I have a report in SSRS that uses a matrix with static columns.
Here are the static columns:
After generating the report, the rows with same values end up being grouped together:
Is there any way to get rid of these groups? I'd rather the values be repeated for each row, so it looks more like an excel sheet.
Here is a better picture of my report design plus the row and column groups. These groups were created when I added them to the matrix and are not needed as far as what I can tell for my report:
As you are not doing any calcuations on hte row gorups, there is no need for them.
Delete all but one of the row groups by right-clicking the rowgroup in the Row Groups pane at the bottom of the screen and choosing Delete Group. If prompted, choose Delete Group Only, otherwise it will delete the associated columns too.
When you noly have one group left, right-click it and choose Group Properties and delete the group expression, this will change it to be a details style group.
Make sure the Hide Duplicate expression is back to default (blank or None) in case you changed it earlier.
That should work. I replicated a similar scenario to your and the above step did the trick.
You will probably also need to go back to your group properties and set the sorting options to ensure data is sorted correctly.

I am wondering if you can have other tables show based on the value selected in the main table. I am not opposed to drill-down either.
My main table is the summary and was hoping to show additional data when the user clicks on a Type. When clicked another table would be visible. For example, in the screenshot, the Pool table would be visible when the Pool type is clicked in the main report. As mentioned if this is easier as a drill-down then I will do that, but not sure how. The report currently has a dataset for each table. Do I need to combine the datasets to do a drill-down?
Main and child tables
The best way to accomplish what you described is with a drill down and you would need to combine the datasets into one.
Combine your datasets
Add a table to your report and reference the single dataset
Add your detail row group to the table - from your child table (Area, Average)
Add a parent group to your details row, group your detail row group by Type, it should add a Type column to your table. Delete this column and it will ask you to delete the associated group as well. Select the option to delete only the column.
Recreate your table by adding rows, be sure to match the grouping indicators (brackets) on the left side
Right-Click on the bottom row in the box where the bracket is to highlight the entire row, click Row Visibility. For the option "when the report is initially run:", select Hide. Check "Display can be toggled by this report item" and select the name of the textbox that contains [Type]. If you don't know what this is, exit out of the dialogue box and right-click on the cell [Type] and click Textbox properties, the Name will be in there
Repeat step 6 for the label row for your details row (second row from the bottom)
How do I stop SSRS from hiding a column when previewing if the column has nothing more than empty rows? I have set all columns to be fully visible, yet the report preview does not show the empty columns. I know that this is a default feature within Visual Studio that hides all empty columns by default, so how do I change it so it can show all columns no matter what. Where can I change those settings?
If you mean the preview in the query designer of the dataset:
This is only possible when writing your own MDX since the generated code always generates a SELECT NON EMPTY for the measure axis. So removing the NON EMPTY part will always show your column/measure.
If you mean the ssrs report preview:
Columns only hide when using a table matrix with a column group. In this case make sure your dataset always returns each column group at least once, regardless of your chosen filters. E.g. if using MDX this could mean removing a NON EMPTY from your row axis or using the right-click option "include empty cells".
Clarification for comment plus possible workaround:
This "hiding columns" things is no feature. If the column isn't in the result of the dataset, SSRS can't know that this value even exists, so there is no solution if using a column group except for redesigning your query.
You could work around this by not using a column group and instead of using static "hard-coded" columns which, for example, sum the values depending on your group. See the following example screenshot i made: example
I have a problem with a rdlc page breaking and table with multiple detail rows. Tried everything that crossed my mind, none works.
As you can see on the picture below, the table has 7 detail rows.
Now, when report is rendered, the page gets spitted between, for example, rows 2 and 3 which is bad.
I wish to keep all of detail rows (that belong to one record) on the same page. How can I accomplish this?
I think you should create a group based on whatever joins the one record together, let's call it PlaceID. So right click, Add Group, choose what to group by.
Then, under the row groups you should have a group by PlaceID, and underneath that, a row marked "Details". Highlight Details in the lower section, which should highlight in the report the rows involved. Set the KeepTogether property of that section to True, should keep details on the same page.
If you don't want to use the Group option mentioned by Jerry, this option in the Table Properties may help...
I have a table with several columns. The first column contains unique data, the 5th contains three buttons (Edit, Assignments and Delete).
I would like to use an XPath expression to locate on the edit button for one of the rows by indentifying the row using the unique data from column one (think that made sense).
I have built some expressions which will allow me to locate on the first column and edit button independantly as follows:
//td[text()='Managers']
and
tr[2]//button[text()='Edit']
The closest I can get to doing what I want is:
//td[text()='Managers'] | //tr[2]//button[text()='Edit']
...However this will locate on the data/button in column 1 AND 5 at the same time, what I want is just for the button in column 5.
The reason I want to do it this way, is so later I can pass in 'Managers' as a varaible in order to select the row (as its unique and meaningful data), and then press the edit button in a different column on that row.
Hope this makes sense!
Thanks
The question isn't very clear as posted, especially because I can't see any relevant part of the HTML. But if I understand this correctly, you can try to select the row that has Manager in it then get corresponding Edit button like so :
//tr[.//td='Managers']//button[.='Edit']
I am very new to SSRS. Infact this is my 2nd report.So in SSRS, I went to Interactive Sorting and checked the "Enable interactive sort on this text box". Chose the first radio button "Detail rows".For sort by I chose "ColumnName" and clicked ok. I ended up with a sort icon on every value .The data here may seem duplicate but it is correct. I have additional 6 columns apart from this "Product" column. I repeated the sort action for all columns same way, the only difference being the different "Sort by" column. I get the icon on all columns in all rows. I want it on the header only.
Apart from that I get this warning 6 times :[rsIneffectiveSortExpressionScope] The text box ‘ColumnName’ is defined at the scope “Details”, which is identical to the scope used as SortExpressionScope. This interactive sort has no effect at runtime, since it sorts only the particular instance itself.
What is that i am doing wrong ?and what should i do to correct it?
Rt click on the textbox with the Column Name, click on
Interactive Sorting
then Check
Enable Interactive Sorting on this textbox
and then select the appropriate group you want to sort.
AFTER EDIT
if you dont have any groups yet, just select Details Row. If you have/create any group, then you need to select the radio button Group.
The sort by will actually have the column you want to sort with.
