I have made a IoT beacon reading app. I am using DispatchTimer to get signal for 10 sec then processing it to retrieve some result. Everything is working fine if app is not minimized. but when app is minimized or I work on some other thing then App is not working at all. I have handle App suspended event but still on minimizing the app I am not able show the result.
To keep your app running when minimized, you need to create an ExtendedExecutionSession in your app. Read more details here:

I'm exploring the end user experience for a beacon prototype but I'm struggling to find any end-user scenarios that involve the app becoming active / opening up on the screen when within range.
I can get the app to send a notification and this is the most likely experience on both Android and iOS but does anyone know if it is possible to get the app to open up?
It's unlikely that I'd want real customers to have their experience interfered with in this way, I think it's ok if the app is already running and is open but not if it's running but not open.
Thanks
On Android this is possible. The reference app for the Android Beacon Library demonstrates how to do exactly this.
On iOS, it is not possible due to OS security restrictions. See here for details. The best you can do is send a local notification to the user when the beacon is detected, then if the user gestures to it, bring up the app.
I have made an app with live tile for windows phone 8. The tile is programmed to refresh every 30 seconds. When the run the app in the emulator or when I deploy the app in my cell (Lumia 920) the tile works fine. But surprisingly when I downloaded the same app from the market and run it on the same device the tile doesn't update.
I did quite a bit of research on this problem and found that a similar problem is observed by many other people which can be found here.
Kindly tell me what is going wrong.
Extra Info : I have tried resizing the tile, pin and unpin the tile and hard reset. I have also tried changing the refresh period (initially the refresh period was 5 seconds). I have also checked that the background task is allowed for the app.
Thanks,
Apurva Pathak
Background agents have certain limitations, as listed below.
Background tasks can minimally be run every 30 minutes. There is a debug-only API to run them more regularly, but this is not available for released apps.
Some low power devices do not support background agents
Background tasks are limited by number on each device and can be enabled or disabled from application settings.
They do not work when power saver mode is activated.
As Mahantesh correctly pointed out your tiles work when you deploy the application because the ScheduledActionService.LaunchForTest() is allowed to run for a 60 seconds period for debugging and testing purposes ONLY.
Therefore this method cannot be called and it wont work with a time limit less than 30 minutes if the application is published to the market and users download it from there.
My Windows Phone XNA game calls Guide.BeginShowKeyboardInput to get the user's name. While the Guide's input screen is shown, if the user presses the Home or Search (hardware) buttons, the game is deactivated as usual - but if the user then presses the Back (hardware) button, the game should resume but it doesn't. Instead it shows the "Resuming..." message until Windows Phone gives up trying to resume the game and kills the process.
Please note:
My app is failing Microsoft certification because of this problem - I really need to fix it!
This only happens in my game when the Guide input screen is shown - when it's not shown, the game
resumes properly after being deactivated.
This problem only occurs when the game is run on WP7.x (verified problem on WP7.5 and
WP7.8) - although the game seems to resume properly on WP8 devices.
I've created a blank XNA game project, called Guide.BeginShowKeyboardInput and tested it using WP7.x devices, and this problem-behavior doesn't occur.
I've tested the game without enabling Music & my Trial License manager (they use timers) and it still does this.
Exact same behavior occurs in the emulator (resume-failure on WP7.x emulators, works fine on WP8
emulator)
I used threads to asynchronously download content during the loading screen - but they already completed and exited.
I don't believe other threads are running, although this seems like
it could be a thread-blocking issue.
Any other ideas on what could be blocking the game from resuming when the Guide.IsVisible or how to debug/resolve this problem?
The solution to this issue was simply to NOT use SuppressDraw when dealing with any operation that passes control outside of the app, e.g. Launchers, Choosers and the Guide.
Have you tried calling "Guide.EndShowKeyboardInput" in either the Deactivating or closing events?
So that the guide is closed before the app suspends, you do get 10 seconds to suspend so this might be worth looking into.
If you want the guide to re-show on resume, then in your state saving code just have a flag and open the guide if it's set.
I have developed a windows phone application and it works fine when it is open and running actively.
It tracks the user movements on the map and shows the position moves with push pins.
Now I want to ensure that the same application runs even the phone is locked when this app was open.
I have added the below code for it to work under lock screen. After this when I verified the app I realized it is not running when the application is locked.
Is there any other change I need to make to get this work under lock screen.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
private void initiliazesettings()
{
PhoneApplicationService.Current.UserIdleDetectionMode =
IdleDetectionMode.Disabled;
}
To have your app running under lock screen on Windows Phone 7.0/7.1/8.0, you need to set ApplicationIdleDetectionMode, not UserIdleDetectionMode. See details here.
Supossing you placed the method in the right place, that code only keeps the screen on, but doesn't make your app run in background when the lock screen is activated. Windows Phone 7 apps cannot run in background, they get tombstoned.
For Windows Phone 8 this is possible - see the sample here from MSDN.
However for Windows Phone 7/7.1 you can't do this.
You can prevent the screen from locking due to the user not interacting with it (as your code shows). However if you manually lock the screen the app will still be made dormant or tombstoned and your location code won't run.
Your only other option is to use a scheduled background task to read the location of the phone, but bear in mind that this is far from real time data (it is a cached location and you only run once every 30 minutes in the best case scenario).
I try to add a Millennial ad in my application. I followed every step their wiki gives but it doesn't work on my WP7 emulator.
I'd like to know whether the mmdev ad works only with the real WP7 device? I think I filled in everything in the webpage of mmdev in order to register my app.
Is there someone who already face this problem?
I tried their SDK, even though they say you should wait 1 to 2 hours to activate the APPID of your app, I remember I waited for a day.
