Error activating tensorflow virtual environment - bash

I couldn't activate TensorFlow env on Ubuntu(16.04 LTS) bash
I have tried "activate tensorflow" and source "activate tensorflow", but it did not work
"activate tensorflow" and
"source activate tensorflow" not working
I expect this : (tensorflow)$
but I'am getting this:
"activate tensorflow" display: /home/user/anaconda3/bin/activate: 5: /home/user/anaconda3/envs/tensorflow/etc/conda/activate.d/activate-binutils_linux-64.sh: Syntax error: "(" unexpected
while "source activate tensorflow" displays nothing, though my TensorFlow environment is active.

Could you try creating a virtual environment using command in terminal virtualenv myenv. If virtualenv is not installed then install it using pip install virtualenv and run the above mentioned command again.
After creating it, open it using source myenv/bin/activate. Now you must be in the environment. If you see (myenv) on the left side in terminal then yes you are.
Now install TF using pip install tensorflow and you are good to go.

How about these three steps?
$ sudo apt-get install python-pip python-dev python-virtualenv
$ virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/tensorflow
$ source ~/tensorflow/bin/activate

Basemap install on mac without fink (I tried everything I can google)

I am a Python Noob. (Using Mac OS 10.12 & Python 3.7)
I'm trying to use mpl_toolkits.basemap
to execute the code
from mpl_toolkits.basemap import Basemap
I googled the way to get matplotlib and successfully installed it.
However, while it's possible to run "from mpl_toolkits.basemap import Basemap" in terminal on mac,
it fails to be loaded if I run the command within IDLE.
Then, I googled to figure out the issue and got the hint that
it could be resolved if I install Basemap properly.
To install Basemap, I think I need to go with "FINK".
However, Fink is only available up to 10.5 OS while mine is 10.12.
And FINK website says do not update OS before upgrading FINK.
However, it's too late for me.
Cause I updated my OS longtime ago and recently I started to learn Python Using Mac.
So I guess, if there is a way to install Basemap not using apt-get,
(the codes below is from "Python basemap module impossible to import")
sudo apt-get install libgeos-3.5.0
sudo apt-get install libgeos-dev
sudo pip install https://github.com/matplotlib/basemap/archive/master.zip
I think my issue could be cleared.
Since I'm really really noob, I'm not sure this is the reason for my failing in "from mpl_toolkits.basemap import Basemap".
What I tried so far is
1) brew install basemap
with the error of
Error: No available formula with the name "basemap"
==> Searching for a previously deleted formula (in the last month)... Warning: homebrew/core is shallow clone. To get complete history run:
git -C "$(brew --repo homebrew/core)" fetch --unshallow
2) pip install basemap
with the error of
Requirement already satisfied
3) sudo pip install https://github.com/matplotlib/basemap/archive/master.zip
with the error of
Command "python setup.py egg_info" failed with error code 1 in
/private/tmp/pip-install-lux494o4/pyproj/
4) conda install basemap
with the following message of
All requested packages already installed.
5) conda install -c conda-forge basemap
with the following message
Preparing transaction: done Verifying transaction: done Executing
transaction: done
Can anyone help to install basemap properly so that I could run
"from mpl_toolkits.basemap import Basemap"
in my IDLe?
My IDLE Sheel keeps saying
Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in
from mpl_toolkits.basemap import Basemap ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'mpl_toolkits.basemap'
while my terminal doesn't have problem with running the code.
Appreciate it in advance.
any luck? I spent the day battling this as well. I had the most success when I tried downloading an older version of basemap.
I was using python 2.7 and this worked okay sudo -H pip2 install https://github.com/matplotlib/basemap/archive/v1.1.0.tar.gz
For python 3 try replacing pip2 with pip3 or pip.
Ran into this myself today my solution:
install libgeos on mac
brew install geos
then as you suggested use pip to install mpl_tools:
pip3 install -q https://github.com/matplotlib/basemap/archive/master.zip
This also may help:
missing libgeos_c.so on OSX
Firstly, I suggest you to set Anaconda up. Then follow below steps;
Create a new environment in anaconda.
Install Jupyter Notebook and launch it. If it works, turn it off.
Change your anaconda environment in your terminal.
Try installation commands below;
conda install ...
conda install forge ...
pip install ...

How do i install TensorFlow in MacOS 10.13 High Sierra?

I tried below command but it doesn't worked.!!
virtualenv --system-site-packages ~/tensorflow
-bash: virtualenv: command not found
The error virtualenv: command not found tells you exactly what is wrong. You need to install virtualenv to use it. Once you install it the command above should work. Then you will need to activate your virtual environment and use pip to install tensorflow.

Dependency issue with conda, pip and virtualenv

I am using conda(anaconda 2). Before installing anaconda, my Ubuntu16.04 already had pip installed. I recently installed virtualenv using pip install virtualenv. I did the following steps while trying to install coala in my virtual environment.
Create a new virtual environment using virtualenv venv
Activate environment using source activate path/to/activate
Clone the coala repository.
Run pip3 install -e . while inside the repository
After all this, I get the following error from coala:
There is a conflict in the version of a dependency you have installed and the requirements of coala. This may be resolved by creating a separate virtual environment for coala or running `pip install "yapf~=0.14.0"`. Be aware that the latter solution might break other python packages that depend on the currently installed version.
I am already in a virtualenv, so I tried installing yapf as per the command: pip install "yapf~=0.14.0". After that, when I check my pip list, it still showed yapf (0.15.2), To solve this, I did:
pip uninstall yapf
pip install "yapf~=0.14.0"
Now when I check my pip list, I get the desired results. BUT, the error is still there. It still shows the same dependency error. I am unable to understand what is happening? Which pip is installing what and where, what is conda doing behind the scenes, how is virtualenv behaving with conda, and the most important, why this error and how to resolve it?
first create a virtualenv pertaining to python3.x
template
virtualenv -p {location of python3 version } {name of virtualenv folder}
like this
virtualenv -p /usr/local/bin/python3 venv
then activate it
source venv/bin/activate
then run
pip install {library you want to use}
pip install "yapf~=0.14.0"
This should install yapf into the venv folder.
try that let us know.
Answering my own question, what I found out was that conda and virtualenv do not go hand in hand. condas has the ability to create it's own virtual environment, and if using condas, we must create a conda virtual environment(See this answer).
What I did was uninstalled conda and make a virtual environment using virtualenv. What I could have done as well is uninstall virtualenv and create condas environment and work in that.

How can I install iterm2 bash-it themes?

The instructions aren't too newbie friendly. At least not for me.
Here is the github repo for bash-it: https://github.com/Bash-it/bash-it
I was able to clone the repo and run it.
Immediately once I close then reopen iterm I get the following errors. How can I resolve these?
I tried simply entering:
install argcomplete
sudo install argcomplete
sudo pip install argcomplete
nothing works.
Ultimately I want to install themes, specifically Zork: https://github.com/Bash-it/bash-it/wiki/Themes
The instructions simply say, export the BASH_IT_THEME variable. It doesn't tell you how. Then it says to define the following ... in your shell, but not how.
Can anyone help here?
Exporting a variable is simply done through
export variable
Exporting a Variable means it won't be just active in your currently opened shell but will also be available in programs that are being ran from that shell.
So for the Zork theme, do the following:
export BASH_IT_THEME='Zork'
To install pip (a packet manager for python), do the following:
sudo apt-get install python-pip
Afterwards, install pygments via
sudo pip install Pygments
argcomplete needs to be installed via pip as well:
pip install argcomplete

IPython command not found Terminal OSX. Pip installed

Using Python 2.7 installed via homebrew. I then used pip to install IPython. So, IPython seems to be installed under:
/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/
I think this is true because there is a IPython directory and ipython egg.
However, when I type ipython in the terminal I get:
-bash: ipython: command not found
I do not understand why this ONLY happens with IPython and not with python? Also, how do I fix this? What path should I add in .bashrc? And how should I add?
Currently, my .bashrc reads:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin/
Thanks!
I had this issue too, the following worked for me and seems like a clean simple solution:
pip uninstall ipython
pip install ipython
I'm running mavericks and latest pip
Check IPython whether is installed by below command:
$python -m IPython
If you got this result as above picture.
Then run this command on terminal and add into ~/.bash_profile file
$alias ipython='python -m IPython'
So try run "ipython" again on terminal. It works fine for me.
Reference topics:
ipython on MacOS 10.10 - command not found
iPython installed but not found
Create .pydistutils.cfg in your homedir with following content:
[global]
verbose=1
[install]
install-scripts=$HOME/bin
[easy_install]
install-scripts=$HOME/bin
And then: pip install -U --user ipython. Of course $HOME/bin must be in your $PATH. Packages are going to be installed in $HOME/Library/Python, so user only, not system wide.
Try run brew install ipython:
then run xcode-select --install;
run brew install git,
If you got this result as above picture. Refer to enter link description here
At last, run brew install ipython
I use pip3 install ipython is OK.
maybe ipython rely on python3
After trying to a number of solutions like above with out joy, when I restarted my terminal, Ipython command launched. Don't forgot to restart your terminal after all the fiddling!
P.S. I think the brew install Ipython did it ... but can't be sure.
For me the only thing that helped was:
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
Upgrading pip did the work and all the installations started working properly!
Give it a try.
