How to use regular expression with a property value in testcomplete - vbscript

I'm from UFT background. I've just started using testcomplete yesterday. My manager told me to evaluate this tool.
I've come to a place where I have to use regular expression with a property value. Here's the code:
Aliases.HX01W00W.Window("IEFWINDOW", "Outbound Service - 0092020203030303 1 2", 1).Window("IEFWINDOW", "Service", 1).Window("Edit", "NY", 149)
This line of code works perfectly. I can set a value in the edit box. I can also get a property value from this object. However, if you can see, this part of the code always changes: Window("IEFWINDOW", "Outbound Service - 0092020203030303 1 2", 1).
Only, the word Service doesn't change.
I've tried changing that piece of code to:
Window("IEFWINDOW", ".*Service.*", 1)
Window("IEFWINDOW", "*Service*", 1)
In UFT this line: Window("text:=.*Service.*")identifies the window.
How can I use regular expression on this part of the code so I can interact with this object?
If someone can provide similar piece of code that actually works would be highly appreciated.

Wildcards should work for you:
Window("IEFWINDOW", "*Service*", 1)
Anyway, you can use regular expressions as well:
Aliases.HX01W00W.FindChild(Array("WndClass", "WndCaption"), Array("IEFWINDOW", "regexp:.*Service.*"))

Proper way to assert text in Selenium Webdriver/RSpec

So im writing a framework in pure selenium-webdriver and am curious what the proper way to assert text exists (Such as in an alert message for instance on an invalid login for example). Specifically with RSpec.
I can think of two ways that comes to mind. Doing something like so:
text_to_check = driver.find_element(locator).text and then doing something like expect(text_to_check).to be("Bad Login text") The locator in this case would probably be xpath or css locator I guess? Although I feel like xpath would probably make more sense (Im not super familiar with xpath tbh though)
Use the driver.page_source() and then check against that....but that seems brittle if that text exists somewhere else on the page. Also it seems unnecessary to do that and pull in the whole page source to check what is essentially one element.

How to trim text and use it as parameter for next step in watir using ruby

This may be very simple question but I am very new to ruby or any programming language. I want to trim some text and use it as parameter for next step. Can any one please write me code for doing this. I am testing a web application which is used in financial domain. I need to use the cvv2 and expiry date of card number which is generated in next step as parameter. The text which gets displayed on html is
CVV2 - 657  Expiry - 05/12 (mm/yy)
Now from the above text I should some how get only '657' and '0512' as value to use is in next step.
Request for urgent assistance.
If all your strings will be formatted like this, I suggest using regexp, using String#gsub. There's lots of places to learn about regexp if you don't already, and rubular allows you to test it in your browser, with a short cheat sheet.
To do it quickly you could use
card_details = "CVV2 - 657 Expiry - 05/12 (mm/yy)"
card_details = card_details.scan(/\d{2,}/)
cvv2 = card_details[0]
expiry = card_details[1] + card_details[2]
Probably better ways of doing it as I'm no expert, but you said urgent, so.
For getting the text out of the cell you could try (I don't use the original watir anymore, so I might not be able to remember this):
card_details = browser.td(:text => /CVV2/).text
If that doesn't work give this a try (actually on second thought TRY THIS ONE FIRST)
card_details = browser.cell(:text => /CVV2/).text
For these examples I'm assuming your browser object is called "browser".
We can use regular expression to achieve the same,
> "CVV2 - 657 Expiry - 05/12 (mm/yy)".match(/\d{3}/)
=> "657"

JMeter does not replace ${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1} with its value

It's a long story, but I will try make it simple:
I generated MeterMaid XML files with SugarMMM; I chose only the Accounts module:
I converted above files to JMeter format with MeterMaid (I consolidated the tests into one file and named it "filename.xml"):
ruby GenMeter.rb --inputfile=filename.xml --outputfile=filename.jmx
I did the necessary CSV setup. All the CSV file contains is the login details (usr,pwd) for testing concurrent user logins. This part works well indeed.
When I run the test, I can see that a whole bunch of ${} variables are converted into corresponding values. Sadly, ${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1} doesn't get resolved... here's what the GET url (from View Results Tree Listener component) looks like:

Verify in your CSV dataset config, all variables are declared correctly (no typos, no omissions, no spaces before variable names, etc.)
I would also suggest putting a debug sampler high in your tree, as it will show you every variable and its value and can save a lot of time.
Edit:
It looks like your regex is setup incorrectly for creating multiple groups. If you look in your Debug sampler, you have SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE=Accounts but not SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1= . This implies you don't have GROUPS setup.
In looking at your regex, the line template: $0$ is saying "only give me one group", whereas it looks like you want 4. Thus, you should try template: $1$$2$$3$$4$ the first match should be _g1 the second _g2 and so on. Check out the manual for details.
make judicious use of the ${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1} variable throughout the script after it gets defined by the Regular Expression Extractor. Verify it exists. Use it in Controller titles, test headings, at the beginning of tests, and at the end of tests.
That will help narrow it down
This way you can follow it along in the script to make sure it exists just before the moment it is used, and find where it's breaking down. Basically print statement debugging.
I don't know about sugar CRM or metermaid but for jmeter I had a similar problem with variable that were not resolve.
Check if this variable is declared somewhere or maybe you need to write a reg ex to extract that value from the previous request.
The problem I got It was that I extracted the variable from a CSV files
the variable name was CONTRACTNO, CLIENTNO
my URL : /SomeURL/bla?eventId=contractSelected&contractNoSelected=${CONTRACTNO}&applicationID=BLa
And it wasn't working so I changed the variable name in the csv file to :
CONTRACTNO,CLIENTNO (look that I removed a space)
Jmeter tend to be very picky with space in name and variable definition.
You are expecting the following values
${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1}
but you have configured the Regular Expression Extractor reference name as
"SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE"
There two options you can get the values
You have to change the ${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE_g1} into ${SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE}
You have to change the Regular Expression Extractor reference name as "SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE _g1" to "SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE"
After this your values will be replaced properly.
It looks like your regular expression isn't picking up a match, your default value is set to "Accounts" and in your debug output that's the value of the variable. You'll only get match groups if the regular expression matches.
The View Results Tree listener now has a RegExp tester, so you can go to the request that you're trying to extract the variable SUBPANEL_RELATE_MODULE from the result in the results tree and choose RegExp Tester from the dropdown where it says "Text".
You can then run your regular expression on the response data in the RegExp tester and probably find that it doesn't match and then hone your regular expression so that it matches and update it in your Regular Expression Extractor.

JMeter "if controller" with parameters?

I was reading the JMeter documentation and came across this info box about "If Controllers":
No variables are made available to the script when the condition is interpreted as Javascript. If you need access to such variables, then select "Interpret Condition as Variable Expression?" and use a __javaScript() function call. You can then use the objects "vars", "log", "ctx" etc. in the script.
I don't quite follow this. Does this mean if I want access to a "User Defined Parameter" then I can access it only by writing some JavaScript? The example that follows this box then refers to "${COUNT}"
Could someone clarify the usage of the If Controller, maybe with an example or two?
All these answers are wrong! You need to put the variable reference in quotes, like so:
"${my_variable}"=="foo"
You can simply use something like
${my_variable}=='1'
Sometimes JMeter documentation can be confusing :)

"Interpret condition as variable expression"
I wasted a couple of hours without unchecking this checkbox. It worked with and without semicolon(;) at the end of the statement. Make sure that you have set the User-Defined Variables before calling the if controller.
All the following variations worked for me in Jakarta Jmeter 1.5
${__javaScript("${HOMEPAGE}"=="Y")}
${__javaScript("${HOMEPAGE}"=="Y")};
"${HOMEPAGE}"=="Y"
"${HOMEPAGE}"=="Y";
If Controller will internally use javascript to evaluate the condition but this can have a performance penalty.
A better option (default one starting from JMeter 4, see https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=61675) is to check "Interpret Condition as Variable Expression?", then in the condition field you have 2 options:
Option 1 : Use a variable that contains true or false. For example If you want to test if last sample was successful, you can use
${JMeterThread.last_sample_ok}
or any variable you want that contains true/false
${myVar}
Option 2 : Use a function (${__jexl3()} is advised) to evaluate an expression that must return true or false.
For example if COUNT is equal to 1:
${__jexl3("${COUNT}"== "1",)}
OR
${__jexl3(${COUNT}== 1,)}
Starting with 4.0, if you don't use the "Interpret Condition as Variable Expression?", a warning in RED will be displayed:

Using the quotes was my solution.
As Gerrie said you need to check your variable
${my_var} == 'value'
But be careful with the 'User Defined Variables'
Note that all the UDV elements in a
test plan - no matter where they are -
are processed at the start.
That basically means that you cannot define 'User Defined Variables' inside an 'If Controller'. Take a look to the 'BeanShell' instead.
Replace:
${my_variable}=='1'
with
"${my_variable}" == "1"
if it's string value pass as below and its performance effective
${__groovy("${key}"=="value")}
I have used ${code_g1}== 200 in condition and it worked for me.

Xcode 3.2 Debug: Seeing whats in an array?

Whilst debugging in Xcode_3.1.2 I am pretty sure I could see the contents of my NSString arrays. However after upgrading to 3.2 I only see the following ...
I know I can print the object in (gdb) using "po planetArray" or simply click in the debugger and "print description to console" I am just curious, as I am sure it worked prior to upgrading. Anyone know anything about this?

This is because GDB acts as if the variable you are viewing is out of scope while it really just is confused about what each part function or method call of the data formatter is returning (the data formatter is the "{(unichar *)Xcode_CFStringSummary($VAR, $ID)}:s" part you are seeing.
When you are debugging and you are in a method where you know a local variable must be in scope right now, open the debugger window and the area where you can see "Variable", "Value" and "Summary" column titles double click the "Summary" row entry for the variable you are interested in and enter the following (for array types like NSArray or NSCFArray):
"{(int)[$VAR count]} objects {(NSString *)[(NSArray *)$VAR description]}:s"
then press return. You have now overwritten the default data formatter provided by Xcode's GDB extension (to be found in various plists at "/Developer/Library/Xcode/CustomDataViews/") with your own data formatter string.
Your own overrides are saved at "~/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/CustomDataViews/CustomDataViews.plist" and if you want to have the Apple default data formatter back just double click the row for a variable of the same type and delete whatever is there.
The nitty-gritty details: In the custom expression above the "{}" construct tells GDB to execute a command (as if you where executing it from GDB's debugger command line, which means the same restrictions apply: you need to specify the return type in cast parens in front of every function or method which returns something). The ":s" behind the closing curly brace tells Xcode and GDB to reference the "Summary" column. Also valid would be ":v" which references the "Value" column which most of the time is just the pointer value. Everything that is outside of the curly braces is shown verbatim.
Unfortuntely curly braces can't be nested which invalidates ternary operator conditionals.
So with the above data formatter you should see the following for an empty NSArray:
"0 objects (\n)"
If you want to write your own data formatters as GDB extensions (equivalent to specifying a function akin to Xcode_CFStringSummary above) you can do so. Take a look at the following header: "/Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/PlugIns/GDBMIDebugging.xcplugin/Contents/Headers/DataFormatterPlugin.h"
it will tell you all you need to know. But it can be hard to get it right. It might be easier and less error prone to just define another method on your class and call that from the data formatter string instead of "description".
In the Run > Variables View menu in Xcode, is "Use Data Formatters" enabled?
I am not sure if this helps but if you select the array value to wish to see in the debugger window and the go to the Menu : Run > Variables View > View Variable As
you can change it from "NSCFString *" to "NSString *". You then see the value so "Planet_1" for example.
