w/o success
I read that file /etc/postinstall/0p_update-info-dir.dash
it hangs when running md5sum: ls -n /usr/share/info/*info* | md5sum >/usr/share/info/.stamp.tmp
because neither the file .stamp.tmp nor .stamp.tmp are being created
at the log here there is this:

it happens on windowsxp and windows 7
I tried a huge lot of tips and tricks from removing log files to deleting the whole install path to start again but it did not help
If you are being able to install cygwin on 2022, tell me how you did it?
PS.: that warning comes from bin/cygwin1.dll

I have downloaded and installed a Windows native compiled OpenFOAM from here. But when I try to run any of the OF commands (e.g., blockMesh, foamDictionary, ...) in the MSYS2 terminal I get the message:
path/to/folder/v2106/msys64/home/ofuser/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-v2106/platforms/win64MingwDPInt32Opt/bin/blockMesh.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-6.dll: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
and in the cmd terminal, I get the error message:
System Error The code execution cannot proceed because msmpi.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
From here, I see that I might have to reinstall OpenFOAM in admin mode, which I don't have on this work machine. so I tried installing MSMPI using pacman -S msmpi as I used to do here. But I get the error message:
error: target not found: msmpi
My goal is to install and use the OpenFOAM software, doesn't matter which release, on this Windows machine without admin privileges. I would appreciate it if you could help me know how can I fix the above problems, or find another way around.
P.S.1. Searching the installation directory, I see that the libstdc++-6.dll file is in the path\to\folder\v2106\msys64\home\ofuser\OpenFOAM\OpenFOAM-v2106\platforms\win64MingwDPInt32Opt\bin. So I wonder I get the first error message. Maybe OF is not compiled properly against the library? Should I try removing the path\to\folder\v2106\msys64\usr\lib\gcc\x86_64-pc-msys\7.4.0\libstdc++.dll.a as suggested here?
P.S.2. I had written this post ages ago about different ways to install OpenFOAM on Windows. Sadly it is still a big effort to get it up and running.

With OpenFOAM-v2112 it is now possible to install without windows admin permissions.
The original problem will still be evident with older OpenFOAM versions since they relied on installing msmpi separately.
Total newbie here and have no idea on what I'm doing.
I have installed ubuntu on windows can open bash from windows now.
I have also downloaded burrow-wheeler aligner from the Sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/bio-bwa/files/
From there I tried extracting the bz2 file. And I added the extracted folder into PATH
but when I type in bwa on bash, it says bwa: command not found
I'm a total beginner and want to get started with bioinformatics. I performed the aforementioned steps because that's how I setup conda to work on windows cmd.
What am I doing wrong?
In the subsystem, almost everything remains the same in your scenario just as an Ubuntu system, then you just follow the Readme file of this repository: lh3/bwa. Since the repo in Sourceforge seems to have been archived for a long time, you'd better use the newer alternative on Github.
first question ever on here, so bear with me :) I've been on the web for the past 3 days trying to find a way to get the following result on my windows machine.

I've found a lot of stuff for macOS and unix, but only bits and pieces for Windows. I'm running xampp, and ultimately I'm trying to get it to send http/2 requests through cURL/PHP. What I've gathered so far is that I need cURL to be compiled with some libraries, like openssl (at least 1.0.2), libcurl with http/2 enabled, and nghttp2. I feel like I'm very close but I'm just missing some steps.
What I've done so far:
installed things like mingw32, cmake, and Build Tools for Visual Studio 2017
downloaded nghttp2-1.27.0, and used 'cmake' and 'cmake --build' to get the 5 files: nghttp2.dll, .exp, .lik, .lib, and .pdb
downloaded curl-7.56.1.tar.gz (the very first one on https://curl.haxx.se/download.html)
downloaded libssh2-1.8.0
downloaded openssl-1.0.2l
downloaded zlib-1.2.11
followed instructions for Mingw32 on https://curl.haxx.se/docs/install.html (but it keeps giving me the error 'cannot find openSSL package')
I read somewhere that I need to compile cURL with the '--with-nghttp2 --prefix-[LOCATION OF NGHTTP2 FOLDER HERE]' flag, so I tried something that I thought would work, but I don't think it did: 'cmake --with-nghttp2 --prefix-[LOCATION OF NGHTTP2 FOLDER HERE] . ', then 'cmake install . ' and it looked like it did something, but the cURL.exe that was built inside curl-7.56.1/src/ did not have anything else but libcurl.
Any suggestions or pointers will be greatly appreciated! Thank you guys :)
Ok, I was finally able to build Curl on Windows with http/2 support.
This is what worked for me, step by step:
Downloaded "Build Tools for Visual Studio 2017" to be able to build from the command line (provides nmake and required Windows SDK libraries and header filtes)
downloaded the latest version of curl, like stated above (curl-7.56.1.tar.gz, aka for me the very first one on https://curl.haxx.se/download.html)
extracted it inside c:/curl, so I ended up with c:/curl/curl-7.56.1
read instructions BUILD.WINDOWS.txt inside c:/curl/curl-7.56.1/winbuild and proceeded to http://windows.php.net/downloads/php-sdk/deps/ to download the 4 libraries that I needed. I just grabbed the VC15/x86 versions.
created a new folder named "deps" inside c:/curl/curl-7.56.1
created the following 3 folders inside c:/curl/curl-7.56.1/deps: bin, lib, and include
extracted each library I just downloaded in the corresponding 3 folders
opened Developer Command Prompt for VS 2017
cd c:/curl/curl-7.56.1/winbuild
nmake -f Makefile.vc mode=dll WITH_DEVEL=c:/curl/curl-7.56.1/deps WITH_SSL=dll WITH_NGHTTP2=dll WITH_ZLIB=static WITH_SSH2=dll
this builds a CURL executable inside one of the subfolders in c:\curl\curl-7.56.1\builds
when I first tried running CURL, it showed an error saying missing libssl-1_1.dll and libcrypto-1_1.dll, so I had to copy them from c:\curl\curl-7.56.1\deps\bin to the same directory where the newly built curl.exe is
Note: since zlib didn't come with a bin folder containing any .dll's, I understand why I had to mark zlib as static with the WITH_ZLIB=static flag. What I don't get is why I had to manually move the openssl .dll's in the new directory. Any thoughts?
PS: thank you Daniel for pointing me in the right direction. I didn't even notice the /winbuild directory.
PPS: As you can probably tell, I had no idea what I've been doing 90% of the time. Probably why it took me 5 days to figure it out ;)
I need to access some source code stored on SourceForge using CVS.
I used (many computers ago) to use WinCVS, so I downloaded it from SourceForge and installed it on this machine, which runs Windows XP 64-bit (latest SP).
However, during the second part of the install, when it tries to install CVSNT, the install asks all the usual questions, and hangs during the actual install.
I have traced the install using ProcMon, and the installer starts up, creates a temporary file in my temp directory (which is on drive E:), and then executes it.
I can't see any particular reason why the install hangs - there is no obvious loop. Both the original installer, and the temporary file create 2 threads, and one thread exits. So I guess the other thread is waiting for something which never happens.
Any idea how to proceed from here?
The issue is that the installer doesn't like the default installation path of c:\Program files (x86)\cvsnt — if you use c:\cvsnt the installer will proceed.
Update: this appears correct. If you still would like it in the default location under C:\Program Files (x86)..., use the 8.3 name (you can find it with dir /x), usually C:\PROGRA~2. As you can see in the screenshot, the last step appears correctly now. With a path with a space in it, it would hang forever.
Second part of wincvs --> cvsnt.exe get hangs with windows 7 due to incompatible, So you may try tortoiseCVS. It has the portable version and also working fine
SOLUTION FOR Windows 8 64-bit:
On Windows 8 64-bit I was unable to install CVSNT (even to c:\cvsnt), but I solved the problem by simple copy the whole CVTNT directory from my old pc.
I copied to C:\Program Files (x86)\cvsnt (exact location where wincvs expected to find cvsnt).
We had a similar problem on a machine at work (the difference being it was Windows 7 64-bit in our case). Even though the user had admin privileges, we were only able to resolve the issue by logging on directly as the admin before installing cvsnt.
Do not install the version of CVSNT that comes with WinCVS. It's an old, outdated, buggy version. Install a later release (at least 2.5.0.4).
this is probably something really stupid but I can't work it out.
I upgraded my version of cucumber to v 0.10.0 and now the test's (running on Win 7) are not showing coloured output with the "pretty" formatter.
When tests are run it prints this error: *** WARNING: You must use ANSICON 1.31 or higher (http://adoxa.110mb.com/ansicon) to get coloured output on Windows
I have been to http://adoxa.110mb.com/ansicon but it's not obvious to me how I should be upgrading it. Anyone know how to upgrade my version of anscion?
One of the dev's at my work figured it out.
You need to
Download Ansicon from https://github.com/adoxa/ansicon/downloads and unzip it into a directory
with no spaces
Open a command prompt and cd to the folder where you unzipped it
Now, cd into either x86 or x64 (depending on your machine’s processor) and install it globally on
your machine (For example, D:\Cucumber\ansi160\x64)
Type ansicon.exe –i OR ansicon -i and press Enter
Any program that prints ANSI colors will now display properly on your machine.
Update as of today, http://adoxa.110mb.com/ansicon is no longer accessible.
Files have been uploaded to https://github.com/adoxa/ansicon/downloads.
I tried downloading from adoxa.3eeweb.com, but Chrome warned me that the file was "not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous."
So I opted with the file from github.
Besides that, I just followed the steps mentioned above and my output is now coloured.
