Spring Batch Could not obtain last_insert_id(); nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Lock wait timeout exceeded; - spring

I am using spring batch 3.0.5.RELEASE on MySQL database.
I have a job which reads from multiple tables and process the records and mark their status after completion. The job data is designed in such a way that multiple instances of the same job can run without stepping on each others toes..(They have there own data set to work with)
I have following job repository configuration.

I tries following so far.
Increasing the lock wait time in DB.
Changed the sequence table's type from InnoDB to MyISAM. After changing the type to MyISAM all jobs started failing. However for different exception.
Set the transaction isolation level for job repository to ISOLATION_READ_COMMITTED
Nothing from above helped so far. Please share your thoughts on this.

Please check which DB you are using. If you are using MySQL, then in context.xml file, databaseType should be mysql. I'm using postgresql, so I have used postgres. Accepted databaseType formats are as follows

Springboot Application fails after database restart

We have developed a Springboot Java application and using 1.5.6 version. Using spring data jpa and provided custom implementation as well.
If I restart DB and execute some operation then it throws an below error for the services which are annotated with #Transactional annotation. Though, its working well for other DAO repository call which are not annotated with this annotation. Also, if I restart my spring boot application then it works fine.

This is likely because all the connections in your connection pool are broken after restarting the database. I can't really explain why it doesn't happen with other methods, but maybe it's just a timing issue, where the connections get closed and reopened after they failed once.
If my suspicion is correct setting testOnBorrow to true should solve the issue. This answer describes how to do that in Spring Boot:

Custom Exception translator not invoked in Hibernate/Spring

I have written code to handle a specific Oracle error code. I extend the LocalSessionFactoryBean to implement additional logic to the session factory creation.

It is declared in XML as the primary SessionFactory bean and works as it.
I have read this question, but the difference is that I use SessionFactory rather than EntityManager. I think my setup is fine in order to take advantage of persistence exception translator. Also, my DAOs are annotated #Repository
Unfortunately whenever I get a transaction serialization from Oracle, and only from Oracle, I get it propagated through all the stack trace. I could debug and LSFB's translateExceptionIfPossible method is never invoked.

The exception, as predictable, happens on #Transactional's commit phase. It is correct that the exception is thrown by JDBC to Hibernate, but should be translated by Spring using my code, so that Spring #Retry can replay the transaction again.
How do I get my custom exception translator working?
Found the culprit.
Such exception is thrown only at commit phase. My DAOs are annotated #Repository, but not #Transactional, so any operation will pass through DAO's #Repository annotation holding the exception translator interceptor without problems. When PlatformTransactionManager tries to commit, however, it is not decorated properly with a PersistenceExceptionTranslationAdvisor as shown in the stack trace.
HibernateTransactionManager only translates HibernateExceptions and PersistenceExceptions.
As I said in my question, I determined that Hibernate does not translate SQLException with those specific Oracle error codes to the correct subclass of HibernateException.
Solution 1 is to decorate services using DAOs with #Repository or solution 2 (our approach) to dispose of serialized transactions in favour of pessmistic row locks

Spring #Scheduled method Cannot Save with Spring Data JPA

SpringBoot 1.4.1.RELEASE is used. A simple task is create that runs every 5 seconds. It fetched data from database using Spring Data JPA, sends the data through an API and on success, updates send status in database using Spring Data JPA.

I had the same issue. Resolved it with including something like this in my #Repository interface:

Variable names and types could be different, but the important part was using the #Modifying and the #Query annotations.
It also assumes marking with #Transactional and #EnableScheduling. None of the entity manager flushing/merging or setting propagation/isolation on the transaction worked. Call that method instead of save().
As there is no answer that fixed my saving issue in #Scheduler self-invocation method, i decided to use JdbcTemplate which does work.
jdbcTemplate.update("UPDATE coop_member SET sync_status = ? WHERE member_id = ?", uMember.getSyncStatus(), uMember.getMemberId());
In my case i only want to update sync_status so it not alot of work.

Transactions issues with spring scheduler & spring batch item writer

I am trying to run a spring batch job using the #Scheduled annotation as follows:

I understand Spring batch manages the transactions and does not require a #Transactional / #EnableTransactionManagement. Why then do I get the above exception?
All samples I have found on the web use a ResourcelessTransactionManager (see https://www.mkyong.com/spring-batch/spring-batch-and-spring-taskscheduler-example) but I do need for my job executions to be persisted to database.
Can someone please help?

Following Michael Minella's advice of inspecting the configured beans (/beans endpoint), I noticed that the configured & declared Transaction Manager, named transactionManager is not of type JpaTransactionManager. See below:

So I configured a JpaTransactionManager as follows:

I have not used JPA in my batch writers so I am not sure what might be causing it but two pointers,
1.Do you really need this cron expression in scheduler?
* * * * * ?
Its like telling - keep launching new job instances all the time, without any break or am I missing something?
I think, you should try to introduce some time gap in between launches and change your cron expression accordingly.
2.There are questions on SO like this and as pointed in first answer, there might be a conflict in container managed and application managed transactions. I guess, you are running your job in some container too. Try to put relevant portions of writer code throwing exception.
