I have visual studio 2010 installed on user machines and TFS 2013 on server machine.I am facing a strange issue from few days. When I map any project to TFS team project it gets mapped perfectly. But when I open it again visual studio 2010 doesnot showing any mapping to the local folder on user system. That is it looses mapping to the project that is on local system and which was earlier mapped to that TFS team project. Any help will be strongly appreciated.
Sounds like you have selected the wrong workspace.
If the workspace changed, the mapping will definitely "lose".
Mapped perfect with workspace PATRICK-W10
However, if the workspace changed to PATRICK-W10_1, you need to remap all files.
Please double check this.

After opening Visual Studio 2013 successfully, I switch to the Team Explorer tab and consistently get a popup error dialog saying that, "Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 has stopped working" and "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem".
This seems to be directly related to TFS (2013 Update 4) since other tools that access TFS (like Source Control Explorer > Workspaces...) also cause the crash.
Edit: I have already tried a VS 2013 Repair. This took all morning with no different results.
This is frustrating because I cannot use TFS outside of the command-line tools. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

His issue was checking in changes and having Visual Studio crash. In my case, just using the TFS tools was consistently causing a crash.
The fix for me was to only clear out the local cache and not both the server and local caches.
Clean the Cache folder on client computer. The folder path is: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Team Foundation\5.0\Cache.
I cleared this folder and I was able to use all of the TFS tools without any further issues.
I then realized that this happened since migrating to a new user name. I had copied many of my settings over from my old account folder and it must have corrupted the cache area.
I had the same issue with Visual Studio 2015 Enterprises. When i open it, VS wasn't able to connect to TFS and it crashed when i clicked on "manage connections"
The issue was not about the cache (I cleared the cache, made a repair of VS and nothing changed) but about the fact that we are currently migrating our projects from perforce to Git with Team Foundation Server.
When Visual Studio starts, it seems VS is trying to connect to TFS with linked Git repositories, but since the plugin currently used is perforce, it causes an exception somehow.
The solution is to set your source control plugin to Microsoft Git Provider (or Visual Studio Team Foundation Server if you are using it)
Here's two screen shots I took. Right after I selected the Microsoft Git Provider, the Team Explorer tab automatically refreshed and I am now able to connect to my projects.
Go to Tools -> Extensions and Updates Look for Github Extension for Visual Studio and Uninstall it
Never Mind as you can still work with Github
Now Restart Visual Studio.
Enjoy working on Team Explorer.
I created a Visual Studio 2013 MVC project in Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate using Visual Studio Team Services through visualstudio.com. I have since reinstalled Windows and Visual Studio 2013 and have reopened the solution and receive error:
The solution you have loaded is bound to the source control server at https://{myaccount}.visualstudio.com/defaultcollection, but no workspace on that server could be located. If you do have a workspace on this server, and you want this solution to be opened under source control,
connect to that server using Team Explorer and then re-open the solution.
I am having difficulty locating how to setup and manage workspaces on my local machine and Team Services.
If you open visual studio and connect to your team project you should then be able to open the solution explorer. Once open you should see your project grated or as It is not maped locally.
Right click on your desired mapping folder level and map it to your local disk.
Note: You will need to map it to another location and pull across any uncommitted changes.
I am workign with a central Team Foundation Server (2010) and I connect to it from my workstation. On my workstation I use both Visual Studio 2010 and 2012. I have installed both have the Team Explorer 2010 and 2012 and the latest patches and hotfixes.
I need to use both Visual Studio 2010 and 2012 because I am developing both .NET 4.5 code and SQL Server Reporting Server reports for SQL Server 2012.
I can configure both instances of Visual Studio to connect to TFS, I mapped my workspace in Visual Studio 2012 and I can interact with Source Control. I tried configuring Visual Studio 2010 to use the same working folder, I can connect to TFS, I can see the source control folder, but when I try to map it to the same local folder I get the following error message:
Map
The working folder "C:\TFS\Example" is already in use by the workspace JohnDoesPC; Doe, John on computer JohnDoesPC
I tried configuring the workspace mapping through the dropdown in the Source Control Explorer:
Team Explorer>project>Source Control>Map Window>(Set Local Folder)
And I tried it through the Source control menu under the File menu:
Go File>SourceControl>Manage Workspaces>(Highlight my showing workspace)>Edit>Try to add existing folder.
What am I missing? Do I need to map my solution folder to two different local folders? That would be very confusing and inconvenient!
The simplest way to put this is that I want two versions of TFS to point to the same local location. Is that possible? Or should I be creating a new project up just for my SSRS reports?
EDIT: See pic for more detail:
Make sure that in both Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 the same work space name is selected. If you cannot see the workspace of 2012 in Visual Studio 2010, check the advanced workspace settings of the workspace in 2012. Ensure that the workspace type is set to server.
When both Visual Studio versions are using the same workspace name, they should be able to see and use each others file mappings as well.
This is what the settings in 2012 should look like:
And that workspace should be visible in 2010 as well:
Make sure you select the same workspace name in both versions of Visual Studio:
Whenever I open a file (ex. aspx, ascx) or a solution using VS, it creates the following 3 folders next to a file or a solution.
Visual Studio 2010
Visual Studio 2010Projects
visual studio 2010Templates
Recently, there has been a problem with Windows User Account in our network; the profile issue has been fixed by Network Admin.
I'm wondering how to fix that VS issue. Thanks in advanced.
Open the Tools/Options/Projects and Solutions/General dialog, and make sure the settings are correct for Projects Location, User Projects Template Location, and User Items Template Location.
I have problem with bad url to TFS 2010 server in Visual Studio.
First I have TFS 2010 on machine zeus... TFS url was zeus:8080\tfs
Then changed location, now is TFS on machine hades...TFS url is now hades:8080\tfs
In visual studio I changed source control to hades:8080\tfs.
Then I created Team project in Team collection.
When I am trying add some solution to source control Visual Studio still use old TFS url (zeus:8080\tfs).
I don't know how can I change it. I search in Visual Studio some settings when I can configure TFS url.
But actually I am connected with good TFS url. I can add Team project to TFS collection but when I am trying add solution Visual Studio use old URL.
Any advice.
Did you try to clear your cache?
