (for now) seems to have disappeared and this seems to be related to the upgrade, or is an extremely strong co-incidence.
Colleagues with the same versions of Visual Studio and Resharper, working on the same project, the same version of Windows and (in one case) the same hardware were not affected, so it seems likely it is an edge case niche issue caused by corrupted data somewhere.
I have a current working theory that this is related to different patch versions of Visual Studio (for example Visual Studio 2012 Update 2, Visual Studio 2013 RTM, Visual Studio 2013 Update 1, Visual Studio 2013 Update 2. This only affects Visual Studio 2013 for us.
Simple solution I use is carry on with your manual merge process once you are done simply Close the Merge-* tab (the one you are using to merge files) this will bring up a prompt for confirming if you want to Save the changes made (this is the merge changes you made to your local file) click 'yes' Now it comes back to Resolve Conflicts tab and brings up another prompt asking if you want to Accept Merge Result, click 'yes'(this is same as the button Accept Merge)
Since you have VS2012 installed and merge is working there, you can create a link to its TF.exe in VS2013, similar to one on the picture below, and fix the issues there. Set Command to c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE\TF.exe and Arguments to resolve.
You do that in Tools->External Tools.
I'm running Visual Studio 2012, when I add a new File/Reference to a project the message box appears showing the error message
set property 'system.windows.resourcedictionary.deferrablecontent' threw an exception
I read an MSDN article suggesting to run the command devenv /resetuserdata on visual studio command prompt to resolve this problem, tried it but didn't work for me. In fact the command prompt shows the Unknown Error message.
Some addins cause this issue for me so have had to workaround it whenever it occurs:
In Vis studio -
Tools > Options > Environment > Add-in Security, uncheck 'Allow Add-in components to load', OK
Restart vis studio
The error shouldn't occur anymore, so go back to
Tools > Options > Environment > Add-in Security and re-check Allow Add-in components to load, OK
To be specific, I get this error when trying to add files to projects and manage Nuget Packages.
Update
I now make a point of opening
'Tools > Nuget package manager > Manage nuget packages for solution'
whenever I open up a new instance of Vis studio, before loading a solution, just to make sure the window loads properly
That way I know I won't get this issue.
In my case it was a style with the same key defined twice in a ResourceDictionary (WPF)
I have Windows azure tools for Microsoft VisulStudio 2013- v2.2 and Windows azure tools for Microsoft lightswitch VisulStudio 2013- v2.2.
I uninstall only Windows azure tools for microsoft lightswitch vs 2013 .
It's working fine...
I fixed it. The resolution was to remove the Windows Azure Tools for Visual Studio 2012 which I was not actually using, and the error went straight away.
In my case it was to first launch Visual Studio in safe mode. You can create a shortcut for visual studio with a target like this:
'"F:\Program Files\Visual Studio\VS2013\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" -safemode'
Once launched in safe mode, you can remove the problematic extension via the Addin Manager. However, this wont work for some extensions, as the uninstall option might be disabled for certain extensions when running in safe mode, particularly if you have already uninstalled another extension in the same session.
In My case the problem was caused by Paradox Game engine, in which I had uninstalled it via 'Programs and Features' - which in return did not remove the extension which was originally installed via Nuget package. Uninstalling Paradox via "Programs And Features" left the extension itself still registered in Visual Studio, presumably causing a hidden NullReferenceException.
This issue can be caused by any extension that may have an error in it, or by extensions that were not properly uninstalled.
Also, see this article...
The mentioned issue can be resolved by simply restart the Visual Studio. :P
Also seem to be able to get around this by closing the project and vis studio instance, re-opening, then when the start page/open project screen appears selecting Tools > Extensions and Updates..., then pressing Close
Now open the project and the error doesn't get thrown when trying add files or manage nuget packages, weird.
Just annoying you have to remember to open Extensions and Updates each time...
Other wise make sure given Resourcedictionary.xaml path is correct or not
I had to remove Xamarin from Add/Remove Programs in Control panel and restart Visual studio to fix this.
I had this problem with My Devexpress Project in VS 2015
What finally worked for me was.
Close my solution,
Close Visual Studio,
Open Visual Studio,
Create a New dummy project,
Add a form to it,
Close and save the new project,
Reopen original project and all was ok.
for everyone else who are working in silverlight sdk environment with windows phone8 sdk.
The versions of sliverlight which are compatible with visual studio versions -
vs2012- sliverlight sdk 4
vs2013- silverlight sdk 5
I was integrating in vs2013 and as soon as I updated it with silverlight sdk 5, The errors went away.
In my case it was the Line Endings: you can have different formatting and by copy pasting some code one file got a different Line Ending. It was enough to File > Save As and then click the little arrow next to the save button.
Then click on save with encoding and choose the one you are using in all other files.
See Andrew Truckle's answer.
I hope this helps
I'm trying to open a TFS Build Process Template (DefaultTemplate.11.1.xaml) file, incorporating an activity from Community TFS Build Extensions. I'm following instractions from here, section Get the custom activities into Visual Studio. I had no problems with that back in the RC version of Visual Studio 2012 but now, after upgrading to the release version, an attempt to open the file ends up in an error:
System.Xaml.XamlException: 'The type ‘InArgument(mtbwa:BuildSettings)’ of property ‘BuildSettings’ could not be resolved.'
TFS itself doesn't seem to have any problems running builds based on this template.
I am able to open the file without the trick, but then of course the custom activities are not displayed properly.
Check this out:
http://blogs.blackmarble.co.uk/blogs/rfennell/post/2012/08/30/Type-InArgument(mtbwaBuildSettings)-of-property-BuildSettings-errors-in-TFS-2012-RTM-builds.aspx
Quote:
"if the Visual Studio class library project you were using to manage the process template editing was targeting .NET 4.5, it needed to be 4.0. Well with Visual Studio 2012 RTM this is no longer the case, in fact it is the other way around."
I don't really think this is a great answer but I don't have enough rep to comment...
Build action on the xaml file is set to None?
I had a similar issue when opening build templates in VS 2012 RTM, but I was able to open the xaml "a little," meaning that I could open it in the workflow designer, but a lot of it was just the error activity. I found some errors to the effect that I should add references which I had not needed before (neither in VS 2010 or VS 11), such as PresentationCore and PresentationFramework. I wish I remembered more detail to pass on to you on this point.
