I'm trying to use Kendo UI MultiSelect to select some stuff from an API. The API won't return all items because they are too much. It will only return those that contains the searchTerm.
I'm trying to figure out how to send the input text in a Kendo UI Multiselect. When I say the input text, I mean what the user typed in the input before selecting anything from the list. That text has to be passed on to the DataSource transport.read option.
See this Codepen to understand
https://codepen.io/emzero/pen/NYPQWx?editors=1011
Note: The example above won't do any filtering. But if you type "bre", the console should log searching bre.
Use the data property in the read transport options, this allows you to modify the query being sent by returning an object that will later on be serialized in the request.
by default read are GET requests so it will be added to the queryString of your url specified.
If it were to be a POST it would be added to the POST values.
<div id="multiselect"></div>
<script>
$('#multiselect').kendoMultiSelect({
dataTextField: 'first_name',
dataValueField: 'id',
filter: "startswith",
dataSource: {
serverFiltering: true, // <-- this is important to enable server filtering
schema: {
data: 'data'
},
transport: {
read: {
url: 'https://reqres.in/api/users',
// this callback allows you to add to the request.
data: function(e) {
// get your widget.
let widget = $('#multiselect').data('kendoMultiSelect');
// get the text input
let text = widget.input.val();
// what you return here will be in the query string
return {
text: text
};
}
}
}
}
});
</script>

I need a default value for a field that I get from a datasource, and bind to that field using an observable. (That value can then be updated if needed by the user using a treeview). I can read the initial remote datasource, build the observable and bind the value to the field. I can then pop up a dialog, show a tree and return the values. What I cant seem to do is set the value of the observable because it is based on a datasource, and therefore seems to be a much bigger and more complicated json object which I am viewing in the console. I have also had to bind differently in order to get that working as well as shown below.
Below if just a snippet, but should give an idea. The remote data source returns just: {"name":"a name string"}
<p>Your default location is currently set to: <span id="repName" data-bind="text: dataSource.data()[0].name"></span></p>
<script>
$(document).ready(function () {
var personSource2 = new kendo.data.DataSource({
schema: {
model: {
fields: {name: { type: "string" }}
}
},
transport: {
read: {
url: "https://my-domain/path/paultest.reportSettings",
dataType: "json"
}
}
});
personSource2.fetch(function(){
var data = personSource2.data();
console.log(data.length); // displays "1"
console.log(data[0].name); // displays "a name string"
var personViewModel2 = kendo.observable({
dataSource: personSource2
});
var json = personViewModel2.toJSON();
console.log(JSON.stringify(json));
observName1 = personViewModel2.get("dataSource.data.name");
console.log("read observable: "+observName1);
kendo.bind($(''#repName''), personViewModel2);
});
After a lot of playing around, I managed to get the value to bind using:
data-bind="text: dataSource.data()[0].name"
but I can't find this documented anywhere.
Where I output the observable to the console, I get a great big object, not the simple observable data structure I was expecting. I suspect I am missing something fundamental here!
I am currently just trying to read the observable above, but can't get it to return the string from the json source.
personSource2.fetch(function(){
var data = personSource2.data();
console.log(data.length); // displays "1"
console.log(data[0].name); // displays "Jane Doe"
var personViewModel2 = kendo.observable({
dataSource: personSource2
});
var json = personViewModel2.toJSON();
console.log(JSON.stringify(json));
observName1 = personViewModel2.get("dataSource.data()[0].name");
console.log("read observable: "+observName1);
personViewModel2.set("dataSource.data()[0].name","Another Value");
observName1 = personViewModel2.get("dataSource.data()[0].name");
console.log("read observable: "+observName1);
kendo.bind($(''#repName''), personViewModel2);
});
I am unable to get the built-in search for Kendo DropDownList to use the templated text instead of the raw text from the dataSource. I want to strip off the leading slash from the dataSource name for display, value, and search purposes.
<script>
$("#dropdownlist").kendoDropDownList({
dataSource: [ "/Apples", "/Oranges" ],
// None of these templates appear to fix the search text.
// Kendo is using the dataSource item to search instead of the template output.
// I want to be able to search using 'a' (for Apples) or 'o' (for Oranges).
// If I use '/' then it cycles through the items which proves to me that the search is not using templated text.
template: function(t) { return t.name.slice(1); },
valueTemplate: function(t) { return t.name.slice(1); },
optionLabelTemplate : function (t) { return t.name.slice(1); },
});
</script>
Here is a non-working sample in Kendo's UI tester:
http://dojo.telerik.com/#Jeremy/UvOFo
I cannot easily alter the dataSource on the server side.
If it's not possible to change how the search works then maybe there is a way to alter the dataSource after it's been loaded into the client from the server?
I'm not sure if this will help you at all, but I was able to force it to work. The control allows for you to subscribe to the filtering event on init. From here, you can set the value of the filter before it is submitted.
<script>
$("#dropdownlist").kendoDropDownList({
dataSource: ["/Apples", "/Oranges"],
template: function(t) { return t.slice(1); },
valueTemplate: function(t) { return t.slice(1); },
optionLabelTemplate : function (t) { return t.slice(0); },
filter: "startswith",
filtering: function(e) {
e.filter.value = '/'+e.filter.value;
}
});
</script>
I have JSON data flowing via Pusher to a simple MVC5 website housing a Kendo Grid. The data, upon arrival, renders successfully in the grid however I'm creating and setting the data source every time. As this seems sinful, I'm trying to determine why my approach to simply updating the data source doesn't render the data.
The grid:
<div id="dashboard"></div>
<script>
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#dashboard").kendoGrid({
columns: [
{ field: "SystemName", width: "50px", title: "System" },
{ field: "Description", width: "100px", title: "Description" },
{ field: "SystemStatus", width: "30px", title: "Status" }
],
height: 600,
scrollable: true,
sortable: true,
});
var dataSource = new kendo.data.DataSource();
var grid = jQuery("#dashboard").data("kendoGrid");
grid.setDataSource(dataSource);
})
</script>
My failed attempt to read in the data without creating and binding a new data source (body of a function call which does happen):
var array = JSON.parse(data.updateGrid);
var grid = jQuery("#dashboard").data("kendoGrid");
grid.dataSource.data = array;
grid.dataSource.read(array);
grid.refresh();
I have confirmed that the data arrives from Pusher correctly yet the above approach does not update the grid.
Thanks in advance for any consideration.

Use the data() method on the dataSource to set it's data.
var array = JSON.parse(data.updateGrid);
var grid = jQuery("#dashboard").data("kendoGrid");
grid.dataSource.data(array);
You can only set the string value of data on the dataSource if the source is of XML type. Since you are using JSON, you need to call the data function and pass in the new data.
See documentation... http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/data/datasource#methods-data
I have a PHP-script to handle the AJAX-Requests of many different jqGrid's.
I generate the "ORDER BY" statement with the 'sidx' and 'sord' parameters and the "LIMIT" statement with the 'page' and 'rows' parameters.
Similar to the PHP-example here.
The problem is, that in the PHP-script I can not determine if the loadonce-parameter of the current jqGrid is set or not.
But only if it is not set, I have to filter the returned data (LIMIT by page and rows).
How can I force jqGrid to send an additional parameter?
I dont want to change all my Grids. Is there a global way of doing it?
------ EDIT ------
With the help from this answers (here and here) i got this now.
$.extend($.jgrid.defaults, {
postData: {
loadingType: function() {
var isLoadonce = $("#list1").jqGrid('getGridParam', 'loadonce');
console.log('isLoadonce: ' + isLoadonce);
return isLoadonce ? 'loadAll' : 'loadChunk';
},
},
});
This works, if the Grid has the ID "list1". How can I reference the current Grid without ID?
------ EDIT 2 ------
This seems to work. It looks to me a bit like a hack. Is there a better way?
$.extend($.jgrid.defaults, {
serializeGridData: function(postData) {
var isLoadonce = $(this).jqGrid('getGridParam', 'loadonce');
var newPostData = $.extend(postData, {
loadingType: isLoadonce ? 'loadAll' : 'loadChunk'
});
return $.param(newPostData);
},
});
To pass in an extra parameter you can add:
postData: { ExtraDataName: ExtraDataValue },
then whenever jqGrid goes to get data it will pass that name pair to your controller.
With serializeGridData, jqGrid provides an event to modify the data sent with the Request. The event is called in the context of the current Grid, so we can access the current Grid with this.
By exdending $.jgrid.defaults we can make all Grids sending their loadonce parameter as additional requestparameter without changing any Grid.
$.extend($.jgrid.defaults, {
serializeGridData: function(postData) {
var isLoadonce = $(this).jqGrid('getGridParam', 'loadonce');
var newPostData = $.extend(postData, {
loadingType: isLoadonce ? 'loadAll' : 'loadChunk'
});
return $.param(newPostData);
},
});
I have a store being used by several charts. I get my data remotely with an ajax call. In the php script that I link it too, I'm just going to change the parameters of my query to adjust for the different charts.
Here's my idea: I pass the title of the chart's panel as a parameter to my php script. That'll tell me which chart it is.
How do I access the title of whatever chart the store is being used by?
var my_store = Ext.create('Ext.data.JsonStore', {
fields: ['project', 'accepted', 'rejected', 'deleted', 'undefined'],
proxy: {
type: 'ajax',
url: 'generate_proj.php',
extraParams: {foo: **chart.id**},
reader: {
type: 'json'
}
},
autoLoad: true,
listeners: {
beforeload: function(store,operation) {
//operation.params.foo = this.idname;
},
load: function(obj,records) {
var text = Ext.decode(obj.responseText);
Ext.each(records,function(rec) {
});
}
}
});
Here's what I've done so far. Getting the name of a single chart/panel is no problem. I want the store to be able to dynamically read the name of what's using it. How?
Somewhere, you have some code that switches between the various charts. During that code, you could do something like
activeChart.getChartStore().proxy.extraParams.foo = activeChart.getId();
where activeChart is whatever reference you have to the chart you are about to show. Then when you load the store, it'll send the correct parameter.
