How to create a Canvas object inside a Paintbox on Lazarus? - pascal

On a Form I've put a Paintbox with the property Align = alClient and a Button.
I need to draw a object of Canvas type inside the PaintBox in the OnClick event of the Button.

However, the Lazarus show the follow message:

But the constructor receive two parameters, exactly like was specified on onClick event of the Button. How to solve this problem?

Set position of InfoTip

My TListView control has ShowHints enabled and handles the OnInfoTip event. The message in the popup InfoTip box is set in the OnInfoTip handler. However, the position of the popup InfoTip box is relative to the position of the mouse when hovering over an item in the list. There doesn't appear to be a way to customise the position.
Is it possible set the position of the hint popup, for example in a specific area of the TListView or even elsewhere on the form outside the bounds of the TListView control? Ideally, I'd like to display the hint popup in such a way to minimise (or eliminate) obscuring any other item in the TListView.
First you have to expose the CMHintShow of the TListView as following:

Then at the OnInfoTip event you set the desired Position. At my example, I get the coords of the TopLeft Corner of a ScrollBox (sbxFilter - which is located under the TlistView) and pass the Coords to the TListView property MyPos.

It is possible to display the hint, that you define in the OnInfoTip() event in e.g. a StatusPanel of a StatusBar (at the bottom of the form).

TShape - drawing issue on Paint event

I'm stuck in a class derived from TShape.
In the Paint method, I use the Canvas to draw a rectangle. In the Form, I have a TTrackBar that allows to change Left and Top coordinates of the TShape.
It does not matter what values I set to the Left and Top using the TTrackBar, the rectangle does not move accordingly. Instead, when I set those values via code, the rectangle appears in the correct position.
I'm coding a FireMonkey app with Delphi 10.1 Berlin on Windows 10.

Sorry Folks! Is the old habit of using Left & Top instead of Position.X & Position.Y. I agree with the new Position way to set Left & Top, but it doesn't make sense that Embarcadero still makes available this properties, but they do nothing in terms of setting Left & Top of the control. Saying it in other words, since those old properties are still available, they should set the Left & Top properties same as Position.X & Position.Y, otherwise it leads to this kind of mistake, where you sware you are setting Left & Top, but the control does not move.
The correct way to set Left & Top is:
Position.X := aLeft;
Position.Y := aTop;
unless Embarcadero changes the behavior of Left & Top properties (wich is very unlikely).

Move form without border style

how do I move a borderless form? I tried looking on the internet, but nothing. Thanks a lot.
You can drag a form using any contained control, including itself.
Using the following example, you can move a form by clicking on its canvas and dragging. You could do the same with a panel on the form by putting the same code in the panel's MouseDown event, which would let you create your own pseudo caption bar.

If you mean dragging the window by the mouse, you can override WM_NCHITTEST message handling and return HTCAPTION for the drag region. The below will drag the window within the upper 30 pixels for insance:

Looking for a custom image grid

I'm trying to find a grid which is especially designed to show images. It needs to have good performance too, and preferably with some sort of thumbnail cache. The images need to be loaded from files, and it would be good if images can be assigned dynamically too. It shouldn't work on a list of col/row records like standard grids, but a single list of items, each item representing an image. There should be a property to define col width and row height for all cols and rows at once, not one at a time. The end goal is to list all images with user options to control how large to display the images. It will be used as a product display, so there needs to be some sort of custom drawing capability too, like an OnDrawItem event. This may display up to 50,000 images in this list, so TListView won't work, as it's very heavy for this.
It needs to work with Delphi 2010, XE2, and preferably 7 too.
Here's 3 examples of how to display 8 images below. I don't mean each image being a different size, but exactly the same size. No 2 columns can have different widths, and same with rows.
For the fun of it, I wrote an ImageGrid component for you.
It has only a vertical scroll bar; resizing the width of the control adjusts the column count and row count. The images are cached as resized bitmaps in an internal list, along with their file names.
Because loading and resampling these images may take some time, depending on image count, resolution and whether you want to use the Graphics32 library for better resample quality, the component delegates the loading process to a separate thread, which (re)runs on setting the column width or the row height, and on changing the file names or the folder path in which the component tries to find all images of types to be supplied in the FileFormats property.

I'm using the multi-image view from the ImageEn library. It does everything you asked for, and it's very fast. I'm happy with it. You can still get an older, free version from Torry that works with Delphi 7 (I haven't tried it on XE2).
The methods aren't exactly intuitive, but once you get the hang of it (nice help file included), it works great.
The latest version has some more features, and it's not expensive if you do decide to license it.
You can see a video of ImageEn multi-image view in action in my application.
They even have a Flow View control that looks like the slide show on a Mac.

Use HWND (or something similar) as Node Image in Virtual Stringtree

Is it possible to display an Icon obtained from an external Handle, as the Image of my Node in Virtual Stringtree? The Node's Data contains the HWND.
I would use ImageList assigned to your VT's Images property and OnGetImageIndex event.
Here's how to fill the image list using WM_GETICON.
