I'm using SerilogMetrics's BeginTimedOperation() in a Web API, and it would be really great to be able to use the HttpRequestNumber or HttpRequestId properties (from the respective Serilog.Extra.Web enrichers) as the identifier, making it super easy to correlate timing-related log entries with others across a request.
Something like:
using (logger.BeginTimedOperation("doing some work", HttpRequestNumberEnricher.CurrentRequestNumber))
{ ... }
Short of poking around in HttpContext.Current for the magically- (i.e. non-public) named properties, is this achievable? Thanks!
If you begin a timed operation during a web request, the operation's events will already be tagged with the HttpRequestId.
You'll see it when logging to a structured log server like Seq, but if you're writing it out to a text file or trace then the property won't be included in the output message by default. To show it in there use something like:
.WriteTo.File(...,
outputTemplate: "{Timestamp} [{Level}] ({HttpRequestId}) {Message} ...")
The logging methods use a default template you can draw on for inspiration, and there's some info spread around the wiki though there's no definitive reference.

For context, I'm someone with zero experience in Ruby - I just asked my Senior Dev to copy-paste me some of his Ruby code so I could try to work with some APIs that he ended up putting off because he was too busy.
So I'm using an API wrapper called zoho_hub, used as a wrapper for Zoho APIs (https://github.com/rikas/zoho_hub/blob/master/README.md).
My IDE is VSCode.
I execute the entire length of the code, and I'm faced with this:
[Done] exited with code=0 in 1.26 seconds
The API is supposed to return a paginated list of records, but I don't see anything outputted in VSCode, despite the fact that no error is being reflected. The last 2 lines of my code are:
ZohoHub.connection.get 'Leads'
p "testing"
I use the dummy string "testing" to make sure that it's being executed up till the very end, and it does get printed.
This has been baffling me for hours now - is my response actually being outputted somewhere, and I just can't see it??
Ruby does not print anything unless you tell it to. For debugging there is a pretty printing method available called pp, which is decent for trying to print structured data.
In this case, if you want to output the records that your get method returns, you would do:
pp ZohoHub.connection.get 'Leads'
To get the next page you can look at the source code, and you will see the get request has an additional Hash parameter.
def get(path, params = {})
Then you have to read the Zoho API documentation for get, and you will see that the page is requested using the page param.
Therefore we can finally piece it together:
pp ZohoHub.connection.get('Leads', page: NNN)
Where NNN is the number of the page you want to request.
For handling entities in Drupal I'm using Entity Metadata Wrappers (the "Drupal way").
It's really easy to start coding and see all the advantages it has... except when you get a fatal error and you are not clear where it comes from.
This is what the database log shows:

Sadly, many times that "field_whatever" is "nid", "uid" or some very common property, so it's name is spread all over my code, which makes me difficult to get to the origin of the error.
I'm currently doing this:
Write a tiny piece of code and then run to see if something fails.
Using getPropertyInfo when handling entities with "not so common" fields.
Loosing hair.
What is worst is that sometimes the error does not appear when you are coding, but a week later. So it could be anywhere...
Is there any way of handling entity metadata wrapper errors better? Can I get better information in the database log and not just a line? A backtrace maybe?

Well, having the devel module active (just to see the nice krumo message) we can do something like this inside our module:

That will return the backtrace error of the exception thrown by the entity metadata handler on the next page load (some page in your site where everything is running fine).
Also you can set the exception handler exclusively and more elegant just for some pages or some users with some role... or when some parameter in the url is met, or when in some state of your Drupal site is met (ex. when a bool persistent variable 'exception_with_trace' is true). Even, under certain conditions and control, you can use it in production too.
If the site does not work "at all" you can include it in your settings.php file, but instead of printing the trace, you must write the trace to a file and watch the trace in a different context (not Drupal but some php file).
If exceptions are too long and are causing memory problems then getting the trace as string is also possible. See http://php.net/manual/es/exception.gettraceasstring.php

I am debugging though a wcf service. I have a service attached and debugging along with the exe. During the process, I get unsupported format name operation error when initializing queues with strings. However, I am pretty sure and double checked that the strings are of correct syntax, and I have all the permission and access to the queues.
RequestQueue = new System.Messaging.MessageQueue(correctString);

There are a couple of different formats that can be specified in the MessageQueue constructor, that use differing syntax, depending on if they are public/ private queues, dead-letter-queues, journal queues, and so on.
For example:
Public queue: MachineName\QueueName
Private queue: MachineName\Private$\QueueName
Can you post an example of what you are using?
Also, if you are using an Format Name, check the spelling of your format string:
FormatName:DIRECT=OS:YOURMACHINENAME\private$\YourQueueName
Please note that the first part FormatName:DIRECT is case-sensitive. (More in-depth documentation about the syntax can be found in the MSDN here: Direct Format Names)

I am using an Assign to put the above expression in a variable.
Notice the line:

xmlns:q3="http://www.camstar.com/WebService/DataTypes" needs to be before q3:type="OnlineQuery_Info" for the other service to be called successfully otherwise the service call fails.
In the development it looks fine. I can test the assign of expression as well.
When I go to the OSB console to test the service I notice that in the Assign variable the namespace place switches and it becomes like this:

This makes the service calls to fail. I have tried putting the body payload in an xslt. Result is the same. I am not sure why it switches the type before namespace. The end result is that the service is not working as expected.
Any idea what I can do to fix this issue. How can I prevent the switching?

I haven't found any settings in OSB that can prevent reordering of attributes for you. However, the above OSB behavior is completely XML standard compliant. In fact, the target service side should be XML compliant and treat the two variants mentioned above as the same, because according to XML standard, tow XML documents with only difference in attribute ordering should be treated as the same.

Specify the business service to invoke in 'Text as Request' mode, as "CamstarLotQuery/business/CSWSShopFloor_Txt" shown below:
Manipulate messages as text, not XML, in your proxy service, as specified in "CamstarLotQuery/proxy/CamstarLotQueryTxt_Txt":
You might need to specify a SOAP Action in http header when calling a business service, depending on the target service.
One solution i can think of is to assign all the namespaces at the Parent Tag Level, and keep the attributes where they are applicable.
Example:

I am trying to implement a custom web resource using jquery/ajax and odata. I ran into trouble and eventually found that when I call:

The code throws exceptions.
However, when I change serverUrl to the literal url, it works. I then found forum posts that said I should verify my .aspx page manually by going to https://[org url]//WebResources/ClientGlobalContext.js.aspx to verify that it is working. When I did that I received a warning page:

Hard to tell outside of context (pun not intended) of your code, but why aren't you doing this?
var serverUrl = Xrm.Page.context.getServerUrl();
(Presumably, because you have defined your own context var?)
Also, this method is deprecated as of Rollup 12, see here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d7d0b052-abca-4f81-9b86-0b9dc5e62a66. You can now use getClientUrl instead.
