Xcode Playground spaces taken away? - xcode

Someone please help!! The fact that these upside down brackets are taking the space between my words are annoying.
It looks like this...
_var_five_=_5

In Xcode, use the Editor menu and Hide Invisibles.

Is there any way to scroll beyond the last line in xcode?

I ask if there is any way to scroll beyond the last line in xcode, because I always end up pressing a lot of enters to the end of my files, so that I don't have to always type my code at the bottom of my window.
I have skimmed through the properties panel of XCode, and had a look at this forum. So far the answer looks negative, but I kept my hopes up. :)
Any ideas for tricking XCode to scroll beyond the last line? (I have XCode 4.5.2)
There is now a plugin for that !
Have a look at SCXcodeEditorInset !
Dont think there is a way to do this but if you are trying to edit the buttom of the code while having it near the top of your display, you can click the middle view button in xcode to bring up the console/watcher and then drag that up to the desirable spot. This does decrease the overall space of your editor but can sometimes be useful if you prefer this or just need to do that temporarily
What I do is, When you finished typing at the bottom, before you go to top, type some unnecessary code "asdf" as error then go where you want. you can come back clicking on top right red error panel.

add try catch around highlighted code

I'm refactoring some code and there are tons of functions with no try catch statements that are causing problems.
Is there a keyboard shortcut in VS 2010 to allow me to select an entire function or highlighted code and add a try catch end try statement around it...with the highlighted code automatically ending up under try ?
Just looking for a shortcut
I'm not aware of a keyboard short-cut, but there's a right-click available.
Highlight the code for your try block.
Right click and select
"Surround with..." Scroll down the selection until you see the "try"
snippet label.
There you go!
Hope this helps!
I'll dig around to see if there's a keyboard short cut for this. There probably is -- there's hundreds of them.
UPDATE: Looks like the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + K, Ctrl + S.
Download this free addon and then right click and surround with !
(Don't forget to give it 1+ )

It's not built in, but it is easy enough to roll your own.
Look into using the built in macro facility.
2023 Update
they added this functionality, but only for JS/TS... Let's hope they add this also for other languages like python soon!

Xcode : shortcut for highlight feature

I recently started using Xcode for developing. It's pretty neat. By accident I happened to see one of its features. The feature only highlights the block of code I am currently working on. Other codes are covered with light grey. I do not know how to get that effect again. Can anybody help? Thanks!
You probably hovered your mouse over the line number bar like this:
You may be referring to the "focus ribbon" on the left side between the code and line numbers.
Refer to: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/ToolsLanguages/Conceptual/Xcode4UserGuide/Editing/Editing.html
(Figure 3-10)
This is called Code Folding Focus.
If you want to turn it ON or OFF as you please, do as follows in Xcode/Preferences:
Then, assign the key of your fits.

Xcode hot key for 'tab'

I want to ask a stupid question. Can Xcode like be the Visual studio, when I highlight the word and press the 'tab' key, the highlighted word will go to the right side and have a 'tab' space, but I am not able to do this in Xcode, do I need to set something? Thank you.
In Xcode, use Command-] to increase indent, and Command-[ to decrease indent.
The combination I think you are looking for is cmd+right. This will move which ever line you are one one tab in. Cmd+left will move it back one. Your caret can be anywhere on the line.
Edit: Obviously far too early in the morning for me. By right I meant ], and left [.

Xcode 3.2 find and replace in selected text

Is it possible to find and replace in selected text in Snow Leopard Xcode 3.2? There always use to be an option for selected text. Really frustrating. Thanks.
Yeah, but it's a lot less obvious now. If you have the "Find" bar up, change the first dropdown menu to "Find & Replace". Then, if you hold option, the "Replace All" button turns into an "In Selection" button.
You can press Command+Ctrl+F to bring up directly the Find & Replace bar, and press Escape to remove it. I don't think there's anyway to activate the "Replace All" button using the keyboard, but then again there never was afaik.
In XCode 5 and earlier you can highlight a word and hit CMD+CTRL+E and then simply edit the word in line and it applies your edit to all occurrences of that word in the document.
Sometimes an image helps make things a little easier to grasp quickly. So this is to supplement the chosen answer.
And holding down Option:
