I am working on making my first ever spring-boot/kotlin application. For the last 2 days I have been trying to fix this simple yet impossible problem. The apllication itself is made by following this guide https://www.baeldung.com/spring-boot-kotlin .
I have tried several things from other similar questions. Like delete .m2/repository folder and adjusting the pom file in several ways.
To clear things up the build works fine. When i run mvn install everything works fine. However if i try to run mvn spring-boot:run the app will build just fine, but will crash shortly after that.
Any help will be appreciated.

The error messages says:
...if you put a #ComponentScan in the default package by mistake
and from your code I cannot see that the Application is in any package.
So I am very certain that this is the root problem and will get fixed if you move the class into a real package.

My spring boot app works fine and correctly when I access it locally localhost:8080.
When I deploy it on Apache Tomcat/7.0.76 I get the following error:
FAIL - Application at context path /attributes could not be started
FAIL - Encountered exception org.apache.catalina.LifecycleException: Failed to start component [StandardEngine[Catalina].StandardHost[localhost].StandardContext[/attributes]]
I followed the instructions here and read many SO questions similar to mine but cannot find the solution.

I build the war using mvn clean install and rename the xxx-linkingservice-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.war to attributes.war and deploy it to Apache Tomcat/7.0.76. Tomcat installs it under /attributes but fails to start it.
Not sure if this is important but the java version on the machine where I build the .war is:
openjdk version "1.8.0_275"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 1.8.0_275-b01)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 25.275-b01, mixed mode)
while the tomcat runs using:
Java 1.8.0_302-b08 Red Hat, Inc.
Update:
I tried to create a new war with a "vanilla" spring boot application following this article and received the same error when starting the app on tomcat.

I followed #Joachim Rohde answer and added the servlet-api dependency to my pom.xml.
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>3.1.0</version>
</dependency>
From what I understand Tomcat 7 comes with tomcat-servlet-3.0-api.jar. The HttpSessionIdListener class come according to this documentation in version 3.1.
This is still not fixing my problem and I still get the following error:

The solution in my case was the spring-boot-starter-version in pom.xml. This one had to be 2.3.12.RELEASE (https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.boot/spring-boot-starter-parent).
I am trying to use Actuator. The problem is that when i use version 2 or above, server starts to fail. If i use version 1 less than 2 server starts properly but, i do not get end points like /actuator etc. Please help. Really stuck in it.

so your question was a bit messy until I haven't seen your reply on one of the comments under your question.
"yeah, but if i not mention the version application does not run. It's due to adding dependency of Actuator. If i mention version 1.x.x with actuator, application runs but don't get actuator end points."
So, the thing is that your pom.xml should look like this one
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<project xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

Notice that I haven't defined the versions "manually" because I let the parent starter pom do it correctly instead of me. :)
Another problem that I surmise that you have based on your reply ("not mention the version application does not run")
Sounds like you weren't able to get the dependency. I mean you haven't put the error message here for that case, but I assume that you should run
mvn -U clean package to re-download the dependencies and get the right ones.
If you use IDEA you should run a "reimport/refresh" on pom.xml. :)
I hope it helps!
update:
I noticed also that you include both micrometer-core and micrometer-registry.
Completely unnecessary!!
Please always look at the included dependencies graph.
You can easily do that with for example "Dependency Analyzer" plugin in IDEA.
It will help you to see the duplicated inclusions.
For example on this picture, you should see that micrometer-core dependency comes with the actuator and the micrometer-registry thus you shouldn't include it "manually". :)
I try deploy my spring boot web application to AWS Elastic Beanstalk. I saw full logs and there is stack trace like below, but when I run mvn clean package in Intellij idea terminal I get the same errors like below.
I was using 'mvn clean package -DskipTests' to now and command wasn't finish broke result. There was no errors in terminal, but when I use this command without -DskipTests stack trace error is like below:
Can you tell me why I get this error ? How resolve this problem ?
On The other band, what can cause this error with entitymanagerfactory ? I checked conflicts in pom.xml and There was conflicts between httpclient nad httpcore, I removed this dependencies but error still occur. Any idea?
I searched in other stackoverflow topics and I didn't find any solution. Nothing worked.
I know from other post in stackoverflow that test class don't want to compile. I don't know why.
Here is my pom.xml file:

UPDATE - RESOLVED
I was following with this AWS tutorial and everything works perfectly. I had to connect security groups RDS and Elastic Beanstalk.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/elasticbeanstalk/latest/dg/AWSHowTo.RDS.html
This error is related to your JPA means your database connection is creating some trouble. Please check the configuration for your DB mentioned in properties file and also, check your entities as well if anything is wrong with them.
Also, share application.properties file here as well for better understanding.
I have created a controller service to connect to a test db.
I have a custom processor that reads data from SQL Server, the mock tests, the build and the deployment to NiFi succeed. The processor runs into error, maybe the nar dependency scope is at fault or ... ?
I am unsure The pom for processor and the nar projects are as follows :

In the controller service, I do not see my custom processor in
'Referencing Components'(it says 'no referencing components')
Right now, I have hard-coded the 'Database Driver Location(s)' but in
production, I would like the controller to pick up that from the
classpath(somehow, is it possible?)
*****Edit-1*****
As suggested by Mahendra, I did the following :
Without any changes to the existing pom.xml files, added the dependency (sqljdbc4, 4.0) to both, the build and deployment succeeded but the jdbc driver error persisted
The 'Database Driver Location(s)' kept as 'file:///'. Same error
Added the sqljdbc4.jar in NiFi/lib and the driver error vanished(getting other errors but those will be taken in a different thread). Note that the controller service still doesn't show the processor as 'referenced component'.
The java version
java -version
java version "1.8.0_121"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_121-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.121-b13, mixed mode)
Isn't there a way to avoid adding the sqljdbc4.jar in lib, I mean third-party dependencies like fasterxml etc. are behaving properly, is this an issue with my configuration or some problem with the sql server maven repos. ?
#kaliyug,
EDIT 1:
1.if you declared DB class name is "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver".You should add below maven dependency in pom like below.,
<dependency>
<groupId>com.microsoft.sqlserver</groupId>
<artifactId>sqljdbc4</artifactId>
<version>4.2</version>
</dependency>
Or If you want's to use in production environment you can specify driver database location in controller service like below.
file:///C:\DBLocation\sqljdbc42.jar
3.Or you can just copy the "sqljdbc42.jar" directly into NiFi\Lib directory. After copied the jar,you should restart NiFi Services. At runtime ,SQL jar automatically Loaded when it search for DB ClassName in Nifi\Lib directory.
Please let me know if you have face any issues.
I am building a system using Spring Boot. I am using Spring Tools Suite as the IDE, and I can build and run the program as Spring Boot App using Spring Tool Suite without any problems. However, when I build via maven via command "mvn package", and run the generated jar file under target/my-app.jar, the embeded tomcat failed to start. The error is like below:
org.springframework.context.ApplicationContextException: Unable to start embedded container; nested exception is org.springframework.boot.context.embedded.EmbeddedServletContainerException: Unable to start embedded Tomcat

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
I have figured this out. My system is to interact with a third party enterprise system, and my system depends on some JAR files from third party system. So I have the "-Dloader.path" points to the directory of the third party JAR files. One of the JAR files, j2ee.jar, conflicts with tomcat. Tomcat will start if I remove j2ee.jar file from the "-Dloader.path".
Anyway, thank you again for all of your suggestions!
As Deinum suggested in the comments.
Your jar does not have the embedded tomcat dependency included in it, since you have provided the tomcat dependency scope as "runtime". Remove the scope declaration which should enable the "compile" scope by default. Your jar should then contain the dependencies required for starting the embedded tomcat container.
