I use https://autorefresh.io/expressions/ chrome extension for page refreshing. The next level for me is checking if a specific page part contains the predefined text. This extension supports XPath.
I was trying to use //*[contains(text(),"Brak towaru")]. It worked until I put this cell "address" instead of *.
/html/body[#class='b--desktop breakpoint-xl']/div[#class='body-inner']/
section[#class='pt-2']/div[#id='main']/div[#class='shop']/
div[#class='row mt-4 justify-content-center'][1]/div[#class='col-4 col-md-2 pt-3 text-center']
I was trying to insert this "address" in many ways... No success.
Any hints?

Instead of using contains(text()) try using contains(.,). This will check for text content in the element itself and in it's child nodes.
So, instead of
//*[contains(text(),"Brak towaru")]
Try using
//*[contains(.,"Brak towaru")]
And in case this is a div element use
//div[contains(.,"Brak towaru")]
Thank you very much. Works :)
//*[#id="main"]/div/div[3]/div[3][contains(.,"Brak towaru")]

I feel really stupid: I just read this question How to get html elements with multiple css classes and the answer was very clear and straightforward but when I try to apply it on this HTML
<div class="header group">
I am completely unable to make it work.
Here are some of the variations I have tried
//*[contains (#class, ’header’) and contains (#class, ‘group’)]
//div[contains (#class, ’header’) and contains (#class, ‘group’)]
//div[contains (#class, ’header’)]
What am I missing here? Should be straightforward, shouldn't it?
Testing in Chrome Canary.

The invalid typographical apostrophes above happened when I copy-pasted into this form. I was using ' in the actual console.
I was playing around on an archived version of the page at the Wayback Machine (WM) and nothing worked. However, when trying on the live version, everything worked as expected (the problem with the live version was that the final element I was "aiming" at currently is missing but will return later on, therefore I used WM). Any ideas why // seems broken on WM? Even if WM adds a few levels of divs, // should be transparent about that, shouldn't it?
Just use this xpath.
//div[#class='header group']
you should use something like this
<xpath expr="//div[hasclass('header') and hasclass('group')]" position="replace">
<t>
xxxxxx
</t>
</xpath>
Hi I have this element from a dropdown menu I try to select:
<div class="tt-suggestion tt-selectable">
<strong class="tt-highlight">Auto Customer</strong>
</div>
If I use element(by.xpath("//strong[contains(text(),'Auto Customer')]")).click(); I can select it no problem. But if I use element(by.xpath("//*[contains(text(),'Auto Customer')]")).click(); I get "Failed: element not visible"
Can someone explain this to me please?
Thank you
Because the * in //*[contains(text(),'Auto Customer')] means any tag, not only the strong Tag. But //strong[contains(text(),'Auto Customer')] must be strong Tag.
//*[contains(text(),'Auto Customer')] should find more then one elements on page, and the first one is not visible. You can try this xpath in Chrome DevTool's Element Tab to see how many elements it can find and the first one is visible or not.
I am trying to click on the link whose site is www.qualtrapharma.com by searching in google
"qualtra" but there is problem in writing xpath as <cite> tag contains <B> tag inside it. How to do any any one suggest?
<div class="f kv" style="white-space:nowrap">
<cite class="vurls">
www.
<b>qualtra</b>
pharma.com/
</cite>
<div>
You may overcome this by using the '.' in the XPath, which stands for the 'text in the current node'.
The XPath would look like the following:
//cite[.='www.qualtrapharma.com/']
Folks,
I have an image with the following HTML code:
<div unselectable="on" class="x-grid-cell-inner x-unselectable" style="; text-align: right;" id="ext-gen1453">
<img alt=""src="data:image/gif;base64,FRFRFR/GFFFFFFFFFF==" class="x-action-col-icon x-action-col-0 folder-action-add folder-action" data-qtip="Add New Music File" id="ext-gen1300">
When I click on the image it should open a pop up so that I can add new music file, I tried a few things but I am not able to click on that image. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot
You can click on it by the class or a partial match of the class.
#browser.image(:class=>/folder-action-add folder-action/).click
Here is a list of the identifiers you can use for watir, I think it's mostly the same for watir-webdriver.
So far, you haven't got a consistent way of actually identifying the element. From what you've said in the comments, you've tried the 'text' attribute which doesn't exist, and the 'id' attribute which is auto generated and different every time.
You need to find a way of consistently identifying the element. It's usually preferable to use a semantic class on the element to make styling and testing easier and less brittle. You have a few classes declared, perhaps 'folder-action-add' expresses the intent of the button clearly? If not, you could add one such as 'add-music-file'.
Then you should be able to use watir to select an element by it's class, I'm not familiar with the syntax but at a guess, #browser.image(:class => 'add-music-file') might do the job.
Dear friends,I want to extract text 平均3.6 星 from this code segment excerpted from amazon.cn.
<div class="content"><ul>
<li><b>用户评分:</b>
<span class="crAvgStars" style="white-space:no-wrap;">
<span class="asinReviewsSummary" ref="dp_db_cm_cr_acr_pop_" name="B004GUSIKO">
<a>
<span class="swSprite s_star_3_5 " title="平均3.6 星">
<span>平均3.6 星</span>
</span>
</a>
My question is span class tag value "s_star_3_5 " vary from different customer's rating level and appended dynamically. So I attempt to use doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode(" //span[#class='swSprite']").InnerText or //span[#class='swSprite s_star_3_5 '], but the result is an error or not what my want !
Any suggestions?
First of all, I suggest you saving the value of doc.DocumentNode.OuterHtml to a local .html file and see if the code you're obtaining is that code. The thing is that sometimes you start parsing a website using HtmlAgilityPack, but the very first problem is that you're not getting the valid HTML correctly. Maybe you're getting a 404 error, or a redirection, etc.
I'm suggesting this because I tested //span[#class='swSprite s_star_3_5 '] and worked correctly.
That was the issue in the following questions:
Selecting nodes that have an attribute with spaces using HTMLAgilityPack
XPath Query Problem using HTML Agility Pack
If that doesn't help, post the HTML code and I'll help you ;)
This works for me:
HtmlDocument doc = new HtmlDocument();
doc.Load(myHtml);
HtmlNode node = doc.DocumentNode.SelectSingleNode("//span[starts-with(#class, 'swSprite')]");
Console.WriteLine("Text=" + node.InnerText.Trim());
and outputs
平均3.6 星
Note I use the XPATH starts-with function.
