I downloaded PTVS RC today and installed it. After restarting VS, there was an error about importing Python Tools that said the following and solutions were not being loaded:
No exports were found that match the constraint
Based on this post here at SO, i renamed my ComponentModelCache file. Now although VS loads old solutions, all I see is an Attach button and no Run/Debug button. For new projects, it works fine. I am using Visual Studio 2013 Professional Edition. Any help?
It seems like the issue is not with PTVS RC. Although I had only 1 project in my solution, all I had to do was set the startup Project. This can be done by right-clicking on the solution. Once the startup project is set, the solution is good to run.

Since some days the feature files are broken.
VS2017:
Colors dissapeard, everything is white.
When I press F12 nothing happens.
When I run the test from solution explorer the tests work fine.
VS2015:
Everything works fine.
What I tried to do:
Option 1: Run Binding Tool
Right-click on the feature file
Select "Run Custom Tool"
This causes the SpecFlowSingleFileGenerator to regenerate the code-behind for your test framework.
Option 2: Restart Visual Studio
Close Visual Studio
Open Visual Studio
Reopen solution
This causes any bindings that haven't been cached to rerun.
Option 3: Clear SpecFlow Step Mapping Cache
Close Visual Studio
Open Windows Explorer
Type %TEMP% in Address Bar and hit Enter
Search for "specflow-stepmap-*.cache"
Delete those files
Open Visual Studio
Reopen solution
Option4: Uninstall and reinstall visual studio 2017
None of them fixes the issues for VS2017.
Some help is more than welcome.
I solved this issue by updating VS2017 to v15.6.1. Prior to that I've tried all the steps you mentioned and it did not work.
Also, found this article: https://github.com/techtalk/SpecFlow/issues/1049 which is saying the same.
These symptoms sound like you haven't installed Specflow extension on your VisualStudio 2017.
What happens when you dont have it is that VS can't work with feature files and can't navigate to anything when pressing F12.
Tests are working because VisualStudio executes already generated NUnit tests from feature.cs files.
Double check your VisualStudio Tools -> Extensions And Updates -> Check in Installed if you have Specflow for Visual Studio 2017 installed and Enabled.
Note: Each time you install a new Visual Studio you have to install the extension.
Came across the same issue, installed Specflow for Visual Studio 2017 from Tools >> Extensions And Updates and found as working fine.
Go the colours for feature file lines back and F12 is working fine.
Thanks.
I've been working on a C# MVC application in VS2015 with no problems. Recently I've upgraded to VS2017. I opened the same project in VS2017, but whenever I try to run it, I get the exact same error verbatim as described in
this question VS2017: The debugger is not properly installed. Cannot debug the requested type of code
I've followed every single piece of advice in that thread. I've also performed a repair on my installation - but none of the suggestions worked for me.
It's August now, so I wonder if anything has changed and if there is a solution now.
I have a feeling the problem is probably due to the differences between VS2015 and VS2017 - this was originally something built in VS2015 after all.
I also had issues few months ago when i upgraded VS2015 to VS2017 and one of my big project that i was running on visual studio 2015 stopped working. That project had seveleral class libraries and DLLs added. VS2017 asked me to installed required libraries/ddl one by one, which i did and still didn't work.
So what I did was, Uninstalled the upgraded version of visual studio 2017 and re-installed the complete visual studio 2017 from MSDN website (selecting the default selection of features). And then i loaded my Project in VS2017 fresh copy and it worked.
I suggest you to try the same
Symptoms
Visual Studio syntax highlighter and Intellisense for Javascript and Razor views are not working.
There is no Web templates installed when creating a new project.
When I try to uninstall the web developer feature:
Add or remove Programs > Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2015 > Modify
Microsoft Web Developer Tools is always checked. Even when I uncheck it and uninstall it, then restart the computer; the next time I still see it's checked:
What I did to solve this:
Running devenv.exe \resetuserdata Command to reset the user data.
Running devenv.exe \installtemplates to install the templates.
Repairing the Visual Studio.
Trying to uninstall and re-install the Web Developer Tools feature through the Visual Studio installer.
None have worked so far.
What I guess
I think Visual Studio thinks this feature is installed (through some registry keys probably) but the files are actually not installed.
Because whenever I try to Modify the installation of Visual Studio, the Microsof Web Developer Tools check box is not checked for the first second, then it is checked again after 1 second.
Question
Any suggestion on fixing this without uninstalling Visual Studio itself?
I was having the same problem and this is what worked for me:
Uninstall ASP.NET Web Tools from Control Panel
Download and install "Microsoft ASP.NET and Web Tools" extension from: https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/c94a02e9-f2e9-4bad-a952-a63a967e3935
Try this (in order):
Find Microsoft ASP.NET 5 RC1 ... in control panel / programs &
select modify
Select repair
Run devenv.exe /installvstemplates as administrator
Run VS as administrator
I had the same problem with Visual Studio 2015. I tried several things, but simply updating Microsoft ASP.NET seemed to do the trick.
Install ASP.NET 5 RC1, restart, and the issue should be resolved.
I didn't know I had this problem until I opened an MVC project with Razor views and didn't have syntax highlighter and Intellisense. I was lucky to read your question because the symptoms are the same and so is the conclusion. And unfortunately none of the answers solves the problem. But it did help me to find the answer, or what worked for me.
What did the trick was installing .NET Core 1.0.0 (DotNetCore.1.0.0.RC2-Runtime-x64 and DotNetCore.1.0.0.RC2-VS2015Tools.Preview1). I am pretty sure that this is enough to solve the issue. But since I tried all kinds of things, it is possible that another action is required. In that case, continue reading below the images.
When I start a new project this opens the following dialog:
Selecting ASP.NET Web Application (.NET Framework) opens the dialog with the projects I was looking for.
The syntax highlighter and Intellisense are also working for Razor views.
I do not know what caused the problem in the first place. Is the installation incomplete, is there a conflict with other software or did I do something that caused this?
Visual Studio 2012 is installed on my machine as well. I installed and uninstalled VS2015 (pro and community version) and then installed vs2015 Community on multiple volumes. On uninstalling I did use /Force and removed several folders manually.
Microsoft ASP.NET 5 RC Update 1 is also installed, but repairing this did not solve the issue. Also installing Asp.Net Web Framework tools 2015 didn't change anything. I copied templates to all template folders I could find (perhaps an issue with installing on multiple volumes?), ran devenv.exe with different parameters and deleted the '14' folder in my profile. None of this worked. Finally I installed .NET Core 1.0.0.
i came across this weird problem and don't seem to find a solution for it.
the problem is....
my OS crashed and i had to reinstall XP and VS 2005 again....but
when i tried to open my solution (which was created using visual studio 2005) in VS 2005 it gives me the following error:
The application for project 'D:\VSS\SomeSolution\SomeProj\SomeEntityLayer\SomeEntityLayer.csproj' is not installed.
Make sure the application for the project type (.csproj) is installed.
Please help
Did you check that the project exists in the location mentioned. I think it is something to do with the folder where your project is locatted.
Got the problem,
Visual studio 2005 was not installed properly with the required components.
Once i did that everything went perfect !
thanks any ways!!
tc : )
I'm using Visual C# 2010 Express RTM with Windows Phone Developer Tools April CTP Refresh and when I run any Build option, nothing happens. I've deleted the contents of the build output folders and that doesn't do anything. I can't even run the project, because it complains the executable is missing (XNA Game for Windows project). I've tried the project on another computer and it builds just fine. Any ideas?
I'm not sure how this happens, but here's how I fixed it:
Open Build -> Configuration Manager
In the "Platform" column, choose x86 instead of Any CPU
Click close
These exact steps may not work for you, but I've found that if you play around in the Configuration Manager window it will usually resolve this problem.
try a reinstall?
Visual Studio 2010 doesn't work with current versions of XNA Studio. You'll could wait until XNA Studio 4 comes out (apparently due this month).
To solve your issue, use Visual Studio 2008 or use the workaround at this link to continue using VS2010 and XNA.
