Understanding Jmeter load testing tool - jmeter

As am working in a testing industry, I need to learn bit more about JMETER load testing tool, Please provide details of JMETER load testing tool, how many users(threads), ramp up period, need to define while doing load testing ?

Refer the documentation link below for your reference:

Can we user selenium UI Regression Scripts to do performant testing

I need some input from loadrunner/jmeter experts.
I'm having automation scripts which is written in selenium+ java .
Can i use same scripts to do performance testing using loadrunner/jemeter.?
why i want do like this : to maintain single code base. if any changes happen so i will able to correct at one place and use it for UI Automation and performance testing.
Any help appreciate.
Selenium automates browsers that it!
Jmeter is specifically to use for Performance test. to be more specific either stress testing or load testing.
JMeter and Selenium can be used together for load testing of a website. Selenium is used to perform load testing and JMeter is used to measure the performance of the same. One can measure how fast HTML pages take to load, and also check javascript and CSS performances. This is done using a combination of the graphical JMeter interface and some scripting to invoke Selenium code.
Please read more about it here
JMeter and Selenium are both used for web application testing. But the main difference is that JMeter is mostly used to test the performance of web applications under load and stress. On the other hand, Selenium is best suited for automation and cross browser testing of a website. Based on what type of testing is necessary for the project, one can choose JMeter or Selenium or integrate both if that serves their purpose.
Theoretically yes, it is possible, but it is not recommended even by Selenium developers, be informed of the following additional constraints:
Browsers are quite resource intensive, for example Firefox 94 needs 1 CPU core and 2 GB of RAM per instance so you can calculate how much RAM you will need to simulate, say, 100 users.
You won't get metrics and KPIs normally available as the result of a performance test run

how to open a webpage using Jmeter

How to resolve the below error in jmeter
1.) Request to open Google.com
2.)
P.S: I have just started learning jmeter.
Which is the best way to learn it, please advice.
The easiest way of creating a JMeter test is just recording it. JMeter comes with HTTP(S) Test Script Recorder which can be used for building a test plan skeleton via capturing browser requests, check out Apache JMeter proxy Step-by-step for more information.
I would recommend attending JMeter Academy, this way you will be able to quickly ramp-up in JMeter in particular and performance testing in general. Performance Testing Guidance for Web Applications book is also very useful
for performance testing greenhorns.
In regards to the possible error, I cannot see the details, just a blind shot: are you behind a corporate proxy/firewall? If yes, you will need to "tell" JMeter the details of this proxy so it could access the Internet (same applies to "recording" approach of tests creation), see Using JMeter behind a proxy chapter for the relevant JMeter configuration.
JMeter is not a browser
See first page of Jmeter
JMeter does not execute the Javascript found in HTML pages. Nor does
it render the HTML pages as a browser does

JAVA API performance testing using GRINDER

i'm not sure if GRINDER is still best tool so far JAVA API performance testing tool. If anyone is using it, could you share your feedback? tx
I have used JMeter and Grinder and can tell you that grinder is awesome . JMeter is also great . Not sure why you will be testing a JAVA API.
Grinder is more like a programmers performance tester tool. Once you get a hang of it you will not lean away from it . The only complex part could be the recorded scripts that grinder generates .The initial recorded script can get you overwhelmed and you might think what have i picked up .
But actually it just a step by step script and easy to modify as per your needs.
Any performance testing will have only these steps .
Record - Generates the Initial Script of what you want to test.
Modify - Modify it as per you needs. For grinder you may require a basic knowledge of some scripting language. Many times this may not be required.
Test - Put the load you want to .Here you need to decide the number of threads plus agents .
My vote is for grinder specially for complicated scenarios.

How to do performance testing using Jmeter with the existing cucumber scenarios?

I am working on a project where the core application needs a harness to send messages which will process the message and feed to a portal web application. I am writing the automated testing for the portal application using cucumber/ruby/capybara.
I have never used Jmeter but through a colleague i just understand the basics of the Jmeter GUI tool. I have been asked me to use Jmeter as harness tool so that I can later extend the functionality to do performance testing as well. How can I do this ? How can i use Jmeter in my automated scripts using cucumber/ruby/selenium or capybara to do my testing ?
I dont want to use GUI as the whole test case should be automated end to end, I have to figure out a way to integrate Jmeter functionality to do test data set up and then run my browser test to check whether the data exists.
i hope my question is clear, ask me if you are not. Hoping to get a solution as i dont think it is a uncommon question.
Note: i have seen the ruby-jmeter gem, i think it does partly what i need but it is actually a DSL to use jmeter in ruby.the problem with that is I have to stick the syntax of gem and have to figure all the options in gem. I have also read a blog that this can be done using Jmeter recording proxy and running the browser tests at the proxy which I am not sure how to do that. here is the link where this is mentioned:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/cukes/4ZGkf3a234Y
As per my understanding of the problem, please go through the below links
for recording the script using Jmeter:
http://jmeter.apache.org/usermanual/jmeter_proxy_step_by_step.pdf
for integrating selenium in Jmeter:
There are actually 2 ways of achieving this:
exporting all your selenium scripts as *.jar and copying it to /junit folder under /lib folder of Jmeter.
Use JUnit Sampler to execute your test cases:
http://intensetesting.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/integrating-jmeter-with-selenium-code/
use WebDeriver plugin for Jmeter and write your selenium test cases in Jmeter:
http://jmeter-plugins.org/wiki/WebDriverTutorial/
Also you can run Jmeter via command line.

Can you performance test Siebel applications using JMeter?

Is it possible to record JMeter scripts for performance testing Siebel?
Siebel uses a custom format for ENCODING its requests plus some necessary technical parameters.
So it's possible provided it's the http module but rather hard job as there are a lot of correlations to do on technical IDs.
For recording, see this:
JMeter record Siebel CRM System
You can use this commercial plugin that will do auto-correlation for you:
https://ubikloadpack.com/
Yes, it is possible to test Siebel with JMeter. I have done so for one of my projects with my client TataSky where I have used JMeters distributed testing approach for generating upto 2000 users with 4 - 5 normal desktops. Siebel uses http protocol so it is finally about understanding the requests sent by browser and responses by the web-server and correlating between them. It gets really messy though, so my suggestion is correlate parameters which are mandatory.
You can use JMeter-Siebel-plugin which provides Siebel HTTP(S) Test Script Recorder test element handy for capturing and correlating Siebel traffic.
The plugin can be installed using JMeter Plugins Manager
Check out Introducing the Siebel CRM Correlation Plugin in JMeter article for comprehensive instructions.
