Weighted keywords on elasticsearch document - elasticsearch

I want to create an index in elasticsearch that has a field of weighted keywords list, so when I search by term in this keywords - it will give better scores to those documents that has this key with higher weight?
For instance:
Doc1

Doc2

"keywords" : "house"(3), "dog"(40)
I want when searching "dog" to get doc2 with higher score.
How would you build the mapping and the query?
Note that it's different than searching with regular boost, as the boost per each term is different per document.

What about Elasticsearch payloads? See DrTech's answer with the delimited payload token filter to a separate unrelated question which might help you out. But, what you are describing seems to very much lend itself to the use of payloads and using script scoring to access these payloads and influence the scoring. Take note of the performance cost he mentions.

Elastic search giving strange results

I am following this tutorial on elastic search.
Two employees have 'about' value as:
"about": "I love to go rock climbing"
"about": "I like to collect rock albums"
I run following query:
GET /megacorp/employee/_search {"query":{"match":{"about":"rock coll"}}}
Both above entries are returned, but surprisingly wit same score:
"_score": 0.2876821
Shouldn't the second one must have higher score as it has 'about' value containing both 'rock' and 'coll' while first one only contains 'rock'?
That totally depends on what analyzer you are using. if you are using standard or english analyzer this result is correct. I recommend you to spend some time working with elasticsearch's Analyze API to get familiar how each analyzer affect your text.

When we search on a full-text field, we need to pass the query string through the same analysis process as we have when we index a document, to ensure that we are searching for terms in the same form as those that exist in the index.
Analysis process usually consists of normalization and tokenization (the string is tokenized into individual terms by a tokenizer).
As for match Query:
If you run a match query against a full-text field, it will analyze the query string by using the correct analyzer for that field before executing the search. It just looks for the words that are specified.
So, in your match query Elasticsearch will look for occurrences of the whole separate words: rock or/and coll.
Your 2nd document doesn't contain a separate word coll but was matched by the word rock.
Conclusion: the 2 documents are equivalent in their _score value (they were matched by the same word rock)
Elasticsearch analyzes each text field before storing it. The default analyzer (standard analyzer) splits the text based on whitespaces and lowercases it. The output of analysis process is a list of tokens which are used to match your query tokens. If any of the tokens match exactly the relevant document is returned. That's being said, your second document doesn't contain the token col and that's why you are having the same score for both documents.
Even if you build your custom analyzer and use stemming, the word collect won't be stemmed as coll.
You can build custom analyzers in which you can specify that tokens should be of length 1 character, then Elasticsearch will consider each single character as a token and you can search for the existence of any character in your documents.

Elasticsearch - use a "tags" index to discover all tags in a given string

I have an elasticsearch v2.x cluster with a "tags" index that contains about 5000 tags: {tagName, tagID}. Given a string, is it possible to query the tags index to get all tags that are found in that string? Not only do I want exact matches, but I also want to be able to control for fuzzy matches without being too generous. By too generous, a tag should only match if all tokens in the tag are found within a certain proximity of each other (say 5 words).
For example, given the string:
Model 22340 Sound Spectrum Analyzer
The following tags should match:
sound analyzer sound spectrum analyzer
BUT NOT
sound meter light spectrum chemical analyzer
I don't think it's possible to create an accurate elasticsearch query that will auto-tag a random string. That's basically a reverse query. The most accurate way to match a tag to a document is to construct a query for the tag, and then search the document. Obviously this would be terribly inefficient if you need to iterate over each tag to auto-tag a document.
To do a reverse query, you want to use the Elasticsearch Percolator API:

The API is very flexible and allows you to create fairly complex queries into documents with multiple fields.
The basic concept is this (assuming your tags have an app specific ID field):
For each tag, create a query for it, and register the query with the percolator (using the tag's ID field).
To auto-tag a string, pass your string (as a document) to the Percolator, which will match it against all registered queries.
Iterate over the matches. Each match includes the _id of the query. Use the _id to reference the tag.

If you want an equal match so that "sound meter" will not match you will have to add another field for each tag containing the terms count in the tag name, add a script to count the terms in the query and add a comparison of the both in the match_query, see: Finding Multiple Exact Values.
Regarding the proximity issue: Since you require "Fuzzyness" you cannot control the proximity because the "match_phrase" query is not integrated with Fuzzyness, as stated by Elastic docs Fuzzy-match-query:
Fuzziness works only with the basic match and multi_match queries. It doesn’t work with phrase matching, common terms, or cross_fields matches.
so you need to decide: Fuzzyness vs. Proximity.
Of course you can. You can achieve what you want to get using only just match query with standard analyzer.

elasticsearch scoring on multiple indexes

i have an index for any quarter of a year ("index-2015.1","index-2015.2"... )
i have around 30 million documents on each index.
a document has a text field ('title')
my document sorting method is (1)_score (2)created date
the problem is:
when searching for some text on on 'title' field for all indexes ("index-201*"), always the first results is from one index.
lets say if i am searching for 'title=home' and i have 10k documents on "index-2015.1" with title=home and 10k documents on "index-2015.2" with title=home then the first results are all documents from "index-2015.1" (and not from "index-2015.2", or mixed) even that on "index-2015.2" there are documents with "created date" higher then in "index-2015.1".
is there a reason for this?
The reason is probably, that the scores are specific to the index. So if you really have multiple indices, the result score of the documents will be calculated (slightly) different for each index.
Simply put, among other things, the score of a matching document is dependent on the query terms and their occurrences in the index. The score is calculated in regard to the index (actually, by default even to each separate shard). There are some normalizations elasticsearch does, but I don't know the details of those.
I'm not really able to explain it well, but here's the article about scoring. I think you want to read at least the part about TF/IDF. Which I think, should explain why you get different scores.

So, after testing it a bit on my machine, it seems possible to use another search_type, to achieve a score suitable for your case.

The important part is search_type=dfs_query_then_fetch. If you are programming java or something similar, there should be a way to specify it in the request. For details about the search_types, refer to the documentation.
Basically it will first collect the term-frequencies on all affected shards (+ indexes). Therefore the score should be generalized over all these.

How can I search for related words in elasticsearch?

For example, if I search for "food," I want to return results that include any entry that has keyword "Restaurant" or "Chef" or something like that.
I think you need the "synonyms" feature of Elasticsearch: http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/current/using-synonyms.html
You define a list of words that you believe are synonyms (in your example - food, restaurant, chef) and then, at indexing time, ES will index not only "restaurant" for example, but also "food" and "chef". See more details about this in the link above.

Combining Elastic Search Queries

I am using Elasticsearch and would like to combine 2 sets of query results into one query if possible.
I am using 3 fields for this.
First query is that I want just 5 results that have the field "featured" to be the value "1" but also fuzzy match the term "seo" in fields "title" and "description".
Then I want the remainder of results that just fuzzy match the term "seo" in fields "title" and "description" with the featured to be "0".
I am unsure if the limit 5 can be used. Any ideas anyone. If you need more information please let me know.

Consider merging this two queries into one bool query with "should" clause.
