Cant successfully install SDL for Perl to make games - windows

I have been teaching myself Perl after being introduced to the language during a programming module during my Bioinformatics Masters studies at the University of Liverpool, UK.
I have decided that for fun in my spare time I would practise my new skills building basic games and so have downloaded the SDL::Manual Writing Games in Perl pdf.
I have followed the instructions for installing SDL:
1.3 Installing SDL Perl
We assume the presence of a recent version of the Perl language (at least Perl 5.10) and supporting packages. We also assume that you can install packages from the CPAN, including SDL Perl itself.
1.3.1 Windows
Alien::SDL will install binaries for 32bit and 64bit so there is no need to compile anything.
I am using a windows machine.
In the command prompt I type "cpan Alien::SDL"
I have also tried :
1.3.4 CPAN install
Before installing SDL Perl, ensure that you have the most recent versions of the modulesnecessary to build SDL:
$ sudo cpan CPAN
$ sudo cpan YAML Module::Build
After these two steps CPAN will be able to install SDL:
$ sudo cpan SDL
When I try to run the first example script:
use strict;
use warnings;
use SDL;
use SDLx::App;
my $app = SDLx::App->new();
sleep( 2 );
I get this error:
Can't locate SDL.pm in #INC (you may need to install the SDL module) (#INC contains: C:/Perl/site/lib C:/Perl/lib .) at test.pl line 5.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at test.pl line 5.
I have searched for solutions online but have not found anything that works. I have tried installing strawberry perl and following the steps above with no success.
Thanks in advance for your help.
EDIT in response to comments:
I am running ActiveState Perl downloaded from www.activestate.com/activeperl/downloads
perl 5, version 24, subversion 1 (v5.24.1) built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread-64int Binary build 2402 [401627]
After determining the location where cpan installed the module SDL by running cpan -D SDL it turned out the module has not yet installed.
Tried again to install the SDL module on Windows runnning "cpan SDL" in the command prompt but recieved this message at the end of the prompt:

Edit No2 in Response to Answer from #Borodin
I used "cpan" to enter the program and get the cpan> prompt. Then tried:
cpan> install SDL
The failed install log is as below:
cpan> install SDL

SDL installs just fine for me on ActivePerl
Regarding Alien::SDL, that is the SDL binaries which the main SDL module requires. It also needs a bunch of other stuff, but cpan should install all of that for you
I recommend that you use the cpan to enter the program and get the cpan> prompt. Then try
cpan> install SDL
It should test and install any modules that you need and finally SDL itself
If it fails, then please add the failed install log to your question

Recommend installing in Ubuntu, SDL installs without trouble there. If you don't want to switch, try Ubuntu on a USB stick: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows

SpringToolSuite 4 and proper OSGi clean

I have SpringToolSuite 4 installed in macOS 11 "Big Sur" running in aarch64 of Zulu11 OpenJDK 11.0.11+9-LTS . I get this error below when starting up and have added the "-clean" parameter to the two ways I use to start up.
From an Applescript: open /Applications/SpringToolSuite4.app" & " --args -clean
Or from the command line: ./SpringToolSuite4 -clean
It would seem the clean parameter is successfully sent as '-Dosgi.clean="true"' is on the last line below. However, it doesn't seem to help as this is reappearing at every restart.
Are there other ways to do an OSGi clean?
I can't edit the ini-file because macOS will clampdown on this and render the whole installation invalid. Since the clean command seems to get passed, that is likely unnecessary.

-Dosgi.clean="true"
The issue mentioned above is this: https://github.com/spring-projects/sts4/issues/684
It is not related to OSGi, so -clean doesn't help here. The fix will be part of STS 4.12.1 release, but you could grab a nightly CI build to get the fix right away from here: http://dist.springsource.com/snapshot/STS4/nightly-distributions.html
On a related note: Once you started STS at least one you should be able to modify the .ini file without issues. If macOS still complains about it, you can remove the quarantine flag from the app:
sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine SpringToolSuite4.app
This will avoid the error message and let you start your STS4 install even after editing the content.

Severe problems on getting to work jedi vim (windows)

i have already read a lot of threads with similar topics and the tag jedi-vim here on stackoverflow and also other pages.
But this problem still keeps me from doing my actual work :-/.
Up to now I have already tried several steps back and forth, but basically I did the following:
1. Install latest Python3.4 (32bit)
2. Got this precompiled VIM: (https:// bitbucket.org/Haroogan/vim-for-windows/downloads/vim-7.4.417-python-2.7-python-3.4-ruby-2.0.0-lua-5.2-perl-5.18-windows-x86.zip) (32Bit)
3. Installed Pathogen
4. Installed Flake8 successfully
5. Installed Jedi (systemwide?) with pip
6. Got Jedi-vim from github.com/davidhalter/jedi-vim and unpacked the dir jedi-vim-master to:
6.1. $HOME/vimfiles/bundle/ only
6.2. $VIM/vimfiles/bundle/ only
6.3. BOTH
python and python3 both work (before I ONLY had python3).
So
":python3 import sys; print(sys.version)" and
":python2 import sys; print(sys.version)" give an output.
In my vimrc I force jedi-vim to use python3:
"let g:jedi#force_py_version = 3"
And now the actual error is the following:
When I type e.g. "self." in a *.py-file he searches for half a sec and says:
E117: unknown function: pythoncomplete#Complete
-- Omni completion (^O^N^P) Pattern not found
When I want to call a function and want type the parameters, something pops up / gets faded in, but it's some unclear signs and not the actual parameters.

My vimrc:

Your problem is that the jedi-vim completion function is never called.
The error message is about pythoncomplete#Complete, which is VIM's default, but it should be set to :set omnifunc=jedi#completions.
I feel like the last line in scriptnames (D:\tools\v\indent\python.vim) overwrites omnifunc. Don't know why and how it happens, but that's my gut feeling.

Unable to compile Firefox OS

Sorry about the vagueness of the question title, but I've been having problems compiling Firefox OS and am unsure where to turn (I know there's Bugzilla but I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is a bug or not)
Basically, I've been trying to compile the latest Firefox OS from source using the official instructions. I'm trying to build a system that supports the languages en-GB, en-US and tr (with en-GB as the default). My .userconfig is as follows:
export MAKE=
export CC=gcc-4.6
export CXX=g++-4.6
VARIANT=user
# GAIA l10n
export GAIA_DEFAULT_LOCALE="en-GB"
export LOCALE_BASEDIR="$PWD/locales"
export LOCALES_FILE="$PWD/locales/languages_some.json"
export GAIA_KEYBOARD_LAYOUTS="en,tr"
# Gecko l10n
export L10NBASEDIR=$PWD/gecko-locales
export MOZ_CHROME_MULTILOCALE="en-GB tr"
export PATH="$PATH:$PWD/compare-locales/scripts"
export PYTHONPATH="$PWD/compare-locales/lib"
The contents of languages_some.json is as follows:
{
"en-GB" : "English (GB)",
"en-US" : "English (US)",
"tr" : "Türkçe"
}
compare_locales contains an unmodified clone of this repo, and gecko-locales contains clones of en-GB and tr locales from the official repository (there is no 'en' or 'en-US' repository).
Now, I'm not 100% sure where the error is. I have tried searching Google for any suspect lines, but nothing has come up.
I have posted full output as a GitHub Gist. Suspect lines as far as I can tell (this is my first time compiling either Firefox or a mobile phone OS) are:
2015-03-16 16:43:12: stackwalker.cc:125: INFO: Couldn't load symbols for: |
2015-03-16 16:43:12: basic_code_modules.cc:88: INFO: No module at 0x2ab95ac94aa0
(then followed by a lot of 'No module at ...' errors)

This error is repeated a fair few times throughout the code, but I can't tell if it's harmless or if it's stopping the build.
There's also a bunch of lines about missing translations, but I imagine they're just harmless. I have tried to cut them down as much as possible (by adding the missing translations) but the problem persists.
Oh yes, and in case someone asks, I have been running with my phone plugged in, and it is visible on adb devices. I have also tried removing the out and backup-inari directories.
System specs, PC:
Debian Sid, mostly up-to-date, but running with an old version of make (build refuses to run on any version newer than 3.8)
GCC 4.6 and 4.9. export CC=gcc-4.6 set in .userconfig
G++ 4.6 and 4.9. export CXX=g++-4.6 set in .userconfig
Phone:
Original ZTE Open. This originally came with FFOS 1.0, but I have since upgraded to 1.1 by flashing the official ROM.

It's really quite simple... Why port 85432? It's outside the 16 bit unsigned integer range! I can't even enter localhost:85432 in any URL bars, Chrome just sends me straight to Google search.
That is pretty strange. I took a look at the source for the test in question, and it has this:
my $port = $ENV{HSB_TEST_PORT} || 85432;
No idea why the author chose that as the default port number, since as you know it's invalid. I guess there's zero chance of the port being in use, though!
My suggestion would be to set the environment variable HSB_TEST_PORT to something more reasonable and try to install again, and file a bug report in the meantime.

Any way to debug php4.3 or php4.4 using Apache2 on windows?

I believe I've tried every possible approach to setting up a debugging envronment in windows using apache2 and php4 but failed with all of them.
I have a couple of apache instances both for php4.3 and php4.4. I got xdebug installed on the 4.4 version (couldn't find a working module for php4.3) but it seems that there is no IDE/client that would work with the older xdebug versions. Then I switched over to the DBG approach. It simply won't load on either version. Tried the last 2 DBG windows binary releases but neither of them would load with php. phpinfo()'s output shows no sign of the DBG module, as well as command line "php -m" doesn't have it either.
I also can't seem to find a way to run php4 as fast cgi on apache 2 under windows. There's only one executable (php.exe) that goes with the php4 binaries for windows (no php-cgi.exe). My apache/php setup is:
Apache/2.0.64 (Win32) PHP/4.4.1 (phpinfo won't mention anything about thread safety, "php -i" would show thread safety as enabled"
Server API: Apache 2.0 Handler
