I am working on a GUI using qtruby. I have a ListWidget that I am filling with ListWidgetItems. So far these have just contained the text that I wanted to display and everything worked fine. I wanted these items to also hold some hidden data to use when they are clicked on. I used ListWidgetItem.setData() to set the data and I can get the data from it when it is clicked just fine. However once I add the data the text being displayed is now shifted over to the right about 4 spaces. When I click on it a little dotted box appears around the text but not the space that was added. It looks like it is a space for an icon but I have not set any icon and I don't want one. How do I get rid of this extra space so that items containing data are lined up with everything?
The code is very straight forward:
item = Qt::ListWidgetItem.new( #grain_strings[index] )
item.setFont( #font )
# TODO this is causing the text to be indented, removing it removes the indent
item.setData( 1, Qt::Variant.from_value( grain.type ) )
#item_list.insertItem( #end_of_grains+1, item )
The first argument to setData is the role number and for some reason you chose to set it to 1. The documentation says: "The data to be rendered as a decoration in the form of an icon. (QColor, QIcon or QPixmap)". So you are telling Qt to display an icon but you are not giving it a valid icon object.
Try setting the role to Qt::UserRole, which is "The first role that can be used for application-specific purposes." I am not sure how to access that constant from Ruby. If it is not provided by the qtruby gem, you could use 0x100 I suppose.

I want users entering data across multiple tabs to be able to see at a glance whether and where they have validation errors / fields not populated. I can indicate errors for the selected form in the form body, but for unselected tabs I want to use red color and/or a red icon in the tab to indicate if it is failing validation.
I see various posts explaining how to use a custom renderer or effect to set tab text color for all tabs or selected/unselected tabs (e.g. here, here, here modifying the framework itself and here). However, the posts I've seen do not show a way to change the color of a SPECIFIC tab. In this case I want to either change the color or add/remove an error icon that would show beside the Title in the tab header based on the validation results for the page accessed via the tab. Is that possible?
Update:
I also found this - seemed more promising because it does seem to change tabs based on their positions or title rather than just on whether they were selected or not, but it seems to be dependent on using bottom tabs, which I'm not doing.
I also have found this, and element.Children[i] does get me the ContentPage from which I can determine what color I want the tab's test to be, and it's possible that the tab variable that's returned by activity.ActionBar.GetTabAt(i) somehow gives me access to update the tab's text color, but I'm not seeing any method or property that seems promising - basically I still don't see how to get access to the UITabBarItem so I can call SetTitleAndAttributes on it to set its text color. (Also, if I declare the tab variable by its type of Android.App.ActionBar.Tab instead of using var, I get a note saying that type has been deprecated. It seems upon investigation that the whole ActionBar class has been deprecated. But how can that be when it still exists as a property of Android.App.Activity, which is not deprecated?)
Many thanks for your assistance!
I have a form onto which I have placed an unbound text box. This box is designed to calculate the total of 4 other bound text boxes which have simple numerical values in. I have used the expression builder in the unbound text box to set its control source property i.e. =([box1]+[box2]+[box3]+[box4])
When I first put this in it works fine. However after I close and then reopen the data base the box sits on the form saying #NAME? as if it has lost its control source. I have checked the data source after and nothing seems to be wrong. Any ideas why its happening. Its a pain as I have a button which when pressed opens a report based on the value in the unbound text box.
Try using Nz:
=Nz([box1],0)+Nz([box2],0)+Nz([box3],0)+Nz([box4],0)
Not entirely sure why it now works but I have re added the text box and the calculations into the source code and it seems to be fine. Perhaps just a glitch in my previous attempt... I used the =sum solution rather than the =Nz solution. Maybe my version of access or my data base is just fickle... thanks anyway
The IUP documentation specifies a GUI element called Separator.
However it’s missing from the Available Classes list that pops up when you click Add Child / Add Brother in the Layout Dialog (the IUP GUI layout editor).
Not only that, when you try to include Separator manually in a LED file (as SEPARATOR() inside VBOX() or HBOX()) and then load it in the Layout Dialog and show it (or “map” it), you get the following error message:
IupMap failed.
Subsequently, only the GUI elements that precede Separator are displayed. Why?
Part of the answer could be that “it shows a line between two menu items” (per documentation) whereas I have attempted to use it outside menu on dialog’s canvas (inside VBOX()). It can’t be a complete truth though because I have seen Separator being used outside menu in GetParam dialog (screenshot there). And even if it were, it still doesn’t explain why Separator is missing from Available Classes in the Layout Dialog.
IupSeparator is for menus only. That list is displayed to insert a new element inside the dialog.
The separator in IupGetParam is a IupLabel with the SEPARATOR attribute.
In the meanwhile, I have found a functional replacement to Separator and it’s apparently Label with attribute SEPARATOR set to HORIZONTAL/VERTICAL/YES.
Example (LED):
FakeSeparatorDlg = DIALOG[TITLE = "IUP fake separator demo"](
VBOX[MARGIN = 5x5,GAP = 5](
LABEL[TITLE = "Label Text 1"](""),
LABEL[SEPARATOR = HORIZONTAL](""),
LABEL[TITLE = "Label Text 2"]("")
)
)
Attribute EXPAND = HORIZONTALFREE will be added automatically.
Demo sample.c also includes an unexplained attribute NAME = SAMP_SEP.
The downside is lack of a visible title but I will simply use Frame instead of Label when I need that.

in a List view I want a particular control (textbox) to have a red background color if it has a certain value. I have tried the following:
Click on the textbox then click the Data icon in the context sensitive controls that appear. I can then see that the name of the control is First_NameTextBox. I then click anywhere on the List view and click the Actions icon in the context controls that appear to the right of the view. I select "On Current". I then create two steps that should be executed whenever a new record is activated:
If [First_NameTextBox] = "somevalue" Then
SetProperty
Control Name [First_NameTextBox]
Property BackColor
Value #FF0000
End If
However, this turns the textbox red no matter what the value in First_NameTextBox is. How do I reference the CURRENT value of the textbox?
Conditional formatting based on a field value is not available for the List View in a Web App.
If you've built web pages (with or without a templating engine), the design limitations of Access can be frustrating.
Another kind of frustration comes from moving a form in Access from the native Access environment to a browser-based display.
I've felt the first kind of frustration, but so far I've avoided the second kind. I keep MS Access and HTML-rendered forms far away from each other.
Conditional Formatting in the List View of Access Web Apps is Available its just way harder than it should be.
Input "If Statement" under the "Current Macro" by clicking outside any text box or label then traveling to the top right of the view and you will see the Lightning bolt which allows two options, "On Load" and "On Current".
SELECT ON CURRENT
Don't forget You will need to set the control back to the original color by using the else. (also, for some reason I have to flip the Colors so where you would think red would go, Put White.
Example:
IF = "" True Then
White
Else
Red
END IF /DONT ASK ME WHY!
Summary: your Code is Sound, Just input it under the Views Current Macro Location
This is my first post, i spent DAYS looking for this information and found in the deep google somewhere so i hope this helps you.
When using custom-draw (NM_CUSTOMDRAW) to draw the entire contents of a ListView SubItem (in Report/Details view), it would be nice to be able to apply the same left and right
padding in my custom paint method that is applied by the control itself for non-custom-drawn items.
Is there a way to programmatically retrieve this padding value? Is it
related to the width of a particular character (" " or "w" or something?) or
is it a fixed value (6px on left and 3px on right or something) or...?
EDIT: To clarify, I want to add the same padding to my NM_CUSTOMDRAWn SubItems that the control adds to items that it draws, and the metric that I'm looking for, for example, is the white space between the beginning of the 2nd column and the word "Siamese" in the following screenshot (Note: screenshot from MSDN added to help explain my question):
(source: microsoft.com)
Note that the word "Siamese" is aligned with the header item ("Breed"). I would like to be able to guarantee the same alignment for custom-drawn items.
use ListView Header message HDM_GETBITMAPMARGIN
see link text
ListView_GetSubItemRect (LVM_GETSUBITEMTECT)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms930172.aspx
Despite what the documentation says I suspect LVIR_LABEL returns just the returns the bounding rectangle of the item text, as per ListView_GetItemRect.
(This just kept niggling me as I though I had actually seen an answer somewhere when playing with NM_CUSTOMDRAW).
Edit After Comment 2:
I imagine you have seen NMLVCUSTOMDRAW which if you are willing to use Version 6.0. has rcText. I wouldn't since I use Win2K.
Given what you have found I would go back to the suggestion of using
ListView_GetItemRect to get LVIR_LABEL and compare that with LVIR_BOUNDS and use the difference.
the way for doing this is retrieving the format of the corresponding column with
ListView_GetColumn()
then check the retrieved myLVCOLUMN.mask
LVCOLUMN myLVCOLUMN;
myLVCOLUMN.mask=LVCF_FMT;
ListView_GetColumn(hwnd,nCol,&myLVCOLUMN);
then when we draw the corresponding label belonging to that column
if(myLVCOLUMN.fmt & LVCFMT_CENTER)
DrawText(x,x,x,x, DT_CENTER | DT_WORD_ELLIPSIS );
else if (myLVCOLUMN.fmt & LVCFMT_RIGHT)
DrawText(x,x,x,x, DT_RIGHT | DT_WORD_ELLIPSIS );
else
DrawText(x,x,x,x, DT_LEFT | DT_WORD_ELLIPSIS );
I would assume that GetSystemMetrics() is that you need to look at. I think that SM_CXEDGE and SM_CYEDGE are probably the values you want, but don't quote me on that. ;-)
Can only guess without seeing your output.
A few suggestions: If you are using the DrawTextEx function, have you have experimented with DT_INTERNAL et al?
Are you accidentally putting in a blank image/icon.
Does it look ok in classic screen mode? If so I would look at XP Theme functions to see if some thing is going on.
Late edit after first comment:
I wonder if the size of rectangle matches the space required for the LVN_ENDLABELEDIT edit box around the text so the text doesn't move (or for a focus rectangle)?
I guess you could compare the result of LVM_GETITEMRECT with LVIR_LABEL on the first column and use the difference as your left border.
