Unable to download any image in Windows16 docker - windows

I have been experimenting with docker the aim is
Install docker on windows 16
for which I am following instructions from https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/windowscontainers/quick_start/quick_start_windows_server
everything looks fine till installation of the docker , after that when I try to test the docker it give
below error.
failed to register layer: re-exec error: exit status 1: output: ProcessBaseLayer C:\ProgramData\docker\windowsfilter\0c9
effd422805350acb1f051eb171399678aff003192c41be274acc4762b786c: The system cannot find the path specified.
here I am just trying to pull "hello-world" from docker hub
My ultimate aim is to run IIS on docker container and deploy the application running on IIS.
Had anyone faced such issue or could come up with any suggestions
its VM machine with
OS :- Win2016
HDD :- 50GB
RAM :- 4GB

You can't pull the hello-world image from docker hub because it's linux image. I used to see it before while playing with Docker Container on windows when trying to do the same thing.
If you want to get different image like IIS, just run command follow the instructions:
First:
Install-PackageProvider ContainerImage -Force
Then
Install-ContainerImage -Name WindowsServerCore
After that, restart your docker container with
Restart-Service docker
And you'll have the images of IIS on your machine.
I've tried to get the images of windows as the way we do in Linux but it always throw error as you have, I guess that all images we have on hub now are for Linux only, so if you want to have particular things, you must build it by yourselves or using existed images for Windows on Docker hub (about 9 or 10 images as I remember).

This is probably because there's no hello-world image for Windows. You can try running docker run windowsservercore cmd /C hello world.

How Docker Windows and Linux Containers run Simultaneously (how does it works) and why building doesn't work.
I try to run mixed windows and linux containers using docker compose.
I followed this
article and its worked (using compose version 2.4 and latest docker desktop).
Can someone explain me how does it work? Does it work only with wsl or I can use it using linux hyperv?
When I try to build new linux image (pulling works fine) I got an error, some commands gave me Invalid signal: WINCH and some gave me

how to solve the extited code 139, for run the image cloudera/quickstart, in docker with WSL2 Ubuntu?

I'm using WSL2 with Ubuntu 20.04 distribution, and I was trying create a container in Docker with the Following command:
docker run --hostname=quickstart.cloudera --privileged=true -it -v $PWD:/src --publish-all=true -p 8888:8888 -p 8080:8080 -p 7180:7180 cloudera/quickstart /usr/bin/docker-quickstart
when I run this command, a download started with a weight of about 4.4 GB, (i think that is because because was the first time that I run this container), whe the download was over, I used the following command to check the containers docker ps -a and the status for the container is Exited (139) 6 minutes ago, when check my image list

I think that the image was created successfully, but when I try to run the first command, I keep gettind the Exited (139) in the status and I can't use the container
Apparently the exit code 139 refers to some problem with the system or the hardware, maybe the RAM, but I'm not sure. and I don't know if this problem is because I'm using wsl or my 8GB in ram

is there any way to run this image successfully?
You need to create a file named .wslconfig under %userprofile% folder on your Windows and copy the following lines into that file
[wsl2]
kernelCommandLine = vsyscall=emulate
Then just restart your Docker engine.
I fixed this by changing the Docker engine from WSL2 back-end to Hyper-V

docker proxy pull windows 10

After install docker v1.12.0-rc2 on windows 10 pro machine, set the http and https variables, i get the following error:
docker run hello-world

world image is images for Linux container, you can't use it on windows container.
At the moment, there're only about 9 or 10 images for windows containers, you can use it follow this article https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/windowscontainers/deployment/deployment.
After install v1.12.0-rc3-beta18 build 5226 pull container works behind a proxy. tks #huy-tran

Build a full Ubuntu desktop docker image

I want to build a full version of Ubuntu 14 desktop as the base image for gui applications, I know how to build on the Ubuntu desktop version by the debootstrap, as described in https://docs.docker.com/articles/baseimages/, but that is a minimal Linux version and some GUI application cannot run perfectly, because there are some basic components missing, such as a font family, so I want the full control of a basic image, thanks!

visit: http://127.0.0.1:6080/#/ which runs a noVNC more limited JavaScript VNC client
run:
sudo apt-get install tigervnc-viewer

Then inside vinagre, you might want to go into full screen mode to be able to see the full desktop
I also tried vinagre, but it was much laggier when scrolling Firefox on YouTube.
To quit just kill docker on the terminal. And to restart the machine
docker start ubvnc
and then reconnect with VNC. Then to quit the machine:
docker stop ubvnc
You have to wait a few seconds for the VNC server on the guest to start before you can connect.
Chromium won't start from the menu. If you try to launch it from the command line it explains why:

Docker Desktop is a way that will give you an X11 server to connect on using SSH.
This Dockerfile creates a docker image and once it's executed it creates a container that runs X11 and SSH services. The ssh is used to forward X11 and provide you encrypted data communication between the docker container and your local machine.

dockerizing an application on Mac OS X

I installed boot2docker as explained on the docker website. Here are some command runs to show that I have things installed correctly:

After this, I ran the following command:
docker run -t -i ubuntu:14.04 /bin/bash
Inside the container, I installed zeromq, and started a zeromq server on port 5555 using tcp.
My questions are following:
If I exit out of the container, will it save all the work I do inside it?
I have no idea how to connect to the server running on port 5555. I read something about exposing a port, but I am not sure how to go about doing that. I did an ifconfig inside the container, and tried to connect to the server from the host like this:

This did not work. Can someone please lists the steps I need to take in order to connect to the server running within the container.

One last question I have is about code performance. So within my Mac OS X, I have a docker container running (which runs Ubuntu). If I run the application, like a zeromq based server inside the container, will it not be slower as compared to running it on Mac OS X directly. Please explain the benefits of using docker in such a scenario..
You should really do some more reading and research before turning to SO, then ask about anything you can't figure out. But:
No. If the container is "exited" you can restart it and your files will still be there, but once it is removed your files are gone. You can use docker commit to save them to an image, but the best bet is to use a Dockerfile.
docker run -p 5000:8000 image will expose port 8000 in the container as port 5000 on the host.
Yes, it will be slower due to the boot2docker VM. It would not be slower if you were running on a Linux host. The advantage is that zeromq is now running in an isolated container with all its dependencies.
