"Publish" updates connection string properly, but "Publish to Azure" does not? - visual-studio

I've noticed that when publishing my WebApp project to Azure Cloud Services (as a web role) with VS 2013, if I use just "Publish" (which just updates the website, and not the whole VM), it correctly updates the web.config file with the connection string specified in the publish profile. But when I use "Publish to Azure" to update the entire VM, it fails to update the connection string, and leaves it pointing to the incorrect storage account or DB.
Has anybody else observed this? Strangely it seems to be doing the right thing when I use Publish To Azure on my staging instance, but when updating the production instance it's definitely not doing what I expect it to.

TF15013: The requested Team Foundation Server is not registered with the proxy server

I have configured TFS Proxy server and have set the source control setting of my local VS client. Also TFS Application server & TFS Proxy server both are in same network Domain.
But when i am taking get latest of any team project and second time taking the get latest of same team project at different machine but files are downloading Main server and giving below warning.
TF15013: The requested Team Foundation Server is not registered with the proxy server.
Can Anyone help me out how to resolve this issue & make fast get latest.
Thanks,
You can try to use the proxy command to configure your client to use a proxy server: see Proxy Command
eg :
c:\projects>tf proxy /add http://server:8081 /default:global /collection:http://tfsserver:8080/
If that still not work, recommend you to reconfigure the Proxy, you must use service accounts to install Team Foundation Server, and Team Foundation Server Proxy. These service accounts become the identity for the installed component.
By default, every component uses a built-in account (such as Network Service) as its service account.Built-in accounts do not use passwords and already have the Log on as a service permission, making them easier to manage, especially in a domain environment. See requirements.
After that you can reference below link to configure the TFS proxy to work with Your TFS:
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/buckh/2016/10/12/how-to-configure-a-tfs-proxy-to-work-with-team-services/
Update:
TFS 2013 is Xaml build system, double chick the definition will pop up the definition to edit. TFS 2017 is vNext build system, it will redirect to web client build progress page. That's by design, not related to the source settings.
And as far as I know, there isn't the utility or third part tools can open the vNext build definition in VS directly, vNext build definition is task independent, you can edit it conveniently via web portal.

Visual Studio webdeploy fail even when connection is validated?

I am trying to deploy my webapp VS2015 RC1 DNX 451. Even when I validate connection and run publish I get error
Severity Code Description Project File
Error Error Code: ERROR_USER_UNAUTHORIZED
Error More Information: Connected to the remote computer ("crocus.arvixe.com") using the Web Management Service, but could not authorize. Make sure that you are using the correct user name and password, that the site you are connecting to exists, and that the credentials represent a user who has permissions to access the site. Learn more at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=221672#ERROR_USER_UNAUTHORIZED.
Error Error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
Googling the issue and even trying to view host forum just says make sure username and password is correct. I am getting nowhere trying various settings. Any ideas how to debug the issue?
I am using Arvixe.com as host.
You should contact Arvixe.com. They likely have some odd configuration on their servers but I would suspect they can help you resolve the issue.
Arvixe does not support Web Deploy anymore. Once they move you to their new servers Web Deploy won't be available to you. In Visual Studio you can set up a Publish with FTP instead of Web Deploy. If you're used to Web Deploy publishing your database changes, then you'll need to do those yourself with SQL scripts. Entity Frameworks has an option to produce a SQL script for a migration, so you can use that to publish your EF database changes.

Building and starting a web role in Visual Studio with a specific URL

I have an Azure service containing a web role. Both configured to run on IIS Server locally. I would like to build/deploy and start the web role in a specific URL in Visual Studio. It always ends up in addresses using 127.0.0.1 even I specify what project URL is in the project configuration. Is there any way to change this something like dev.xxx.com?
You're running through the local emulator I assume. As such, the URL project settings won't apply. Just like if you deploy it to the cloud, you'll need some type of DNS forwarder or alias.

WebApi Deployed to Azure - Controllers Don't Work (500 Error)

I have a WebApi project that wraps the Dynamics CRM Online web service and provides a REST api. I have a simple controller that gets some contacts from CRM and returns them to the caller.
Everything works fine when I run it in the local emulator. However, when I deploy the project to Azure, I can reach the home page, but the controllers all return http 500 errors. Why would this happen? And how can I troubleshoot to get more details?
UPDATE
The issue is with the absence of Microsoft.IdentityModel.dll on the Server 2012 instance running the web role in Azure. I found this by opening web role instance in RDP, installing Fiddler, and making the request from Fiddler to the local IIS server. It responded with the detailed error.
Now my issue is figuring out how to enable IdentityModel on a Windows Azure Web Role. You're supposed to be able to add it via the Server 2012 Add Roles and Features wizard, but it's totally locked down on the Web Role. You can't check any boxes that aren't already checked. Is this even possible?
The issue is giving the Web Role access to Windows Identity Foundation when it's inherently not there. Marc Schweigert provides clear steps to do this here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/devkeydet/archive/2013/01/27/crm-online-amp-windows-azure-configuring-single-sign-on-sso.aspx
Go to the 23:00 mark of the video and you'll see the 4 necessary steps:
Reference Microsoft.IdentityModel.dll (need WIF SDK installed)
a. Set copy local = true
Create RegisterWIFGAC.cmd in your web role project
Create Startup Task in ServiceDefinition.csdef that invokes RegisterWIFGAC.cmd
Add GacUtil to the project (used in the startup task) to put Microsoft.IdentityModel.dll in the GAC every time the web role starts).

azure web application not working from azure--no errors

I created a webapplication using Visual Studio2010 MVC3 .I am able to run this application successfully on my computer emulator. Then I deployed this to azure and is not working.I cant see any errors .The only message I can see on screen is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage " .Any suggestions?
By default, the MVC3 template sets up session state management via SQL Express (you can verify this by looking at web.config). This works great locally but not in Windows Azure, since SQL Express won't be running there. Just change your database connection to point to SQL Azure (or disable session state) and hopefully you'll be back up and running again.
Nate Totten wrote a bit more on this topic, here.
I think it's some connection problem, not your code problem since you got the "internet explorer cannot display the website".
I would suggest you RDC to your VM and open the IIS and browse your website, to check if the deployment is correct. And then you can try to go to your website from you machine by the VIP instead of its domain name. For example http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/ instead of http://yourwebsite.cloudapp.net/. If it works then I think you'd better recreate the hosted service and have another try.
