I'm currently using MvvmCross DownloadCache -- and it's working alright -- especially nice when I just need to drop in an Image URL and it automagically downloads / caches the image and serves up a UIImage.
I was hoping to leverage the code for one other use case -- which is I'd like to grab source images from URL's and cache the files on the local file system, but what I really want for this other use case is the image path on the local file system instead of the UIImage itself.
What would help me most if I could get an example of how I might accomplish that. Is it possible to make that happen in a PCL, or does it need to go into the platform specific code?
Thanks -- that works, but just in case anyone else is following along, I wanted to document how I got the Mvx.Resolve<IMvxFileDownloadCache>() to work. In my setup.cs (in the touch project), I had:

But that failed because MvxFileDownloadCache constructor takes a few arguments. So I ended up with this:

I could avoid that question by changing the cache name on the one I'm constructing by hand, but I do want it to be a single cache (the assets will be the same).

I am building my first ever Wicket project and I find that the amount of properties files in my code base is growing rapidly. Ideally I would like to contain all internationalization in a single file for each language/region. Just so I can find things easily.
I found out that my application properties file could be ideal for this. My application properties file is called ApiAdminApplication.properties. Now I am trying to add my translatables to this file, without making a mess of things.
According to the javadoc of ComponentStringResourceLoader this should be possible. Apparently the lookup order is as follows:
page1.properties => form1.input1.Required
page1.properties => Required
form1.properties => input1.Required
form1.properties => Required
input1.properties => Required
myApplication.properties => page1.form1.input1.Required
myApplication.properties => Required
The second to last line contains the behavior I am looking for, but cannot get to work.
I have a page called CustomerEditPage which in turn contains a form with id customerForm
So here is what I am adding to ApiAdminApplication.properties, and what I think should work according to the snippet above:
CustomerEditPage.customerForm.name=Customer name
Sadly, this does not work. I can however get this to work by leaving out the page name, and starting with customerForm, but that is not what I want. I want per page internationalization contained in a single file.
Can anyone give me some pointers on this? Thanks.
I think the javadoc of ComponentStringResourceLoader is just wrong and should be fixed.
To accomplish what you need you will need to extend ClassStringResourceLoader and override getResourcePath(). In your impl you will have to prepend the result with the name of the page that owns the Component passed as a parameter.
Then you will need to register your loader at ApiAdminApplication#init() method with:
getResourceSettings().getStringResourceLoaders().add(new MyClassStringResourceLoader(ApiAdminApplication.class))
see the defaults.
Please file a bug report at https://issues.apache.org/jira/projects/WICKET/issues so that the javadoc issue is fixed (or someone else who knows better than me how to accomplish this can explain us).
After reporting the bug I ended up doing what martin-g suggested, and extended ClassStringResourceLoader. For your convenience, here is what I did:

There is a small gotcha to this. It always requires you to work with complete resource paths. This can be a bit tricky, I had some problems with the snippet below:
<input type="submit" wicket:id="save" wicket:message="value:save" />
This evaluated to CustomerEditPage.customerForm.save.save, where I expected it to become: CustomerEditPage.customerForm.save. This is not the case because the wicket:message actually becomes a child of the save form input.
I ended up going for:
<input type="submit" wicket:id="save" wicket:message="value:caption" />
Which evaluates to CustomerEditPage.customerForm.save.caption, which I find somewhat more readable. Of course, you could roll your own more advanced resource loader, but this one is good enough for me.
I've a requirement to download a file from S3 based on a message content. In other words, the file to download is previously unknown, I've to search and find it at runtime. S3StreamingMessageSource doesn't seem to be a good fit because:
It relies on polling where as I need to wait for the message.
I can't find any way to create a S3StreamingMessageSource dynamically in the middle of a flow. gateway(IntegrationFlow) looks interesting but what I need is a gateway(Function<Message<?>, IntegrationFlow>) that doesn't exist.
Another candidate is S3MessageHandler but it has no support for listing files which I need for finding the desired file.
I can implement my own message handler using AWS API directly, just wondering if I'm missing something, because this doesn't seem like an unusual requirement. After all, not every app just sits there and keeps polling S3 for new files.
There is S3RemoteFileTemplate with the list() function which you can use in the handle(). Then split() result and call S3MessageHandler for each remote file to download.
Although the last one has functionality to download the whole remote dir.
For anyone coming across this question, this is what I did. The trick is to:
Set filters later, not at construction time. Note that there is no addFilters or getFilters method, so filters can only be set once, and can't be added later. #artem-bilan, this is inconvenient.

I want to access the file generated by Xtext to compile it automatically. So I need its absolute path. It's enough to get the absolute path of the current project at run-time. Any idea how I can get it?
I am working inside the "MyDslGenerator" Class. I tried to get it from the "resource" in

but couldn't find it.

Is there a way to control the name of the MSTEST video recoding file names or the folder names with the test name. It seems to generate different guid everytime and thus very difficult to map the test with its corresponding video recording files.
The only solution I can see is to read the TRX file and map the guid to Test Name.
Any suggestions ??
If you're not opposed to doing it by hand, it's pretty easy. I encountered the same problem, and needed them to be somewhere predictable so I could email links to the videos. In the end my solution just ended up being to code in the functionality by hand. It's a bit involved, but not too difficult.
First, you'll need to have Expression Encoder 4 installed.
Then you'll need to add these references to your project:
Microsoft.Expression.Encoder
Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.Api2
Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.Types
Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.Utilities
Next, you need to add the following inclusion statements:
using Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.Profiles;
using Microsoft.Expression.Encoder.ScreenCapture;
Then you can use [TestInitialize] and [TestCleanup] to define the correct behavior. These methods will run at the beginning and end of each test respectively. This can be done something like this:

Obviously this code needs some error and edge case handling, but it should get you started.
You should also know that the free version of Expression Encoder 4 limits you to 10 minutes per video file, so you may want to make a timer that will start a new video for you when it hits 10 minutes.
I am working on an application where I have an images folder relative to my application root. I want to be able to specify this relative path in the Properties -> Settings designer eg. "\Images\". The issue I am running into is in cases where the Environment.CurrentDirectory gets changed via an OpenFileDialog the relative path doesn't resolve to the right location. Is there a way to specifiy in the Settings file a path that will imply to always start from the application directory as opposed to the current directory? I know I can always dynamically concatenate the application path to the front of the relative path, but I would like my Settings property to be able to resolve itself.
As far as I know, there is no built-in functionality that will allow this type of path resolution. Your best option is to dynamically determine the applications executing directory and concatenate to it your images path. You don't want to use Environment.CurrentDirectory specifically for the reasons you mention - the current directory may not always be correct for this situation.
The safest code I've found to find the executing assembly location is this:

Are you looking for Application.ExecutablePath ? That should tell you where the application's executable is, remove the executable name, and then append your path to it.
2 options:
The code that uses the setting can resolve the setting against the directory of the current executing assembly.
You can create your own type that serializes as a string relative to the executing assembly, and has an accessor for the full path that will resolve against the directory of the current executing assembly.
Code sample:

The nice thing about this code is that it allows a fully qualified path, or a relative path, in your settings. If you need the path to be relative to a different assembly, you can change which assembly's location you use - GetExecutingAssembly() will give you the location of the assembly with the code you're running, and GetCallingAssembly() would be good if you go with option 2.
This seem to work in both WinForms and ASP.NET (gives the path to the config file):

For Windows and Console applications, the obvious way is by using:

I suggest you to use Assembly.CodeBase, as shown below:

You can try Application.ExecutablePath. But you need to make reference to System.Windows.Forms. This may not be a good idea if you want your class library to steer clear of forms and UI stuff.
You can try the Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().Location. But if, somehow, you do a "Shadow Copy" before you run your application (like the default NUnit behavior), then this property will return you the shadow copy location, not the real, physical location.
The best way is to implement a function that calls the CodeBase property of Assembly object and chop off the irrelevant portion of the string.
I use the following two methods to help with that:

The reason to look at parent dirs to to be easier in use during development when various build scripts end up sticking things in directories like bin\x64\Release\NonsensePath\.
