SelectSingleNode based on value of tag - xpath

This code works:
XmlNode Key = Site.SelectSingleNode(PathString, manager);
But what I really want is essentially:
string desiredValue="Ribeye";
XmlNode Key = Site.SelectSingleNode(PathString[Value=desiredValue], manager);
desiredValue is NOT an attribute, and the string variable will be changing between uses. So if my tag was FavoriteSteak, the XML line would be:
<FavoriteSteak>Ribeye</FavoriteSteak>
...and I want the SelectSingleNode call to return an instance of FavoriteSteak that equaled "Ribeye".
How do I write the filter?

Castle Core Invocation create a cache key from intercepted method

I'm using a interface interceptor to cache all methods that starts with "Get" but i can't figure out how to generate a unique cache key for every unknown parameter it can be anything and using GetHashCode is not an option as i can't be 100% sure that they have overridden the GetHashCode.
some thoughts was someting in the line of How can I create a unique hashcode for a JObject?
where JSON is used for a JObject i was thinking on JSON serialize every parameter then get the hash code like explained in the link above:

However i think this will be a performence hit so how can this be solved ?

I ended up using GetHashCode as it is the only viable solution if thay dont override the method it will not cache.

SpEL not able to extract attribute value from Scala object

I have a simple Scala class called Case
case class Case(

I created an instance of this class called a_case, setting id as 123. I am trying to get the value of the id attribute. I tried this

var extractedId = parser.parseExpression("'id'").getValue(context).asInstanceOf[String]
All I get is "id" in my extractedId variable. When I try to parse "id" without the single quotes, I get an exception saying the property id is not found in Case. Am I missing something here or is this a Scala issue?
SpEL can do that for you if your id has getter.

Unable to deserialize ArrayOfString back to List<string> in C#

I have seen this question asked, but have not found answers that work so I am asking it again.
I have a restful web service with a POST method that returns a serialized List.

I have also attempted a different version of the call as shown below.

Both versions of the calls generate the error provided below.
An exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Xml.dll but was not handled in user code
Additional information: There is an error in XML document (0, 0).
My Deserialize method is provided below.

The XML within the XDocument is valid, so I do not understand why this error is being generated. Also, even if I attempt to get the elements via navigation in the XDocument, it does not work. If I look at the doc.Root.value, it appears that all of the strings are concatenated together into a single string.
Does anyone have any information on how I may deserialize this XDocument into a List?
Thanks to the assistance of mellamokb, I found the problem. When my List is serialized, it is serialized into an ArrayOfstring. If I take the XML and replace ArrayOfstring with ArrayOfString, the deserialization works.
This does not make much sense. I would welcome an explanation of why this is necessary though it may have something to do with String vs string.
Essentially, I had to do the following:

Sitecore 6 WFFM: ListField value?

I am building a complex WFFM user control that extends BaseUserControl. This control has multiple fields that get prepopulated based on some business logic. One of the fields is supposed to be a drop down which shows values from a series of Sitecore items. Here is the definition of my ListField property:

When I debug this, the content of titleFieldList is a string that contains the following XML in URL encoded format:

I understand the meaning of this XML. It says that all the children of the item whose ID is that Guid are supposed to be used to populate my list, using the template field "__ID" for the value and the template field "value" for the text.
Can someone help me understand what am I supposed to do to bind an asp:DropDownList to this? Is this a particular sitecore object that has been serialized and encoded?
Is there an sc:control that can handle this?

and it works. The dropdownlist is populated with the correct data coming from the fields that were selected in the editor. I just can't believe that there is no easier way to do this. Plus how am I supposed to honor the MultipleSelectedValueField and the EmptyChoiceField if present?
Try to change the return type of your property and add attribute TypeConverter. The type specified in TypeConverter is responsible for converting raw string value to a property's return type.

How to check for null attributes in LinqToXML expressions?

I have a LinqToXML expression where I am trying to select distinct names based on similar attributes. The code is working great and I've put it below:

The problem arises since not all the attributes are required, and if one of them is omitted, for example sortAlphabetically, I get an Object not Referenced error. Makes sense, but it there a way to alter the query to only use assign the new values if the attribute actually exists? (Thereby bypassing any null pointer errors)
Instead of using the Value property (which will blow up on a null reference), simply cast the XAttribute to string - you'll either get the value, or a null reference if the XAttribute reference is null. (XElement works the same way, and this applies to all conversions to nullable types.)
So you'd have:
