"Scanning new and updated MEF components" - visual-studio

I can successfully reproduce the problem at will. Below is my steps:
Environment: windows 10 Professional 64bit
Run vs_community_ENU.exe to install
Choose the Microsoft web and Developer Tools
Let it done installing
Open it for the first time, I can see the ASP.NET Web Application
Close the Visual Studio
Open it up for the second time, it will show some upgrade: "Scanning new and updated MEF components..." and two or three more of
the undated
New project no long shows asp.net web application along with other templates
How can I fix this problem? I uninstalled and reinstalled it for 5 times already and the same thing happen again. I even installed VS2015.1.exe but nothing happened

Delete the contents of the following folder:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache

I had to delete the contents of %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\MEFCacheBackup
as well as
%localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ComponentModelCache
The deletion of both these folders sorted my issue :)

I found an answer. If I run "Blend for visual studio" shortcut then in the new project, there is no asp.net templates along with others. But if I choose the standard "Visual Studio 2015" then those templates are there... So glad to find the answer because I keep remove and reinstall each time I accidentally close visual studio 2015 community

Visual Studio Update Paused - Now cannot be resumed, modified or removed

First of all, I am trying to open a support request with Microsoft about this issue, but their support reporting portal isn't working. I have resorted to Stackoverflow because I have no way of getting to Microsoft.
Yesterday, I started updating Visual Studio 2022 from Visual Studio Installer by mistake and paused it shortly after. Today, I tried to open a project but Visual Studio seemed unavailable. At that point I remembered about the paused update and re-opened the Visual Studio installer. I tried to Resume, and I got the below error. The Modify and Remove options give out the same error too. There is no Repair option.

The dependent package of

cannot be found: Microsoft.VisualStudio.DebuggerClient.Concord,

I also tried Restarting and deleting temporary files using the Disk Cleanup tool - no difference.
I have tried to force an uninstall from the Add or Remove programs but this still redirects me to the Visual Studio installer.
I have tried to research this error online but found nothing.
I did not fix the issue but at least I managed to uninstall the Visual Studio instance to be able to start from scratch again. If you do not want to go down the route of uninstalling, feel free to try the steps as suggested by #garbagecollector.
I deleted the installation folder for 2022 from ProgramFiles.
I deleted the Visual Studio installer from Add or Remove programs. (Note: This actually uninstalled a working version of Visual Studio 2019 that I had, and left the messed up version of 2022 with the same issues, so beware if you do not want to uninstall another working version of Visual Studio)
Then I ran InstallCleanup.exe via CMD (in admin mode). Refer to the "Remove All with InstallCleanup.exe" section within this article. This seems to have cleared all Visual Studio related files including the Visual Studio
installer, and I could re-download the installer for Visual Studio
2022 Community edition and start afresh.
I faced the same issue today and could solve it by removing corresponding dependencies from _package.json files from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\[PACKAGE_NAME] folders.
I am not sure whether you can repair your installation this way, I tried only with uninstall.
So in your case edit this file:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Debugger.Concord,version=17.1.33203.90,productarch=x64 and remove the line marked with "-->" under "dependencies":

In my case I had to repeat this procedure for three or four _package.json files.

VisualStudio not saving Startup Window

Since a few weeks I have had this infuriating problem.
Whenever I start VS it opens an empty environment.
I tried to change that in Options > Environment > Startup from "Empty environment" to "Start window". After pressing "OK" I restarted VS completely and reopened it. Again: a new empty environment opens.
After reinstalling VS several times now I gave up and want to know, if someone had a similar problem and knows a fix for this problem.

After MONTHS I finally found a solution. I basically tried to uninstall all extensions and discovered that this issue only occurs while ReSharper is installed. I didn't find anything regarding this on the internet, therefore I searched all of the options and I finally found the issue!
If you have the same issue and have ReSharper installed (currently 2020.3.3) open Visual Studio and go to Extensions/ReSharper/Options. A new window will pop up. Then navigate to Environment/Performance Guide and under the group Visual Studio preferences affecting performance you'll find the item Show empty environment at startup. Set it from Fix Silently to Ignore. Click Save and close this window.
Additionally, you have reset the specific Visual Studio option. Therefore open Tools/Options and navigate to Environment/Startup and set the On startup, open: to Start window. Click OK and restart Visual Studio to check if the Start Window now gets displayed correctly.

Visual Studio 2017 crash

We are running into a problem opening our MVC5 solution in Visual Studio 2017. It will show a message saying loading projects, followed by "Preparing solution" and then it just freezes. Some preliminary research has lead to suggestions like
Remove the hidden .vs folder
Repair installation by running as admin
Updating to the latest released VS build
Remove any node.js type folders that have deeply nested folder structure within the solution folder
However, none of these have worked. Has anyone else run into a similar problem using VS 2017 with their solution? There are no special commands on packages loaded on startup.
I was able to finally get it to work. I updated to the latest Visual Studio build 15.0.0+26228.10, but that did not seem to help. After removing my .vs folder before opening the solution multiple times, it finally started to load. I have no 3rd party extensions or tools running.
I installed visual studio enterprise 2017 version 15.0.0+26228.10. and productivity power tool extension. the studio keep crashing when load project. I uninstall everything and reinstall vs only, the crash problem disappeared.
Deleted the vs folder, but it didn't work.
Looked for recently changed files in the project, saw Web.csproj.user — when I removed this the project works again.
Visual studio 2017 keeps crashing when i try to launch it,all i did was to launch visual studio installer go to more which is under the product am using then clicked on repair and that got me running again.
We saw some lockups, especially during the start of Batch Builds, until we set this experimental feature to False:
Tools > Options : Text Editor > C/C++ > Experimental : Enable Faster Project Load.
I don't know whether it could apply to your problem or not, but it is related to loading projects, so...

I had the same issue and uninstalled the ankhsvn subversion plugin then closed and re opened vs 2017 ad it worked.

VS2013 Build "Does not support previewing"

Every time I try to build my solution in VS2013, nothing builds, no errors - But in the status bar it says: "This item does not support previewing"
I googled around a bit but have come up empty.
But if I right click on each project and select build it works fine.
Any ideas?

Steps to reproduce on my machine:
Right Click any project in solution: select build
Status bar displays Build successful
Right click solution select build
Status bar displays : "This item does not support previewing"
Perhaps it isnt related, but it sure does appear to be.
I was able to fix this... Somehow nothing was selected to build in the solution configuration. I right clicked on the solution, went to properties and then selected COnfiguration Properties and clicked the Build box for all the projects...
I have no idea how they became unchecked, only thing I can think of is a co-worker was trolling me.....
I've had this problem (i.e. debug not starting, and no error message) with Visual Studio 2015 in the following two cases:
after loading a solution that had previously been built with Visual Studio 2010
and also after using the "save as" function in Visual Studio 2015 to update a solution that had been started with Visual Studio 2010 (using Save as updates the solution file and sets the active Visual Studio version to 14 - i.e. VS 2015).
In both cases, deleting the bin and obj directories under the startup project fixed the problem. It's also worth closing visual studio and making sure that there are no {yourprojectname}.vshost.exe processes still running - if there are then kill them before running visual studio again. On that note, if you have multiple versions of visual studio on your machine, you should also check that you don't have the same solution open in the other version of visual studio at the same time (I've done that one myself).
One of the comments here suggests disabling the "enable visual studio hosted process" option. Don't do that if you can at all avoid it: you'll lose lots of debugging functionality (particularly in the area of being able to edit code while your solution is running).

Solution for VS2015

Step 1. Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Step 2. Uninstall all: Windows Software Development Kit - Windows 10.0.10586.15 (maybe you have diff ver)
Step 3. Download new latest Windows Software Development Kit

Dclick on MainPage.xaml and you will see Loading designer...
1: Add below lines in App.conf

2: add a reference to Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTestTools.UnitTestFramework.dll
right click on your project and select: Add Reference
3: add using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting; in Step Defination
4: goto feature file and run it. This is what solve my problem on vs2013
I faced same issue with .aspx file. I just right click on the .aspx file and select open with (HTML Editor). You can choose any form the list.
I have come across the same issue for me, I have opened a project in VS 2010 and then when I open the same in VS 2015 then his error has occurred.
Solution:
By Closing the VS2010 project solution fixed the issue.

AWS Toolkit for .NET won't open in Visual Studio

I downloaded the AWS Tookkit for .NET a couple weeks ago and it was working fine.

For the last couple of days, I have not been able to open it in either Visual Studio 2010 or Visual Studio 2012.
I have already uninstalled it, rebooted, and re-installed (multiple times)
I can choose it from the View menu, but when I select it, nothing happens.
I'm just looking for some direction to see what I can do to resolve this.
I figured it out. I had to uninstall the Toolkit, then go to the profile on the PC and delete the whole AWSToolkit folder, finally I re-installed it. It allowed me to bring it back up and and browse everything.
Specifically, you want to delete the folder found at: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\AWSToolkit
