I am using Visual Studio 2012 for SSRS and my queries come from using Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
My question below pertains to SSRS and sorting.
In my Tablix, I currently have the Row Groups set up as Group -> Manager -> Owner -> Status Description and when it pulls the data from the data from the dataset, it pulls in fine. In the tablix, basically everything is a drilldown and each of the Row Groups (except Group) is hidden initially and can be displayed/toggled by the report item ahead of it. In the Status Description part, when it pulls in the records, it pulls them in as Active, Completed, In Process...which is fine because they are pulling in ABC Order.
But I want to show that specific column when it pulls in as Active, In Process, Completed...in the way that a specific file would go through the process. These are only 3 specific ways the data could pull it as, there are more, but these are the most common seen. How do I sort that individual column to get it in the way I mentioned above or a way that I can customize the sorting based on how I want it to be seen?
You can use expressions in the sort order to get the sorting exactly as you'd like.
What you can do is use the SWITCH statement to number your output in the order you want. For example I have 3 statuses: "Complete", "On Hold" and "Word at Risk". Normally they would either sort as Ascending or Descending... but if I enter this in the Sort Order Formula I can change that:
=SWITCH(
Fields!PRS_STATUS.Value = "Complete", 1,
Fields!PRS_STATUS.Value = "Word at Risk", 2 ,
Fields!PRS_STATUS.Value = "On Hold", 3)
And now it orders 1,2,3 aka Complete, Work at Risk, On Hold.
You can put this switch in a larger switch statement to have multiple sort orders depending on a criteria or parameter.

I am working on a BIRT report. Its records are grouped on the basis of the status column. I was looking for an option in the Eclipse BIRT tool by which I can hide combinations of multiple columns in a row which are repeating. I have attached screenshots for both the current report and the expected report structure.
I tried the "suppress duplicate" option but that is limited to a single column. I am not able to apply this on multiple columns together. I couldn't figure out any other option. Please suggest any solution in the tool or do I need to change my query to return the result in the expected format?
Actual Result:
Expected Result:
There are three obvious ways to hide duplicate values.
All of these require you to configure this per column (BTW I don't understand why you consider this to be a problem).
As you already did: Use "suppress duplicates" at the column level.
Add more groups to your table after the existing group.
E.g. one group for the first column (whatever that is).
Then you can choose "Drop" "detail" in the properties of the corresponding group header cell. It's a bit difficult to get the layout right this way.
In your data set, if it's SQL, you can use a little construnct with CASE and the LAG analytic function to compare the column value to that of the previous row, and if they are equal, return NULL instead (pure SQL solution).
I am working on a Talend transformation process (we are using Talend 6.4).
, and I don't know how to implement the current requirement.
I have an input consisting in :
Two columns that are my group keys (Account and Product), but are not unique (the same Account x Product couple can happen in multiple rows)
A criterion column (Contract end date), which will help me decide which row I want to keep for each group
Some "tail" data that need to be passed to the following step of the processing (the contract number)
The rule to implement is:
Keep only one record per group
The selected record must be one with no end date or, if all have end date, with the biggest end date
The selected record can be random in case there is a tie
See the transformation applying those rules on some dummy data:
I thought first to do the following:
sort by Account, Product, End_date (nulls first)
"select first" in each group
but I am not skilled enough to know whether the second transformation exists in Talend.

Pierre
Very interesting Talend question.
You need to create something like this job.
here a link to the zip file to import in your Talend
The answer from #MBDIA seem to be working, however I would like to share what we did to fulfill our requirement.
See our Talend process here:
The first tMap (tMap_3) acts like a tReplicate and a tMap, and sends:
in the upper branch only the Account and Product references, that are then deduplicated by the tAggregateRow_1.
in the lower branch all data and computed fields that enables us to take care of the case where the date is missing (instead of defaulting to 31/12/9999, we compute a flag (0 or 1) that we use in the sort step afterwards).
In the second part of the process, we first apply the sort to the whole data on Account, Product, Empty date flag (computed before), End date (desc) and use a second tMap to make a join on both branches (on Account x Product), only keeping First Match in order to keep the first record as per our requirement.
Good afternoon!
I have created a report with the wizard to create a matrix that is grouped and has drill down rows. I have added filters to the rows and columns and it works great! I then copied that matrix and modified the filters, so I had two matrixes.
But what I really wanted was those two rows in the same matrix, just in different row groups. So I added another group, using the adjacent below option, and then added all the child groupings. However, when I run the report it shows the values for the first row of the drill down data.
When I look at the groupings I can see the one I did manually has a 'Static' field in each row grouping but the ones that the wizard did (with the red ?), they don't have that "extra" row:
What do I need to change or how do I need to add my groups so that I don't get that "static" row and not show the data? I have the visibility set to 'Hidden' and the toggle set up for the prior grouping set data.
Assuming a few things....
the data comes from a single dataset
You are differentiating between Property and Violent crimes by filtering on a column, I'll call it IncidentGroup for the sake of illustration..
I've understood your question ! :)
Get to the point where you had just a single tablix filtered to show 'Property crime'.
Now remove or edit that filter so it shows all the data you need in the report.
Finally, right click on your Matrix1_IncidentCategory row and add a parent group, choose IncidentGroup (or whatever the column is actually called) and check the box to add a group header.
That should be it, there is no need for a second tablix.
Without knowing how you are filtering currently it's hard to give a complete answer but this should get you close, if not all the way there.
If this doesn't work for whatever reason, please post sample data from your dataset output and your current filters.
On a number of reports I have noticed that setting sort options through the tablix properties does not work. I choose the data I'd like to sort by (date) and set the option (Z to A), but the report still shows unsorted. Has anyone else seen this issue? I have read that updating the report xml to include the sort may be what needs to be done because the report builder does not preserve the changes made. Haven't gone down that road yet as I'm looking to see if there's a fix already identified.
Date Type Lead Name State distance Consultant ZIP State 1 Level Reason url
Those are the columns from the export with data filling each column. Can't give too much info because it shows phone numbers and addresses.
One option is to sort the data in your dataset. Then you can leave it and SSRS will honor that.
As the others mentioned, make sure you check the datatype so it's not trying to sort the dates as a string.
Set the sort priorities at the group level, not on the table or dataset properties.
You should never have to edit the XML to get this to work. This is a basic built-in feature that most reports use.
Do you have groups on your tablix? if yes, did you try sorting it with the Row Groups or Column Groups at bottom instead of the sorting properties of the tablix?
I'm trying create two groups from two different tables. I choose create new crystal report (As A blank report) then i create two groups like following images:
Then I'm choosing the table. I'm doing this once again with another table i want.
My Crystal report design look like this:
Now my Result is this:
But I want to take this result:(This result is painted)
Maybe it looks like easy for you, but i need a helping hand for solving this.
I choosed link options(Full inner join)
In Design Form
The grouping functionality within Crystal maintains the data relationship and makes it easier to read by not repeating the group text for each line item - if you group by "A", you will see all items, including the "group 2 duplicates" so long as they are in group A. Adding a second group will further refine the subset of results.
This is the intended and expected behavior for Crystal - SQL-level grouping is different and is used for aggregate functions, among other things.
If you are trying to create a multi-column report, look at this
Can I make a two column Crystal Report? - Under Section Expert, go to Details and click the box "format with Multiple Columns", then click Layout at the top and enter the detail size, in inches, as well as the gap between details. if you want your groups to continue in the additional columns, click the "Format groups with Multiple Column" checkbox.
If this does not satisfy your requirement, you may have to reevaluate the report requirements and the dataset limitations.
