Karaf Commands to List Bundles - osgi

What is the difference in Karaf between the commands list and la?
My understanding is that both represent the command bundle:list ("Lists all installed bundles"). That's based on the results I see when I issue either the command list --help or la --help. In both cases, the help info provided in the console describes the bundle:list command.
However, these 2 commands (list and la) in fact do not yield the same results: when I issue the list command I'm shown a list of several bundles (14 actually in my current Karaf instance), all of which are in the Active state; but when I issue the la command I get a far longer list (137), most of which are in the Active state, but some of which show as Resolved.

bundle:list gives you all bundles with a start level higher or equal to 50, while la is an alias to bundle:list -t 0 (list all).
This is done because a lot of Karaf internal bundles are having a start level lower than 50, while all bundles being installed via bundle:deploy or by placing in the deploy folder automatically have start level 80.
Also, bundles being installed by means of features are usually deployed with start level 80, unless defined otherwise.
The difference between the Active and Resolved states is because Bundles can be Active while fragments can only be Resolved.
edit
Just issuing the bundle:list command will give you the following output:
karaf#root()> list
START LEVEL 100 , List Threshold: 50
ID | State | Lvl | Version | Name
---------------------------------
As can be seen, the Threshold is 50 and given.

Run an exe file on a Mac with Wineskin (VseeFace Application)

I really hope that someone could help me out with my problem.
I want to start an exe File (VSeeFace - see https://www.vseeface.icu for more information) on my Mac with wineskin. VseeFace is an application for Vtubing.
The application starts normally via Wineskin, but as soon as I try to open my avatar (a .vrm file), the software stops and I don't know why. I have searched everywhere and found nothing about my problem, but perhaps that is also due to my limited knowledge of development skills.
Can anyone help me please?
My Mac:
MacOS Monterey Version 12.4
Radeon Pro 575X 4 GB
My Wineskin Setup:
Wrapper Version Wineskin 2.9.1.5
Engine WS11WineCX64Bit22.0.1-1
Config Utility - Windows-Version 8
VseeFace Software – https://www.vseeface.icu/#download
They also describe how it will work on Linux or maybe Mac,
https://www.vseeface.icu/#running-on-linux-and-maybe-mac
For the Facetracking I run OpenSeeFace (but that seemed to work, I could see the green light of the iMac camera, but I couldn't test it because of my software problem).
I mean I could run the application but on the most important Screen it stops working.
In the debug.log file I noticed the following messages:

Bad performance of Chromium after compiling

I want to compile Chromium for windows with different patches from different projects for myself (at least for today). I follow this official instruction:
https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/main/docs/windows_build_instructions.md
All steps successfully passed, but i get awful low perfomance. In speeDOMeter benchmark (https://browserbench.org/Speedometer2.0/) my build get only 5 points, while official build get 116! This is commands for GIT what i use:
gclient
mkdir chromium && cd chromium
fetch --no-history chromium
cd src
gn gen --ide=vs out/Default "--args=target_cpu=\"x86\""
autoninja -C out/Default chrome -j 6
What i was try and this is not help:
Delete depot tools folder, and start over
Decrease -j from 10 to 8 and to 6
Delete argument --ide=vs
Fetch with history
Use command "gn gen" without --args part
Disable windows defender & firewall
As Asesh correctly noted, the problem was in debug mode. But adding key "is_debug=false" to gn gen command is not enough. The best solution will be the adding "is_official_build=true" key. Here is description:
is_official_build
Current value (from the default) = false
From //build/config/BUILDCONFIG.gn:136
Set to enable the official build level of optimization. This has nothing
to do with branding, but enables an additional level of optimization above
release (!is_debug). This might be better expressed as a tri-state
(debug, release, official) but for historical reasons there are two
separate flags.
IMPORTANT NOTE: (!is_debug) is *not* sufficient to get satisfying
performance. In particular, DCHECK()s are still enabled for release builds,
which can halve overall performance, and do increase memory usage. Always
set "is_official_build" to true for any build intended to ship to end-users.
Thanks Asesh for pointing me in the right direction.

Multiple problems installing TeX Live 2021 on Windows 10

I have a Windows 10 laptop where no TeX distribution was ever installed before (double-checked for config directories, files, and environment variables).
Wanting to install TeX Live 2021, I followed the full installation guide and also read the Windows-specific warnings. I've now tried several times, following different installation procedures - cleaning up everything (deleting base & user directories, environment variables, etc) before each time - but still don't manage to get a working installation. Before I report a bug at tex-live#tug, I wanted to ask for advice here, in case I'm doing something wrong. Here is what I did, step by step, and the problems I encountered in the process.
1. First I tried running the recommended online installer install-tl-windows.exe. It never got past the screen that tries to contact or load from a repository, even after a 30-min wait. Tried a dozen times, choosing different mirrors nearby and far away. No luck.
2. Then I downloaded and unpacked the install-tl.zip and run install-tl-windows.bat therein. This time the main installation window appeared. I left all default paths and environment variables (note that I do have write access to C:); in the selection scheme I unselected all languages except US & UK English, unselected XeTeX, LuaTeX, ConTeXt; also unselected TeXworks (I use Emacs), and clicked Install. After one to three hours (depending on the mirror I chose), the installation was complete.
I tried compiling a minimal latex document (see below), and got an error similar to the one in this old question:
I can't find the format file `pdflatex.fmt'
Following the advice in the answers to that question and similar questions elsewhere online such as this, I tried running texhash and fmtutil-sys --all. The latter gave the error
no appropriate script or programme found fmtutil.
for which there are also many posts online.
2a. Not understanding what the problem could be, I re-tried with all possible combinations of the following three options: (a) choosing different mirrors; (b) leaving the full selection of packages (ie without unselecting some languages, LuaTeX etc); (c) redoing the procedure by choosing "Run as Administrator". No luck.
3. At this point I tried downloading the ISO file with the full installation. Mounted the image and run install-tl-windows.bat (as normal user, as recommended; I repeat that I do have write access to C:). Everything proceeded as in step 2. above. At the end of the installation I tried running pdflatex on the minimal latex document. New error this time:
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592653-2.6-1.40.22 (TeX Live 2021/W32TeX) (preloaded format=pdflatex)
restricted \write18 enabled.

Very strange. A file search revealed that article.cls is in the TeXLive file system; but kpathsea did not see it indeed.
4. At this point I opened the TeX Live Shell from the Start Menu; selected a CTAN mirror; updated the TL Manager which was not up to date; updated all packages; run Regenerate filename database; and run Regenerate formats. With the latter I got this error:
tex live shell:

I tried to continue anyway with Regenerate fontmaps, and then tried again pdflatex on the minimal document. New error:

5. I tried again steps 3. and 4., but with "Run as Administrator". Same errors.
OK at this point I give up and really don't know what to do. Am I doing something wrong? For the moment I have to concur with this post: installation of TeX Live 2021 is an utter failure.
Here is the minimal latex file I used for testing (copy & paste):
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
test
\section{Section}
test
\end{document}
Found, that the download is not working because the system path to "cmd.exe" is not found. Therefore: open a cmd window and add the system path prior to starting the .bat file (set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Windows\system32)

Starting a payara 5 has encountered

I have build a very simple project of hello world in
Payara 5 (5.181)
JSF 2.3
JDK 1.8
CDI 2.0
Maven
and encountered a problem
Unable to start server due following issues: Launch process failed with exit code 1
in console it throws an error of :
Error: Could not find or load main class server\payara5\glassfish.lib.grizzly-npn-bootstrap.jar
[PIC] Payara 5 Error
It seems that the Payara Tools for Eclipse suffer by several bugs that may cause this. In my case, the following workarounds helped:
The Payara installation path should not contain spaces (e.g. Program Files\Payara)
It seems that only Java 8 is supported at the time
Open the domain.xml configuration file for the domain you are trying to start (typically payara_install_path/glassfish/domains/domain1/config/domain1.xml) and search for "Xbootclasspath". You should find a couple of lines like
<jvm-options>[1.8.0|1.8.0u120]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.6.jar</jvm-options>
<jvm-options>[1.8.0u121|1.8.0u160]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.7.jar</jvm-options>
<jvm-options>[1.8.0u161|1.8.0u190]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.jar</jvm-options>
<jvm-options>[1.8.0u191|1.8.0u500]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.1.jar</jvm-options>
Depending of your installed Java version (try running java --version) and choose the appropriate line (most likely the last one). Remove the remaining lines and remove the [...] part at the beginning of the chosen line so you will get something like
<jvm-options>-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.1.jar</jvm-options>
After this, the tools seem to start normally.
The Problem is with Java version. The grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.1.jar Jar is placed in bootclasspath, thats why it requires proper java version to start payara server. So remove unnecessary bootstrap jar from domain.xml.
In Windows:
1) Go To ---C:\Users\xxxx\payara5\glassfish\domains\domain1\config\domain.xml
2) According to my java verson(java version "1.8.0_191") I deleted the following lines from domain.xml. So delete according to your java version.
<jvm-options>[1.8.0|1.8.0u120]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.6.jar</jvm-options>
<jvm-options>[1.8.0u121|1.8.0u160]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.7.jar</jvm-options>
<jvm-options>[1.8.0u161|1.8.0u190]-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.jar</jvm-options>
3) Remove this [1.8.0u191|1.8.0u500] part from jvm-options & Edit the line in your domain.xml(w.r.t java -version) as shown below
<jvm-options>-Xbootclasspath/p:${com.sun.aas.installRoot}/lib/grizzly-npn-bootstrap-1.8.1.jar</jvm-options>
4) restart your server.
As Radkovo said, "The Payara installation path should not contain spaces (e.g. Program Files\Payara)", so I moved the Payara to the Documents folder.
Problem solved!

"Command not found: grep" in karaf console

I have strange problem with Servicemix version Fuse ESB 4.4.1.
Sometimes the part of the commands will not load and be not available. Usually this happens with quite often used by me command, grep. This looks as following:
karaf#root> list | grep spring
Command not found: grep
It seems to be random, restart usually helps. With previous versions of Fuse ESB it happened sometimes, but quite rare, now it happens quite often. Can someone help, what is causing the problem?
Perhaps completely unrelated, but I've encountered a number of boot-time race conditions in Karaf and its dependencies. Most importantly, this one that I filed:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KARAF-910
"Race between FeatureService and ConfigAdmin for resolving mvn: URLs?"
That particular defect only manifests if you have some non-standard settings for pax-url-mvn, but it's a symptom of the general problem that configadmin applies settings asynchronously, so it matters if the configadmin thread is faster or slower than the main OSGi bundle-starting thread.
I have not seen any Karaf Command problems related to that race, but my problem is superficially similar in that some bundle services randomly don't start.
The 'grep' command has a full name - shell:grep. You might try that to see if e.g. another command has been installed with the same short (unqualified) name and it's getting confused.
The other possibility is that the bundle that provides the grep service has stopped, possibly by accident.
osgi:list -t 0 -s
will show you a list of all the bundles by symbolic name, which includes this one: (the number may be different):
[ 18] [Active ] [Created ] [ 30] org.apache.karaf.shell.commands (2.2.3)
karaf#root> osgi:stop 18
You are about to access system bundle 18. Do you wish to continue (yes/no): yes
karaf#root> help | grep grep
Command not found: grep
karaf#root> osgi:start 18
You are about to access system bundle 18. Do you wish to continue (yes/no): yes
karaf#root> help | grep grep
shell:grep
As for why that bundle is being stopped -- maybe something (or someone) is explicitly stopping it? Or it's being stopped by accident?
