Seeking which SMS to use for dating site - sms

Seeking which companies anyone may have used to use for the verification and messaging within a dating site.
I know of Twilio - do you know of other options like this company?
How this works is to send a verification when someone starts the sign-up process. It sends a code for them to verify.
Also - I believe this is how the chat part works.
Any idea what Hinge, tinder, or eharmony use?
Thanks!

Instagram user's contact e-mail?

Ruby on rails dev here.
This question has been asked before. Here, here and here.
The problem is that they did not make the right question or the solution given was somewhat shallow.
I ´ll be as specific as I can.
The Goal
I want get the user´s contact e-mail and not the account e-mail. Two different things. :)
Some users leave their email on the contact button. It´s public.
My goal is to make a software that can extract e-mails, but for now, only extracting one e-mail from one single account will be more than enough to have my MVP going.
here is an example below on how instagram let users share their e-mail.
The Problem
It only shows in app :( If it were to be shown on the browser as well, it would be a walk in the park. The contact button that has the e-mail and phone number does not show in the browser.
**The Good Part*
There is some solutions to it.
This guy has a figured it out using the API, but I don´t quite understand how he did it. The downside is that all solution wants to sell you a product.
The focus of this company lies on extracting instagram e-mails and it seems legit.
Last but not least, this dude is using appium to extract those juicy e-mails. The third won´t really work for me because it seems too messy. Having to use a android emulator will be my last resort.
Thanks for helping and happy new year.
Set up mitmproxy on your machine.
Set up the certificates on your phone and use your machine as the gateway.
Analyze the traffic.
Reverse engineer the API (to log in and get info about user profiles) and then use it in your Ruby/Python/whatever code.

SMS service for two-factor authentication in Rails

I have already implemented two-factor authentication using the tinfoil gem in Rails. It's using Google Authenticator to display the verification code to the user.
I would also like to implement sending the verification code to the user via SMS. I am wondering what is the best solution for this?
I have also searched around and found free SMS services for Rails like SMS FU and SMS-easy, but it seems like the gems are not active and they don't support a lot of the UK carriers.
So, should I resort to paid service like twilio?
Twilio developer evangelist here.
For something important like two factor authentication, where you need the messages to arrive or your user cannot log in, then I highly recommend a paid service.
StackOverflow is not exactly the right site to be asking for opinions on this sort of thing, it is more for code issues that can be solved. However, if you are interested in using Twilio for this and you find yourself with any questions about the service, you can contact me directly at philnash#twilio.com.

How to detect Ghostery?

I want to start out by saying we aren't trying to deceive anyone. A lot of these types of questions are met with responses like "Why don't you just be honest with your users? Why do you need to do this?"
We use LiveChat on our site, and we've been getting a lot of feedback from users who use AdBlock and Ghostery that our chat isn't working. We want to simply add a Google Analytics event that logs
If livechat didn't initiate and
if the user is using an ad blocker.
This way we have some stats as to what percent of our users are affected.
We already have it set up to read AdBlock and AdBlock Plus, and it is working well, but we can't seem to find a way to detect Ghostery as well. Has anyone had success with this?

How do you create an sms survey application?

I am a newbie sms application developer. I am looking for pointer on how i could develop an interactive survey based sms application. I want to push questions having check boxes, input boxes, radio buttons etc and receive the inputs back at the server.
Any pointers on how this can be achieved and what app services/technologies can be used for achieving the same would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
SMS protocol does not support any kind of interactive elements.
You probably want to push in a SMS message containing a link to a mobile site hosting the survey and the interaction happens in the mobile web browser.
Alternatively you can only send 140 character free form questions. However if you send in several questions the users won't answer as typing in many SMS messages is cumbersome.
So your idea of doing it purely on SMS is not feasible. Just create a mobile web site using some CMS with good mobile support and form creation wizards.

Disclaimer: I am one of authors
I've been using www.txtlocal.co.uk for quite a while and i'm very satisfied being able to send sms texts through their api. This is commercial service but really worth it's price.
You can use it with all languanges including PHP, ASP, C#.NET, VB.NET, VBA, JAVA, Bulk XML and others.
Simply have a look at code examples: http://www.txtlocal.co.uk/developers/code/
Moreover you can build your own software to process text responses from your clients and even buy your own telephone number.

Can I Send a Text Message from My Computer to a Cell Phone?

Is it possible to send a text message from a computer to a cell phone? I'd like to be able to do this with Ruby, not quite sure what it entails. After seeing GrandCentral and Google Voice, it seems like it's not that bad.
Is it possible? How do I get started!
Yes, it's fairly trivial.
Depends on whether you want to pay or not; some providers offer email addresses for each number that is with them, otherwise you can get an account with an SMS gateway (find one in your country, or try clickatell) and then just buy credits. They'll have various interfaces: Email, HTTP, more.
check smsroaming.com it provide services to send sms from website and also have desktop application for it. including iphone, blackberry and facebook application for it.
i hope they will help you to manage sms.
regards
Azy
