Full width container with fix width content. Sass, Bourbon Neat - sass

I wish to make my background full width, with a image or colour background filling the row. However, I would like the content to sit in the middle spanning the standard 12 cols dictated by neat.
Currently my structure is:

This results in the container spanning the full width of the browser. But so does the inner section? I would like this to sit in the centre across the standard 12 cols?

Keeping your current HTML I would do the following in SCSS:
.container {
background-color: pink;

}
This makes the section the element neat treats as the outer-container, leaving the .container element to do it's natural thing of spanning the full browser window width, allowing you to add a background.

Susy grid changes container size when the font size changes -- how to work around this?

I am using susy grids 1.0.9 and noticed something which has me confused.
I have two elements, ".page_1" and ".page_2", with identical settings -- spanning 10 columns each, padded on both sides.
I noticed an unexpected behavior: if I use $container-style: static, the container size starts changing depending on the font-size applied to said container.
If I change font-size to 1em both containers are again the same size.
If I change '$container-style' to 'magic' both containers are the same size, too. This behavior takes place only with a font-size specified on the element when the $container-style' is set tostatic.`
What am I doing wrong?/Is there a workaround for this? Code below.

The width of .page is calculated in em, because you set your column/gutter widths as ems (which are font-size based). Since you're giving .page_2 a larger font-size than .page_1 the width of the container will grow as well.
If you want to use the static layout you can change your column/gutter settings, or set a fixed container-width:
$container-width: 960px;
This will apply a fixed width of 960px on .pages_wrapper and the width of .page will get calculated in percent.
Alternatively, you could alter your HTML and apply font-size on an additional container inside the container that uses the span-column mixin:

How to make a floated image act responsively?

My main concern in this fiddle is the div#text and img.frame. I'm trying to create a responsive website, but this has been my problem for so long, I can't figure out how 'to make the img behave beside the text and be responsive at the same time when I try to reduce the size of the browser window. What it does is, it goes under the text before it acts responsively. Is there a workaround for this?

The key to responsive images with flowed text does rely on float. However, the key is in floating the img element, not the text.
First, place the img tag before the text, giving a markup as so:

The importance of this order is that the img will be floated to the right, removing its cleared blocked region height, and the text will flow up and around it.
Next, remove the float from the text, allowing it to flow, and apply a float right to the image. I will also note, that to give a margin between the text and the img, the margin is applied to the img, giving you this styling:

I'm assuming that you're looking to have text and an image side-by-side here, so apologies if I'm wrong.
Like M. Berro, I would first put the two elements inside a containing div, as below:

To sit the image and text side-by side, I would use the following CSS as a starting point:

In my example, I've applied a float to each of the two elements (You will of course have to clear the floats to make sure the rest of the page's structure remains intact - I suggest looking at Clearfix, as it avoids any extra empty divs). I've also given the text a min-width: this ensures that the text doesn't contract to a point where it is unreadable!
As I understand you need an image beside a text, so when you reduce the window size the image and text behavior isn't affected.
You need the following:
Make a container div id=img_container give style width (let's say 400px)
Put your image inside the container and give a style #img_container img{float: left}
Put your text inside a p tag and give style #img_container (p or div) and give style (margin-left: same of your img width) + 10
This is the full example:

You could start by adding the css max-width: 60%; in .frame. It's not perfect but is this similar to what you are trying to achieve? Better results can be realized with javascript/jQuery.

How to auto center an img inside a div regardless of browser window size?

I have a html document structured with a header, content, and footer divs. I am trying to center an image (a logo) inside my header div to display at the top of my webpage in the middle. I can absolute position it into the middle, but when I change the browser size, the img doesn't move along with it. I want it to be place automatically in the center of the window. I am stumped..?
I have tried , margin-right:auto; margin-left:auto. I have also tried the trick where you make margin-left negative half the width and top 50%, but nothing has worked so far.

What is happening is that you are already correctly centering your image.
Your problem is that the image is huge. If you notice closely, the image is not centered if your browser window becomes smaller in width than the image.
Remove the white area from the image and it will center correctly.
Edit: in IE, you need to add the rule text-align:center to #header

I learned this hack a while ago here
Just use the logo at a size it's supposed to be (like this here), then all you need to do is add the align="center" attribute to your logo's div.

Responsive Image Adds Spacing

For some odd reason I added a responsive image to my responsive layout and it seems to add some sort of spacing below the image.

img tags, by default, are inline elements. Because of this, browsers will create a sort of "gutter" underneath them so that any text that wraps below it won't be flush with the bottom of the image.
In your case, simply applying display:block to the image should do the trick.

div with dynamic min-height based on browser window height

I have three div elements: one as a header, one as a footer, and a center content div. the div in the center needs to expand automatically with content, but I would like a min-height such that the bottom div always at least reaches the bottom of the window, but is not fixed there on longer pages.
For example:

In order to float a footer to the bottom of the page when content is shorter than window-height, or at the bottom of the content when it is longer than window-height, utilize the following code:

To make headers or footers span the width of a page, you must absolutely position the header.
Note: If you add a page-width header, I found it necessary to add an extra wrapper div to #content. The outer div controls horizontal spacing while the inner div controls vertical spacing. I was required to do this because I found that 'min-height:' works only on the body of an element and adds padding to the height.

As mentioned elsewhere, the CSS function calc() can work nicely here. It is now mostly supported. You could use like:

No hack or js needed. Just apply the following rule to your root element:
min-height: 100%;
height: auto;
It will automatically choose the bigger one from the two as its height, which means if the content is longer than the browser, it will be the height of the content, otherwise, the height of the browser. This is standard css.
You propably have to write some JavaScript, because there is no way to estimate the height of all the users of the page.
It's hard to do this.
There is a min-height: css style, but it doesn't work in all browsers. You can use it, but the biggest problem is that you will need to set it to something like 90% or numbers like that (percents), but the top and bottom divs use fixed pixel sizes, and you won't be able to reconcile them.

I know a and c have fixed heights, but I rather measure them in case they change later.
Also, I am measuring the height of b (I don't want to make is smaller after all), but if there is an image in there that did not load the height can change, so watch out for things like that.
It may be safer to do:

Which simply adds an element into that div with the correct height - that effectively acts as min-height even for browsers that don't have it. (You may want to add the element into your markup, and then just control the height of it via javascript instead of also adding it that way, that way you can take it into account when designing the layout.)
