Using Laravel I am some data that follow the same model. I would like to duplicate.
I tryed this code :
public function duplicate($id)
{
$vpn = Vpns::findOrFail($id);
$newVPN = $vpn->replicate();
$newVPN->save();
return redirect()->route('home');
}
Problem is just date some datas are duplicate but not 100%. I have a new entry but 80% of data of precedent model are duplicated.
Example : text data are duplicated but not checkbox values or something like that.
DO you have some ideas ?
Thanks
Please Try This
public function duplicate($id)
{
$vpn = Vpns::find($id);
$newVPN = $vpn->replicate();
$newVPN->save();
return redirect()->route('home');
}

ive implemented nested comments in laravel with parent_id and there's another table votes where related data's are stored.
I've hasMany relation defined in comments model. Now when i delete a comment, it should delete all its replies and votes as well.
To delete votes i used
$review->votes()->delete();
which works perfectly. but i'm stuck with deleting votes for nested replies.
If i use foreach loop how to loop inside all levels which is dynamic.
public function deletereview($id=null){
$review = Review::find($id);
foreach($review->replies as $reply){
$reply->votes()->delete();
//how to do this for all levels?
$reply = $reply->votes(); // this doesn't work
}
return back();
}
Kindly advise on the proper way of doing it.
Note : i've read through the cascade options from migrations but that doesn't explain anything for nested comments(reply of replies and its related data's).
Thanks

// Review Model
public function deleteRelatedData() {
// Delete all votes of this review
$this->votes()->delete();
// Calling the same method to all of the child of this review
$this->replies->each->deleteRelatedData();
}
// Controller
public function deletereview($id=null){
$review = Review::find($id);
$review->deleteRelatedData();
return back();
}
I would recommend use observer for this.
https://laravel.com/docs/5.8/eloquent#observers
public function deleted(Review $review)
{
foreach($review->replies as $reply){
$votes = $reply->votes;
Votes::destroy($votes)
}
Destroy method allow you to delete multiple models.
For any next level you have to use another foreach loop in this case.
$reply = $reply->votes(); doesn't work since you should use
$votes = $reply->votes;
//or
$votes = $reply->votes()->get();
I have a many to many relationship between users and achievements. Table layout is similar to this.
users
-id
-first_name
-last_name
-email
acheivements
-id
-type-name
-description
achievement_user
-id
-acievement_id
-user_id
-is_complete (boolean)
-percentage_complete (integer)
-completed_at
I can get the bulk of the stuff I want such as all achievements with type = badge for a user that are in the pivot table. I can also get a list of all the achievements that have type = badge. Where I am stuck is trying to get all achievements with type = badge along with is_complete, percentage_complete, completed_at for that given user. So if there are 8 total badges and they have started 3 of them I would want to return 8 records where 3 of them would have the information from the pivot table. I know I could grab all badges and loop through them to add on additional information but I know there is a eloquent way that would be easier.
Thank for any help.
This is in response to you recent comment.
To achieve what you want, I have introduced a new method on the User model called achievementsblock, which uses php array_map method.
I have not tested the code, but you should get the idea.
//in User model
public function achievements()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('App\Achievements')->withPivot('is_complete', 'percentage_complete', 'completed_at');
}
//in User model
public function achievementsblock()
{
$all_achievements = Achievement::all();
return array_map(function($temp_achievement){
$achievement_ids = $this->achievements()->pluck('id');
$new_temp = new \stdClass();
$new_temp->type_name = $temp_achievement->type_name;
$new_temp->description = $temp_achievement->description;
if(in_array($temp_achievement->id, $achievement_ids)){
$user_achievement = $this->achievements()->where("achievements.id","=",$temp_achievement->id)->first();
$new_temp->is_complete = $user_achievement->is_complete;
$new_temp->percentage_complete = $user_achievement->percentage_complete;
$new_temp->completed_at = $user_achievement->completed_at;
}
else {
$new_temp->is_complete = 0;
$new_temp->percentage_complete = 0;
$new_temp->completed_at = null;
}
return $new_temp;
}, $all_achievements);
}
In your controllers, you can get the achievementsblock for a user as follows:
$user_achievement_blocks = User::first()->achievementsblock();
On your belongsToMany relationship, use the withPivot function as follows:
//in User model
public function acheivements()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('App\Acheivement')->withPivot('is_complete', 'percentage_complete', 'completed_at');
}
//in Acheivement model
public function users()
{
return $this->belongsToMany('App\User')->withPivot('is_complete', 'percentage_complete', 'completed_at');
}
You need to learn about whereHas method which lets you query on relationship while getting results
In User model
// create achievements relationship
public function achievements()
{
return $this->belongsToMany(Achievement::class)
->withPivot('is_complete', 'percentage_complete', 'completed_at');
}
//then query it like shown below.
$achievements= $user->achievements;

Im trying to use a laravel accessor to modify the content of a column when retrieving it. Im doing it like this:
On my model:
public function getMyColumnAttribute($value)
{
//Modify the content
return $value.'tttt';
}
On my controller:
public function test()
{
return MyModel::select('my_column')->find(1);
}
This works perfectly when the column in my DB is named 'my_column', but my entire database use camel case, so the actual name of the column is myColumn and the accessor just dont work in that case, I mean, it does return the value of my column, but without the modification I did in the accessor. I think it must be a way to it but I cant find how.
Thanks for the help
EDIT
I just realized that while this doesnt work: (myColumn is of type time on a MySql DB)
public function test()
{
return MyColumn::select('myColumn')->find(1);
//returns {"myColumn":"08:00:00"}
}
This acctually do what I expect
public function test()
{
$result = MyColumn::select('myColumn')->find(1);
return $result->myColumn;
// returns 08:00:00tttt
}
accessor doesnt modify the column raw data, it is used on create a new Attribute
use Mutator, save the modifyed raw data to db
use Accessor, get the raw data and modify it and assign to a new attribute
in your case
public function getMyColumnAttribute()
{
//Modify the content
return $this->attributes['type_column_name_here'] . 'tttt';
}
public function test()
{
// myColumn = the column name
$result = MyColumn::select('myColumn')->find(1);
// this is return the column value 08:00:00
return $result->myColumn;
// this will return accessor value 08:00:00tttt
return $result->my_column;
}
getMyColumnAttribute will convert to my_column
I'm not sure this is a real relation. I will try to explain the best way I can.
So first of all, I have three models :
Appartement,
AppartementPrice
The AppartementPrice depends on :
- appartement_id
I would like the AppartementPrice to be retrieve like that :
If there is a specific price for the appartement, then retrieve it, If not retrieve the price for all appartement which is stored in the database with an appartement_id = 0.
So basically what I would like is to do something like that :
public function price()
{
if(isset($this->hasOne('AppartementPrice')->price) // Check that relation exists
return $this->hasOne('AppartementPrice');
else
return $this->hasOne('AppartementPrice')->where('appartement_id', '0');
}
But this is not working.
It does not retrive me the default price.
I guess anyway this is not a best practice ?
I first tried to get the informations like that :
//Check if appartment has a specific price or retrieve default
if($priceAppartement = AppartementPrice::getPriceByCompanyAppartement($this->id))
return $priceAppartement;
else
return AppartementPrice::getDefaultPrice();
But I had this error :
Relationship method must return an object of type Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Relations\Relation
when doing :
echo $app->price->price;
How can I check that a relation exists ? And is there a way to do as I describe ?
Thank you
You can't replace relation like this, as what you intend is not logical - you want to retrieve relation that doesn't exist.
Instead you can do this:
public function getPriceAttribute()
{
return ($this->priceRelation) ?: $this->priceDefault();
}
public function priceDefault()
{
// edit: let's cache this one so you don't call the query everytime
// you want the price
return AppartmentPrice::remember(5)->find(0);
}
public function priceRelation()
{
return $this->hasOne('AppartementPrice');
}
Then you achieve what you wanted:
$app->price; // returns AppartmentPrice object related or default one
HOWEVER mind that you won't be able to work on the relation like normally:
$price = new AppartmentPrice([...]);
$app->price()->save($price); // will not work, instead use:
$app->priceRelation()->save($price);
First of all something really important in Laravel 4.
When you do not use parentheses when querying relationship it means you want to retreive a Collention of your Model.
You have to use parentheses if you want to continue your query.
Ex:
// for getting prices collection (if not hasOne). (look like AppartementPrice)
$appartment->price;
// for getting the query which will ask the DB to get all
//price attached to this appartment, and then you can continue querying
$priceQuery = $appartment->price();
// Or you can chain your query
$appartment->price()->where('price', '>', 0)->get() // or first() or count();
Secondly, your question.
//Appartement Model
// This function is needed to keep querying the DB
public function price()
{
return $this->hasOne('AppartementPrice')
}
// This one is for getting the appartment price, like you want to
public function getAppartmentPrice()
{
$price_object = $this->price;
if (!$price_object) // Appartment does not have any price {
return AppartementPrice->where('appartement_id', '=', 0)->get();
}
return $price_object;
}
I'm having trouble with eager loading in laravel
I have these models:
class Page extends Eloquent {
public function translations() {
return $this->has_many('Pagestl', 'page_id');
}
}
and
class Pagestl extends Eloquent {
public static $table = 'pages_tl';
public function page() {
return $this->belongs_to('Page', 'id');
}
}
I want a specific page with its translation data of a specific language.
I retrieve the data like this:
$page_data = Page::with(array('translations' => function($query) {
$query->where('lang_id', '=', 'nl')->first();
}))->find($id);
De result is ok-ish. I get all the page data and the translation of 1 language, dutch (nl). But in order to get a field from the language data I have to this:
$page_data->translations[0]->attributes['content_or_whatever'];
..which i find ugly. I feel i should only have to do something like:
$page_data->translations->content;
..but that gives me an error (Trying to get property of non-object).
Am I missing something or is this just the way it is?
I don't find it necessary to do eager-loading here.
Both ways of doing it will result in 2 queries: select the Page with the given id and then find its first translation.
So, I would do:
$page = Page::find($id);
and then
$page_data = Pagestl::where_page_id_and_lang_id($page->id, 'nl')->first();
Then, assuming the content field exists in pages_tl table, we'll get it by doing:
echo $page_data->content;
Finally, your code looks alright; you don't have to have the second parameter when defining the relationships unless they are different from what Laravel expects.
I'll let you find where the problem is with your code (I couldn't figure out from the information given - could be something to do with strings.php)
