Video Recording to Network/Server - macos

We've got a lecture series that runs regularly and they usually only want 10-15 minutes recorded a week. I'm looking for a solution where I can install a go-pro or some other camera in the classroom and control it remotely on my mac. Be nice to if I could somehow have that video saved to our server.

It depends which GoPro you get. The newer ones can wirelessly transfer to an iOs device (you have osx tagged so I assume this is what you want to do) and since you want to control it remotely on a mac anyway, it'll be easy to edit and upload to your server from there.

Remote Desktop for Mac - issue with JavaFX app - PDFBOX

I have written a JavaFX app running on Windows 10 machine in the office which has problems showing (painting/rendering) certain embedded controls such as a Pane with PdfBox when I connect to it with Remote Desktop for Mac. It shows only a black screen in the app instead of the pdf document.
When I connect using RDP from my Windows 10 machine at home to my Windows 10 machine at work, the app works just fine (the pdf is shown in the app).
I have the same problems using AnyDesk and Teamviewer.
The app only shows PDFs properly using a connection from Windows 10 to Windows 10 with Microsoft RDP.
It might be a JavaFX issue. Similar issues are described here (although not 100% identical):
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8239589
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8229394
However, since I guess Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac is using the same technology as the Windows Desktop client, I would have expected it to work fine.
I have a Mac Mini M1 running the latest OS (Monterey) at the time of writing this post. I am also using the latest Remote Desktop client for Mac.
This problem is not new and was also present in older releases.
I have tried to play around with screen resolutions, both on Host and Client but nothing good came out of those tests.
Disabled also hardware acceleration in Remote Desktop for Mac preferences but it didn't change anything.
The machine at the office has the following specs (which I cannot change nor update)
Edizione Windows 10 Pro
Versione 20H2
Data installazione: ‎10/‎09/‎2021
Build sistema operativo 19042.1415
Esperienza Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
Anyone else who has seen this problem and perhaps resolved it?
Could it be a bug in either PdfBox or Remote Desktop for Mac?
Except for the above issue, the Remote Desktop Client for Mac is working great (not lagging as TeamViewer or AnyDesk) and the user experience is phenomenal.
PS: While this might be considered a programming question (since I wrote the app with JavaFX) but it might be better to post on another forum? If yes, which one? On the other hand, many similar posts (look at the suggested thread on the right) have been upvoted despite not dealing with programming issues.
Thanks.
How do you use PDFBox? I ask because this is not a JavaFX component. If you use a SwingNode for that it might be interesting to try one of my two PDFViewer demos here and see whether the problem persists.

The difference is in how I do the rendering and maybe that makes a difference for your use-case too. But of course this is just a wild guess and I can't promise anything.

Camera device on MAC OS

Having my webcam plugged in, I'm able to manipulate the video/audio stream in my MAC OS app.
Now I'd like to output it as a new virtual video/audio device that I can select as a camera input in apps like "Skype" or QuickTime.
I've looked into i/o kit framework and the reference webpage says this:
"To add digital video capabilities to your software, use the QuickTime
APIs."
I believe this needs to be updated because QuickTime APIs have been replaced by CoreMedia IO.
So I looked into CoreMediaIO and found a sample code from Apple dev website that also is obsolete and won't run on XCode 7.x with OS Yosemite+.
I've also looked in AVFoundation but it seems like a dead end.
I'm lost at this point. I know it's doable since CamTwist software is doing it.
Anyone has an idea how to approach this?
CoreMediaIO is definitely the way to go, as that's what Apple currently uses in its hardware. On my system (2015 rMBP), /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ contains AppleCamera.plugin and iOSScreenCapture.plugin, for the webcam and capturing from iDevice.
I assume the example you're referring to is this one?
It doesn't quite compile out of the box, but I got it to build with the OSX 10.11 SDK eventually. You need Apple's Core Audio Utility Classes, point the 'Sources/Extras/CoreAudio/PublicUtility' group in the Xcode project at those, and then fix a variable initialisation (remove the = NULL where it complains about a private constructor) and comment out a few lines in SamplePrefix.h. I haven't run it, but I see no reason why it wouldn't. If you don't have a kext signing certificate, you may need to take steps to load unsigned kexts to run the sample.
Is your webcam using the old video-digitaizer driver (driver .component file is located in /Library/QuickTime)? I was able to see my UVC-camera and DAL camera in QuickTime player. My understanding is that Apps written in AVFoundation will not recongize old vdig driver. On the contrary, Apps written using Sequence Grabber (very old) / QTCapture (old) will recongize your device.
Hope this helps.

Difference in behavior between Xcode and OTA Ad-hoc distribution

I have my app working to my satisfaction both in the simulator and on two devices when debugging through Xcode 4.3.2. I use OTA Ad-hoc distribution to send to my beta testers. After archiving, saving, and uploading my ipa and plist file to my website, I then download and successfully install the app on my phone.
Sounds good, right?
HOWEVER, I am using CoreAudio and CoreData, and low and behold suddenly there is no sound in my app. I delete and install OTA on the same devices I am debugging with, so I am at a loss to where the problem is occurring.
I have a feeling that there might be an underlying problem with my Core Data model (which feeds my sound) but checks upon checks seem to verify that it is working. It DOES work when I install from Xcode, unplug, close, and reopen the app on the device. Only the OTA install has this problem.
Has anyone encountered any differences in behavior like this? I checked my build settings and the only difference I see for AdHoc is using the Entitlements.plist, which only useful setting appears to be NO to debugging.

Accessing iOS filesystem for Mac

I was trying out the mac app DiskAid and found it does everything that I need to be able to do in the app I am writing. DiskAid appears to have complete access to the filesystem on my iPad. This is not limited to the shared files by the applications on the iPad - not by a long shot. DiskAid sees all the files for every app on the device (sharer or otherwise). It is also not limited to files in the Documents directory for each app. It sees all files down to root level.
I was also amazed when I discovered that iTunes doesn't even have to be running for all of this to work. Also I don't recall having to authenticate in any way (apple ID or anything like that) I just plug in the device via usb and away she goes.
I've been searching for days now and have not found anything that even hints that this is even possible. Yet we know it is.
Does anyone have any idea how they are pulling this off. By the way my device is not jailbroken.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
There is info DigiDNA blog that what they use is Apple Mobile Device Service library, which they say function as driver to Apple device. A google search to the library brought me to the Iphone Wiki site about reverse engineered C header files needed to link to the library. Hope it will be useful.

Develop iPhone application remotely?

4 java developers are new to iPod Touch/iPhone app development. They have an idea for an app. They have never used Xcode or Macs before.
Instead of spending money for a new iMac or Mac Mini for each of them, my boss would like to sell them a $999 Apple server, hosted at a facility connected a single T1 line, and have all 4 people work remotely in Xcode.
Is this feasible? Is anyone doing anything like this? Specifically, is 1 T1 enough for realistic remote app development?
Would they have to work in black & white via Logmein or Gotomeeting to get decent speed?
Can four people work remotely together on an Xcode project at the same time?
Do they absolutely need their own Macs to connect their iPod Touches or iPhones physically to, or can they connect to their existing PCs with iTunes and install their in-development apps that way?

I don't think there is such a things as "realistic remote app development".
Would they have to work in black & white via Logmein or Gotomeeting to get decent speed?
Does their health care plan cover migraine?

You can work with multiple people on one project, but only if each has their own copy of Xcode on their own Mac.

You need to have the devices connected to the Mac running Xcode in order to debug. Not debugging on the device is not really an option. You can do some debugging on the iPhone Simulator, but certainly not all.
If you cannot produce a business case for getting a mac mini for each developer I don't think you will make enough money for the business to be worth it - (including paying enough to the programmers)
The lowest entry cost is a Mac Mini for each developer, plus the cost of at least one iPod Touch/iPhone plus the $99 per year that Apple charges to load software onto the device.
What your boss is proposing is simply not feasible and quite unrealistic. It's also frankly insulting to the developers.
If cost is that much of an issue, buy second-hand or refurbished.
Check http://macminicolo.net/dayone for remote development using jenkins etc. in a Mac mini hosting infrastructure.
