My spring boot app works fine and correctly when I access it locally localhost:8080.
When I deploy it on Apache Tomcat/7.0.76 I get the following error:
FAIL - Application at context path /attributes could not be started
FAIL - Encountered exception org.apache.catalina.LifecycleException: Failed to start component [StandardEngine[Catalina].StandardHost[localhost].StandardContext[/attributes]]
I followed the instructions here and read many SO questions similar to mine but cannot find the solution.

I build the war using mvn clean install and rename the xxx-linkingservice-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.war to attributes.war and deploy it to Apache Tomcat/7.0.76. Tomcat installs it under /attributes but fails to start it.
Not sure if this is important but the java version on the machine where I build the .war is:
openjdk version "1.8.0_275"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 1.8.0_275-b01)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 25.275-b01, mixed mode)
while the tomcat runs using:
Java 1.8.0_302-b08 Red Hat, Inc.
Update:
I tried to create a new war with a "vanilla" spring boot application following this article and received the same error when starting the app on tomcat.

I followed #Joachim Rohde answer and added the servlet-api dependency to my pom.xml.
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>3.1.0</version>
</dependency>
From what I understand Tomcat 7 comes with tomcat-servlet-3.0-api.jar. The HttpSessionIdListener class come according to this documentation in version 3.1.
This is still not fixing my problem and I still get the following error:

The solution in my case was the spring-boot-starter-version in pom.xml. This one had to be 2.3.12.RELEASE (https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.springframework.boot/spring-boot-starter-parent).

so your question was a bit messy until I haven't seen your reply on one of the comments under your question.
"yeah, but if i not mention the version application does not run. It's due to adding dependency of Actuator. If i mention version 1.x.x with actuator, application runs but don't get actuator end points."

Notice that I haven't defined the versions "manually" because I let the parent starter pom do it correctly instead of me. :)
Another problem that I surmise that you have based on your reply ("not mention the version application does not run")
Sounds like you weren't able to get the dependency. I mean you haven't put the error message here for that case, but I assume that you should run
mvn -U clean package to re-download the dependencies and get the right ones.
If you use IDEA you should run a "reimport/refresh" on pom.xml. :)
I hope it helps!
update:
I noticed also that you include both micrometer-core and micrometer-registry.
Completely unnecessary!!
Please always look at the included dependencies graph.
You can easily do that with for example "Dependency Analyzer" plugin in IDEA.
It will help you to see the duplicated inclusions.
For example on this picture, you should see that micrometer-core dependency comes with the actuator and the micrometer-registry thus you shouldn't include it "manually". :)
All,
I built a sample app using spring-boot, maven and it worked fine in my IDE using mvn spring-boot:run. But, when I attempt to deploy the app as a WAR(mvn clean install) in Tomcat 7 I get the following error. Please help me find the reason for the issue.

<exclusion>
<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-tomcat</artifactId>
</exclusion>
</exclusions>
</dependency>
And try again.
This makes sure that you're excluding the embedded Tomcat from the dependency tree in your project.
UPDATE
Add the Servet API as provided to your classpath.
The error in the coments happens because the tomcat (which has the servlet API implementation and specification as transitive dependency) has been removed, so there's no Servlet API available on your classpath
Add the 3.0.1 Servlet API specification as you're using Tomcat 7
<dependency>
<groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
<artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
<version>3.0.1</version>
<scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>
You cannot run a Spring Boot 2.x application on Tomcat 7. Due to the simple fact that Spring Boot 2.x depends on Spring Framework 5.x which has a minimal Servlet API requirement for version 3.1 (see the Whats New In Spring 5).
You need at least Tomact 8.5 to run it (8.0 in theory but that has been superseded by 8.5).
To fix use Tomcat 8.5 or downgrade to the Spring Boot 1.5 line.

The application work fine with this configuration in local (embedded tomcat) the service was registred but when i deploy it they crash and with without the Consul it work fine even in the server.
Other informations :
- Tomcat : 8.5.6
- Spring : 2.1.1.RELEASE
This error can occur when your jar file is corrupted, make sure you jars are not corrupted.
Also try to clean your project/tomcat directory.
Check this out maybe it will point you in the right direction:
java.util.zip.ZipException
I'm trying to create a Docker image from my Jersey web application running on a Tomcat server. I'm developing on a Windows 7 machine.
I have deployed the web application on a local Tomcat 8.0.14 application server on my development machine and everything works as expected.
To create the Docker image I put the following Dockerfile. in the same directory as the my-web-app.war file.
FROM tomcat:8.0-jre8
ADD /my-web-app.war /usr/local/tomcat/webapps/
CMD ["catalina.sh", "run"]
After that I'm creating the image with the following command:
docker build -t my-web-app .
This is done sucessfully and the images shows up with the docker images -a command.
After that I start the image through this:
winpty docker run --rm -it -p 8080:8080 my-web-app
The command prompt show that the server is successfully started and when I tried to access the web application this also works:
http://192.168.99.100:8080/my-web-app
shows the appropriate HTML welcome page.
The issue arises when I try to access any of the actual Jersey RESTful web services. Any time I try to access something different than an HTML page I get the following error message:

I assume there might be something wrong with the creation of the WAR file but if so how can the application be successfully deployed on my local Tomcat server.
If this is of any interest here is the pom.xml file I used to build the WAR:

Does anyone know what the issue here is?
Any help is appreciated.
Greetings
Here is an indepth overview and a solution to all who encounter NoSuchMethodError especially in jersey context.
The problem is
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.ws.rs.core.Application.getProperties()Ljava/util/Map;
In Java NoSuchMethodError is thrown when the JVM cant find the method specified in the specified class.
From https://docs.oracle.com/javase/9/docs/api/java/lang/NoSuchMethodError.html
Thrown if an application tries to call a specified method of a class (either static or instance), and that class no longer has a definition of that method.
In your case JVM is complaining that javax.ws.rs.core.Application doesnot have getProperties() method.
Jesey 2.x uses JEE 7. In JEE 7 version of javax.ws.rs.core.Application has
getClasses()
getSingeltons()
getProperties()
methods defined. https://docs.oracle.com/javaee/7/api/javax/ws/rs/core/Application.html
Jesey 1.x uses JEE 6. In JEE 6 version of javax.ws.rs.core.Application only has
getClasses()
getclass()
But getProperties() is not defined. https://jersey.github.io/apidocs/1.19.1/jersey/javax/ws/rs/core/Application.html
Solution
You have jersey 2.x and 1.x versions defined in your pom.xml. Therefore there are both JEE6 and 7 versions of javax.ws.rs.core.Application in your classpath and classloader loads JEE 6 version of appliction class which doesnot have getProperties() defined but yor application wants to execute getProperties() anyway. Hence the error.
Remove all jersey 1.x versions from your pom.xml and stick to jersey 2.x version. The classloader will take care of the rest.
I have created a controller service to connect to a test db.
I have a custom processor that reads data from SQL Server, the mock tests, the build and the deployment to NiFi succeed. The processor runs into error, maybe the nar dependency scope is at fault or ... ?

In the controller service, I do not see my custom processor in
'Referencing Components'(it says 'no referencing components')
Right now, I have hard-coded the 'Database Driver Location(s)' but in
production, I would like the controller to pick up that from the
classpath(somehow, is it possible?)
*****Edit-1*****
As suggested by Mahendra, I did the following :
Without any changes to the existing pom.xml files, added the dependency (sqljdbc4, 4.0) to both, the build and deployment succeeded but the jdbc driver error persisted
The 'Database Driver Location(s)' kept as 'file:///'. Same error
Added the sqljdbc4.jar in NiFi/lib and the driver error vanished(getting other errors but those will be taken in a different thread). Note that the controller service still doesn't show the processor as 'referenced component'.
The java version
java -version
java version "1.8.0_121"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_121-b13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.121-b13, mixed mode)
Isn't there a way to avoid adding the sqljdbc4.jar in lib, I mean third-party dependencies like fasterxml etc. are behaving properly, is this an issue with my configuration or some problem with the sql server maven repos. ?
#kaliyug,
EDIT 1:
1.if you declared DB class name is "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver".You should add below maven dependency in pom like below.,
<dependency>
<groupId>com.microsoft.sqlserver</groupId>
<artifactId>sqljdbc4</artifactId>
<version>4.2</version>
</dependency>
Or If you want's to use in production environment you can specify driver database location in controller service like below.
file:///C:\DBLocation\sqljdbc42.jar
3.Or you can just copy the "sqljdbc42.jar" directly into NiFi\Lib directory.After copied the jar,you should restart NiFi Services.At runtime ,SQL jar automatically Loaded when it search for DB ClassName in Nifi\Lib directory.
Please let me know if you have face any issues.
