How can i use testcontainer in mac os with out Docker Desktop? - spring

Today, i heard new that the docker desktop will be not free. so, our team has conclusion to delete docker desktop and use minikube.
then, we can use docker cli, but,, when we use testContainer in java project(We use intellij) the testContainer not work because of docker. how can we solve this problem?

We looked at various ways to run Testcontainers based tests in Windows and Macos: https://www.atomicjar.com/2021/10/docker-on-windows-and-macos/
This experiment was done based on the testcontainers-java test suite itself, so it covers all the features of the library well. For example, Minikube exposes Docker and showed reasonable results. One thing to note is how you can expose your filesystem to the containers which requires mounting them first into the minikube.
So I'd recommend using copyTo/FromContainer methods instead of mounting things.
To configure minikube to be used from Testcontainers use the testcontainers.properties file, like (example from the article linked above):

$ echo "docker.cert.path=$DOCKER_CERT_PATH" >> ~/.testcontainers.properties

Alternatively you can use Rancher Desktop which exposes Docker, or remote Docker environments, for example Testcontainers Cloud. In case of Testcontainers cloud your tests run locally, but the containers in the cloud, so there's no issues with architecture or OS incompatibilities.

Challenge upgrading Spring boot to version 2.7.5 with 7.17 client and Elasticsearch 7.10.2

I upgraded my Spring boot version to 2.7.5 and spring-boot-starter-data-elasticsearch client to 7.17. I have Amazon Elasticsearch Service version 7.10.2 running and at the moment I can not upgrade the Elasticsearch because of various reasons.

The error you see comes from a change that Elasticsearch did after the 7.10 version: The Elasticsearch client checks the version of the Elasticsearch cluster it connects to and refuses the connection if this is not an Elasticsearch product in the correct version. This is nothing that Spring Data Elasticsearch was able to influence.
Spring Boot 2.7.5 (and Spring Data Elasticsearch 4.4) are built against Elasticsearch client libraries in version 7.17.
It should be possible to fix the version of the Elasticsearch client library to 7.10, but this will almost certainly cause errors because the API change between that versions, classes were moved to different packages for example.
Spring Data Elasticsearch 4.1.x used Elasticsearch 7.9.3, 4.2 already was on 7.12. Fixing Spring Data Elasticsearch to 4.1 might work, no guarantees. 4.1.x has reached EOL in November 2021.

Missing the required parameter 'namespace' when calling listNamespacedConfigMap(Async) in Spring Boot Cloud Kubernetes local tests

I am getting this exception looged for every one of my Junit 5 Tests in a Spring Boot 2.5 project using org.springframework.cloud:spring-cloud-starter-kubernetes-client-config. I use local yaml property files for tests, not Kubernetes anywhere.
I wonder if it is just because I run the tests locally (not in Kubernetes) or if is a real problema that will arise when I deploy in Kubernetes (and try to read the configuration from Kubernetes ConfigMaps)

Although everything works perfectly fine when I don't run it inside docker but on my local.
You probably didn't add your user to the docker group, try:
sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
Log out, log in again. Check the user has the appropriate groups and launch your app again.
I just ran into the exact same problem.
Restart your computer, make sure that docker had finished starting up, rerun the test.
If you want to check that docker is properly running you can try starting up a postgres db in docker with:
docker run --name postgres-db -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=docker -p 5432:5432 -d postgres

From what I can debug the DefaultPlexusContainer is searching for the correct GAV, but I cannot find that it actually loaded the project-to-test pom.
Using the rule based version also fails, first because the Rule.getTestFile method does not exist. But replacing that with normal file access, it does load the project-to-test pom, it also derives the GAV for the plugin from the project's pom, so far so good. But then calling the lookup method ends up and fails in the same DefaultPlexusContainer.locate method as the previous test approach.

Maybe it has to do with that I use Java 11? I cannot find a clear statement what is the maximum Java version to use for plugins.
The plugin works fine BTW. Not being able to unit test it, does not mean it cannot be used.

Unable to restart Spring Batch Job which was killed through OS

I am testing a Spring Batch restart functionality, in which I am expecting a job that was manually killed in-between the execution to restart when JOB_EXECUTION_ID is provided.
I updated the BATCH_JOB_EXECUTION and BATCH_STEP_EXECUTION tables to have the STATUS and EXIT CODE as 'FAILED'. But when I tried to restart the Job by providing the EXECUTION_ID, I am getting an exception as below -

Can someone kindly suggest what mistake I am doing here?
You need to also update END_TIME to a non null value in both BATCH_JOB_EXECUTION and BATCH_STEP_EXECUTION for the failed job/step
executions.
