I'm using Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition V15.8.4 and the latest Ghostdoc version available in the Marketplace (Build 2018.1.18330).
Since the last update, Ghostdoc no longer recognizes any assigned shortcut. Whenever any shortcut other than Ctrl+Shift+D is assigned, on 'document this' Ghostdoc says 'Ghostdoc noticed that you don't have a shortcut associated with Document This. Do you want to re-assign the Ctrl+Shift+D shortcut?'.
It doesn't matter how the shortcut is assigned (Tools => Options => Keyboard or Ghostdoc re-assign shortcut). The error also pops up if I use the menu rather than the shortcut to document something.
The shortcuts tried are not used anywhere else, and I also get the error if I assign one of the shortcuts suggested by Ghostdoc.
If I uninstall Ghostdoc for VS 2017, there still remains Ghostdoc Community which has no option to uninstall. Disabling it makes no difference and trying to document something only using this edition, it always says 'action cannot be performed, VS still loading the project', even after the project is clearly fully loaded.
If I assign a shortcut and cancel the '...re-assign the Ctrl+Shift+D shortcut?' popup, commenting with the new shortcut actually works.
Does anyone know why this might be happening and how it can be fixed. If not, is it possible to manually add the shortcut somewhere, e.g. the settings file?
Serge B. here, I'm with SubMain (the GhostDoc company).
From what you are describing you may have the MSI version of GhostDoc installed. Please uninstall it in Progmas and Features.
This KB article describes different symptom but the solution is the same - https://support.submain.com/kb/a53/troubleshooting-vsix-installation-issues.aspx
My advice is to uninstall both MSI (Programs and Files) and VSIX (VS Extensions and Updates), then install the latest GhostDoc Community we recently released. It includes a fix with the shortcut assignment which may be related to the issue you are experiencing.
Thanks!

What is the inline hints on/off shortcut in visual studio 2022?
I checked these checkboxes and it works but the shortcut Alt+F1 not work. (Visual Studio Community 2022 (64-bit) - Preview
Version 17.2.0 Preview 2.1)
I found your question because I was having the same issue. I think I've figured out what's going on.
Are you coding in C# or C/C++ ?
If you're doing C#, HOLDING DOWN the alt-F1 keys will TEMPORARILY show ALL the types of hints available; i.e. those you haven't told it to show all the time. When you release alt-F1 the 'extra' hints will disappear. If, as in your image, you've chosen to show almost everything all the time, holding down alt-F1 probably won't display anything different. (try diabling some of the stuff below the first line and see if there's a difference when you hold down alt-F1)
On my system it reacts rather slowly; if you just tap quickly you might not see any change.
(if that doesn't work, you might want to check to see if any extensions you're using are overriding the alt-F1 shortcut)
If you're using C/C++ the inline hints works a bit differently. Here alt-F1 or ctrl-ctrl can TOGGLE hints.
The options settings for C/C++ are located in "Text Editor/ C/C++ / IntelliSense", and the list of inline hint settings are quite a bit more limited than those listed for C#.
On vanilla Visual Studio 2022 press ctrl twice.
If you are using Visual Assist press Alt + F1
I have VS2012 Pro installed, and there is no "Format Document" feature under Edit -> Advanced. I used this all the time in VS2010, and would like to continue using it. Is it just not available in the Pro version of 2012?
It is missing from the menu but you can still access is via shortcut
Ctrl+E,D
If you're talking about other types of files other than .cs, I think VS will generally go by the file extension.
I was trying to edit a .txt file with xml in it and couldn't get the menu option or the shortcut keys to work. Then renamed the file to .xml and all was good.
In VS2012 the command is there as well. It depends on the current settings. I still have it under Edit -> Advanced where it shows the Ctrl + E + D shortcut that is assigned to it.
Please check the following:
Go to Tools -> Options -> Keyboard and check which additional keyboard mapping scheme is applied in the drop down on top. For me it states "Visual C# 2005"
Then, as Jarek already suggested search in the 'Show command containing' for 'Edit.FormatDocument' and see if there is a shortcut assigned now.
Which kind of environment have you choosen when installing VS 2012? Was it for C#? If you want to change that you can do it unter Tools -> Import and Export Settings as described here
Last but not least I'm not sure any more if this function actually is part of Visual Studio 2012 itself (I'm 98% sure it is, but 98 is not 100) so please check if installing the PowerCommands extension solves this issue (Even though the name suggests that they are only for VS 2010 they also support VS 2012). Note that the PowerCommands are also integrated now in the ProductivityPowerTools directly.
It's called "Reformat Selection" in XML Editor toolbar.
I installed Coderush express and I can see that it is installed. (I can see that Camel Case Navigation works). But I can see any other feature works. Based on this page: http://community.devexpress.com/blogs/markmiller/archive/2009/06/25/coderush-xpress-for-c-and-visual-basic-2008.aspx
I cannot see any of these feature to works:
Tab to Next Reference : no effect when I put caret on a variable and press tab ( a tab inserted at the middle of my variable name!)
Highlight All References: pressing ctrl+alt +u add a ascii character to source code.
Quick Navigation: Ctrl +Shift + Q has no effect.
Quick File Navigation : Ctrl +Alt +F brings up F# interactive
Selection Increase and Selection Reduce doesn't work: generate a beep
Declare: ctrl +` has no effect.
and ...
Any idea why this is happening? I am using VS2010.
Presumably due to your using a different version of Visual Studio.
The page you linked to is pretty clear about it being for Visual Studio 2008, but you've included the visual-studio-2010 tag.
CodeRush Xpress fully supports all language features of Visual Basic and C# in Visual Studio 2008.
Edit
Version of Visual Studio wasn't the problem after all.
It appears to just be that the tool makes very little visible change to the Visual Studio user interface, so it looks like it hasn't loaded.
It seems that your installation is corrupt. I would recommend you contact DevExpress Support directly. The support team is better equipped to resolve any issues you face with their products. They offer a very short response time and high qualification. I would also recommend that you reinstall the product.
The features you are asking about, were removed on purpose from VS2010 version of Coderush XPress. More info here:
Experience with Coderush XPress and Visual Studio 2010?
I'm running Visual Studio 2010 (10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel) with ReSharper 5.1 (5.1.3000.12). Recently, it seems as though ReSharper has completely lost the ability to navigate to a type.
Here are some actions I can take in the UI that now do nothing:
Right-click on type name in code
editor and select "Go To
Declaration"
Right-click on type name in code
editor and select "Go To
Implementation"
R# "Go to type" (Ctrl-T)
In the R# "Find Results" window, double-clicking a type
Here are some actions that still work:
Double-clicking an item in Solution Explorer
Opening a file from VS Command Window
I've completely uninstalled Visual Studio, then reinstalled it with SP1, and ReSharper 5.1, and I still have the same problem.
I'm assuming there's some kind of configuration open that I've done that is disabling the ability to navigate to a type with ReSharper, I just can't figure out what it is.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I just experienced this problem. None of the previous suggestions worked for me unfortunately, but I managed to resolve it:
Go to Resharper -> Options
Under Keyboard Shortcuts, temporarily switch to a different scheme than the one selected
Press 'Apply Scheme' button then press Save
hen repeat, but this time select the scheme you actually want and press 'Apply Scheme'
Hopefully that fixes it!
I am using VS 2010 SP1 (same as you)
Delete the Resharper temp files in the same location as your solution file. The folder name will be something like _ReSharper.SomeSolution
Failing that, try one of the R# nightly builds here altho it should work with your current config.
I installed the RC of VS2010 side-by-side with VS2008 SP1. VS2010 Intellisense appears to be broken, or at least not functioning as expected. I can only get intellisense if I hit CTRL + spacebar. Then after selecting the memebr from the intellisense list, hit the period again, and then CTRL + space again.
If intellisense broken or just turned off? How do I fix it?
Update #1 - I do have Resharper 4.5 installed on VS2008.
UPDATE #2 - I installed the hot fix. No go. Then, I looked at the options under Tools > Options > Text Editor. As it turns out, under Statement Completion, the option to Auto list members was unchecked. Once I checked that option, intellisense was functioning as expected.
Under Tools > Options > Text Editor > LANGUAGE > under Statement Completion group, select the option to "Auto list members".
They're patching issues with intellisense.

-- Edit --
As pointed out by the comments below, this is not the same issue. I was just pointing out that MS is fixing issues with intellisense. It might not be worth beating yourself up looking for a misconfiguration on your system.
Did you have ReSharper installed with Visual Studio 2008? ReSharper (in VS2008) turns off Intellisense explicitly in order to replace it with their own.
If this is the case, you can turn it back on with the options under Tools->Options->Text Editor->[language] (and sometimes also under the Intellisense node under each language).
For example, for C#, the first checkbox under Tools->Options->Text Editor->C#->Intellisense is "Show completion list after a character is typed". Make sure that is checked.
