H2 recursive call not recognizing column - h2

I have the below code and the database says that it can't see column n.
I have same problem when I use real database tables. But with real table I'm not even aliasing the column.

CTEs are experimental in H2 and have different issues. Actually you don't need them here. In H2 you can use
SELECT * FROM SYSTEM_RANGE(1, 10);
In both PostgreSQL and H2 you can use the PosgtreSQL-specific
SELECT * FROM GENERATE_SERIES(1, 10);
If you need to change the column name to N add a derived column list T(N) after the function.
SELECT * FROM GENERATE_SERIES(1, 10) T(N);
But if you still want to use a CTE, add column name(s) to the WITH clause and optionally remove the alias from the constant, if will not be required in that case:
WITH RECURSIVE counter(n) AS (
SELECT 1
UNION ALL
SELECT n + 1 FROM counter WHERE n < 10
)
SELECT * from counter;

I faced same error. My unit test was failling (using h2 2.1.210).
My conclusion to avoid error like "org.h2.jdbc.JdbcSQLSyntaxErrorException: Column "XXXXX" not found" was:
add the list of your column names after CTE name as "AS" keyword
don't name your CTE "CTE"

I have a column named voucher_number. The data in this column looks like

multiply records acrross a rows - pl/sql [duplicate]

In SQL there are aggregation operators, like AVG, SUM, COUNT. Why doesn't it have an operator for multiplication? "MUL" or something.
I was wondering, does it exist for Oracle, MSSQL, MySQL ? If not is there a workaround that would give this behaviour?
By MUL do you mean progressive multiplication of values?
Even with 100 rows of some small size (say 10s), your MUL(column) is going to overflow any data type! With such a high probability of mis/ab-use, and very limited scope for use, it does not need to be a SQL Standard. As others have shown there are mathematical ways of working it out, just as there are many many ways to do tricky calculations in SQL just using standard (and common-use) methods.

The POWER form allows for larger numbers (using bases larger than Euler's number), and in cases where the result grows too large to turn it back using POWER, you can return just the logarithmic value and calculate the actual number outside of the SQL query

Ingredients:
taking the abs() of data, if the min is 0, multiplying by whatever else is futile, the result is 0
When data is 0, NULLIF converts it to null. The abs(), log() both return null, causing it to be precluded from sum()
If data is not 0, abs allows us to multiple a negative number using the LOG method - we will keep track of the negativity elsewhere
Working out the final sign
sign(data) returns 1 for >0, 0 for 0 and -1 for <0.
We add another 0.5 and take the sign() again, so we have now classified 0 and 1 both as 1, and only -1 as -1.
again use NULLIF to remove from COUNT() the 1's, since we only need to count up the negatives.
% 2 against the count() of negative numbers returns either
--> 1 if there is an odd number of negative numbers
--> 0 if there is an even number of negative numbers
more mathematical tricks: we take 1 or 0 off 0.5, so that the above becomes
--> (0.5-1=-0.5=>round to -1) if there is an odd number of negative numbers
--> (0.5-0= 0.5=>round to 1) if there is an even number of negative numbers
we multiple this final 1/-1 against the SUM-PRODUCT value for the real result

To create an aggregate function on MySQL, you'll need to build an .so (linux) or .dll (windows) file. An example is shown here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/mygroupconcat.aspx
I'm not sure about mssql and oracle, but i bet they have options to create custom aggregates as well.
You'll break any datatype fairly quickly as numbers mount up.
Using LOG/EXP is tricky because of numbers <= 0 that will fail when using LOG. I wrote a solution in this question that deals with this

Using the data from a for loop as a table in the From in a Select

I am converting some code in Access over to Oracle, and one of the queries in Access uses a table that I am unable to use in Oracle. I am unable to create new tables, so I am trying to figure out a way to use the logic behind the table in the FOR section of my select.
The logic of the table is similar to:
FOR i = 1 To 100
number = number + 1
.AddNew
!tbl_number = number
NEXT i
I'm trying to convert this to oracle, and so far I have:
FOR i in 1 .. 100 LOOP
number := number + 1;
--This is where I am stuck; How do I simulate the table part

I was thinking a cursor or a record would be the answer, but I can't seem to figure out how to implement that. In the end I basically want to have:

The calculation is a bit more complicated; that was just an example. They aren't actually sequential, and there isn't really a pattern to rows.

You could use a recursive query (assuming you are on Oralce 11gR2 or later):

In the Anchor section set all the values for your first record. Then in the Recursive section setup the logic to determine the next records values as a function of the prior records values.
The Anchor section could select the initial values from some other table rather than being hard coded as in my example.
The recursive section needs to select from the named subquery (in this case example) but may also join to other tables as needed.
You need to generate a set with sequential integer numbers. Maybe you can use this (for Oracle 10g and above):

How to get records randomly from the oracle database?

I need to select rows randomly from an Oracle DB.
Ex: Assume a table with 100 rows, how I can randomly return 20 of those records from the entire 100 rows.

SAMPLE() is not guaranteed to give you exactly 20 rows, but might be suitable (and may perform significantly better than a full query + sort-by-random for large tables):
SELECT *
FROM table SAMPLE(20);
Note: the 20 here is an approximate percentage, not the number of rows desired. In this case, since you have 100 rows, to get approximately 20 rows you ask for a 20% sample.
SELECT * FROM table SAMPLE(10) WHERE ROWNUM <= 20;
This is more efficient as it doesn't need to sort the Table.
SELECT column FROM
( SELECT column, dbms_random.value FROM table ORDER BY 2 )
where rownum <= 20;
In summary, two ways were introduced
1) using order by DBMS_RANDOM.VALUE clause
2) using sample([%]) function
The first way has advantage in 'CORRECTNESS' which means you will never fail get result if it actually exists, while in the second way you may get no result even though it has cases satisfying the query condition since information is reduced during sampling.
The second way has advantage in 'EFFICIENT' which mean you will get result faster and give light load to your database.
I was given an warning from DBA that my query using the first way gives loads to the database
You can choose one of two ways according to your interest!
In case of huge tables standard way with sorting by dbms_random.value is not effective because you need to scan whole table and dbms_random.value is pretty slow function and requires context switches. For such cases, there are 3 additional methods:
1: Use sample clause:

2: if you have an index/primary key on the column with normal distribution, you can get min and max values, get random value in this range and get first row with a value greater or equal than that randomly generated value.

To randomly select 20 rows I think you'd be better off selecting the lot of them randomly ordered and selecting the first 20 of that set.
Something like:

Best used for small tables to avoid selecting large chunks of data only to discard most of it.
Here's how to pick a random sample out of each group:

I'm not sure how efficient it is, but if you have a lot of categories and sub-categories, this seems to do the job nicely.

Is there any way to get around the Oracle 10g limitation of 1000 items in a static IN clause? I have a comma delimited list of many of IDs that I want to use in an IN clause, Sometimes this list can exceed 1000 items, at which point Oracle throws an error. The query is similar to this...
select * from table1 where ID in (1,2,3,4,...,1001,1002,...)
Put the values in a temporary table and then do a select where id in (select id from temptable)
select column_X, ... from my_table

I am almost sure you can split values across multiple INs using OR:
select * from table1 where ID in (1,2,3,4,...,1000) or
ID in (1001,1002,...,2000)
You may try to use the following form:
select * from table1 where ID in (1,2,3,4,...,1000)
union all
select * from table1 where ID in (1001,1002,...)
Where do you get the list of ids from in the first place? Since they are IDs in your database, did they come from some previous query?
When I have seen this in the past it has been because:-
a reference table is missing and the correct way would be to add the new table, put an attribute on that table and join to it
a list of ids is extracted from the database, and then used in a subsequent SQL statement (perhaps later or on another server or whatever). In this case, the answer is to never extract it from the database. Either store in a temporary table or just write one query.
I think there may be better ways to rework this code that just getting this SQL statement to work. If you provide more details you might get some ideas.

This is one of the rare cases where you need a hint, else Oracle will not use the index on column id. One of the advantages of this approach is that Oracle doesn't need to hard parse the query again and again. Using a temporary table is most of the times slower.

I wound up here looking for a solution as well.
Depending on the high-end number of items you need to query against, and assuming your items are unique, you could split your query into batches queries of 1000 items, and combine the results on your end instead (pseudocode here):
//remove dupes

This may be a good trade-off in the scenario where you don't typically have over 1000 items - as having over 1000 items would be your "high end" edge-case scenario. For example, in the event that you have 1500 items, two queries of (1000, 500) wouldn't be so bad. This also assumes that each query isn't particularly expensive in of its own right.
This wouldn't be appropriate if your typical number of expected items got to be much larger - say, in the 100000 range - requiring 100 queries. If so, then you should probably look more seriously into using the global temporary tables solution provided above as the most "correct" solution. Furthermore, if your items are not unique, you would need to resolve duplicate results in your batches as well.
Yes, very weird situation for oracle.
if you specify 2000 ids inside the IN clause, it will fail.
this fails:
select ...
where id in (1,2,....2000)
but if you simply put the 2000 ids in another table (temp table for example), it will works
below query:
select ...
where id in (select userId
from temptable_with_2000_ids )
what you can do, actually could split the records into a lot of 1000 records and execute them group by group.
Here is some Perl code that tries to work around the limit by creating an inline view and then selecting from it. The statement text is compressed by using rows of twelve items each instead of selecting each item from DUAL individually, then uncompressed by unioning together all columns. UNION or UNION ALL in decompression should make no difference here as it all goes inside an IN which will impose uniqueness before joining against it anyway, but in the compression, UNION ALL is used to prevent a lot of unnecessary comparing. As the data I'm filtering on are all whole numbers, quoting is not an issue.

Instead of using IN clause, can you try using JOIN with the other table, which is fetching the id. that way we don't need to worry about limit. just a thought from my side.
Instead of SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE ID IN (1,2,3,4,...,1000);
Use this :

*Note that you need to be sure the ID does not refer any other foreign IDS if this is a dependency. To ensure only existing ids are available then :
