Check for a valid guid - vbscript

How can you check if a string is a valid GUID in vbscript? Has anyone written an IsGuid method?

This function is working in classic ASP:
Function isGUID(byval strGUID)
if isnull(strGUID) then
isGUID = false
exit function
end if
dim regEx
set regEx = New RegExp
regEx.Pattern = "^({|\()?[A-Fa-f0-9]{8}-([A-Fa-f0-9]{4}-){3}[A-Fa-f0-9]{12}(}|\))?$"
isGUID = regEx.Test(strGUID)
set RegEx = nothing
End Function

This is similar to the same question in c#. Here is the regex you will need...
^[A-Fa-f0-9]{32}$|^({|()?[A-Fa-f0-9]{8}-([A-Fa-f0-9]{4}-){3}[A-Fa-f0-9]{12}(}|))?$|^({)?[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,10}(, {0,1}[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,6}){2}, {0,1}({)([0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,4}, {0,1}){7}[0xA-Fa-f0-9]{3,4}(}})$
But that is just for starters. You will also have to verify that the various parts such as the date/time are within acceptable ranges. To get an idea of just how complex it is to test for a valid GUID, look at the source code for one of the Guid constructors.

In VBScript you can use the RegExp object to match the string using regular expressions.

Techek's function did not work for me in classic ASP (vbScript). It always returned True for some odd reason. With a few minor changes it did work. See below
Function isGUID(byval strGUID)
if isnull(strGUID) then
isGUID = false
exit function
end if
dim regEx
set regEx = New RegExp
regEx.Pattern = "{[0-9A-Fa-f-]+}"
isGUID = regEx.Test(strGUID)
set RegEx = nothing
End Function

there is another solution:
try
{
Guid g = new Guid(stringGuid);
safeUseGuid(stringGuid); //this statement will execute only if guid is correct
}catch(Exception){}

How to use Not contains function in string in UIPath?

I trying to find the syntax where I can use Not keyword with String.Contains condition in UIPath.
Example for : I have following variable.
strValue = “This is Test”
I want to check whether 'Test' word is not existed in the variable then it should show me some message.
I have tried below approach but it did not work.
Not strValue.Contains(“Test”)
you can use indexOf(). It will return -1 if value to search is not present in string.
strValue = “This is Test”
var i = strValue.indexOf("Test");
if(i>0){
console.log('Test is present in strValue');
}

After performing string.slice() return string with part removed

Im sure this is very obvious but I cant seem to get it work.
I have a Pathname instance and Im attempting to remove the first directory from it and then return the rest of the string, but because slice returns the part removed it seems there is no way of getting the smaller string back.
filepath = Pathname.new("this_folder_needs_to_go/another_folder/file.html")
filedir = filepath.to_s.slice("this_folder_needs_to_go/")
newfilepath = filedir
I would hope newfilepath would be another_folder/file.html but instead it just returns this_folder_needs_to_go/
So how on earth to I get the string that has had the part removed?
Using String#split:
"this_folder_needs_to_go/another_folder/file.html".split('/', 2)[1]
# => "another_folder/file.html"
You can also use .slice! instead of .slice if you're trying to modify your string
filepath = Pathname.new("this_folder_needs_to_go/another_folder/file.html")
filepath.to_s.slice!("this_folder_needs_to_go/")
puts filepath ==> "another_folder/file.html"
Though that will affect your filepath variable irreversibly.
#partition will also work in a similar manner to #split
filepath = Pathname.new("this_folder_needs_to_go/another_folder/file.html")
file_dir = filepath.partition("this_folder_needs_to_go/")[-1]
file_dir
#=> "another_folder/file.html"
#partition returns [head,sep,tail] so this will look like ["","this_folder_needs_to_go","/another_folder/file.html"] the [-1] says get the last element.

Error "object doesn't support this property or method: dbrowser.GetRoProperty"

I was trying to run below script, but it's giving me an error that says:
object doesn't support this property or method: "dbrowser.GetRoProperty"
SystemUtil.Run "iexplore.exe","http://usps.com/"
Set dbrowser = description.Create
dbrowser ("micclass").value = "Browser"
dbrowser("openurl").value = "https://www.usps.com"
dbrowser("title").value = "USPS - The United States Postal Service (U.S. Postal Service)"
print(dbrowser.getroproperty("title"))
Your dbrowser object is of type Description not Browser you need to create a Browser object based on this description. Replace the last line with:
Print Browser(dbrowser).GetROProperty("title")
Note, there are two changes here
Using Browser(dbrowser)
Removing the parens from the print sub.
Edit: also note that descriptions are regular expressions by default so the parens in the title may cause problems, you should mark it as not regex.
dbrowser("title").RegularExpression = False
Description.Create is used to create a 0-based Properties collection object. The variable dbrowser is preceded by the Set statement. Usage of Set statement binds an object as a reference to another object. Therefore, dbrowser becomes an object reference to the description object represented by Description.Create
A description object does not have a stand-alone use, but coupled with the ChildObjects method, it becomes an extremely powerful approach in dealing with AUT’s objects .For More Info, check link
So the code should be like
SystemUtil.Run "iexplore.exe","http://usps.com/"
wait(10)
Set dbrowser = description.Create
dbrowser ("micclass").value = "Browser"
dbrowser("openurl").value = "https://www.usps.com"
dbrowser("title").value = "USPS.*" ''Using Regular Expression here
Set colObject = Desktop.ChildObjects( dbrowser )
Print (colObject(0).GetROProperty("title"))

How to get part of string after some word with Ruby?

I have a string containing a path:
/var/www/project/data/path/to/file.mp3
I need to get the substring starting with '/data' and delete all before it. So, I need to get only /data/path/to/file.mp3.
What would be the fastest solution?
'/var/www/project/data/path/to/file.mp3'.match(/\/data.*/)[0]
=> "/data/path/to/file.mp3"
could be as easy as:
string = '/var/www/project/data/path/to/file.mp3'
path = string[/\/data.*/]
puts path
=> /data/path/to/file.mp3
Using regular expression is a good way. Though I am not familiar with ruby, I think ruby should have some function like "substring()"(maybe another name in ruby).
Here is a demo by using javascript:
var str = "/var/www/project/data/path/to/file.mp3";
var startIndex = str.indexOf("/data");
var result = str.substring(startIndex );
And the link on jsfiddle demo
I think the code in ruby is similar, you can check the documentation. Hope it's helpful.
Please try this:
"/var/www/project/data/path/to/file.mp3".scan(/\/var\/www(\/.+)*/)
It should return you all occurrences.

How to generate a GUID in VBScript?

I want to generate GUID strings in VBScript. I know that there's no built-in function in VBScript for generating one. I don't want to use random-generated GUIDs. Maybe there is an ActiveX object that can be created using CreateObject() that is sure to be installed on (newer) Windows versions that can generate a GUID?
Function CreateGUID
Dim TypeLib
Set TypeLib = CreateObject("Scriptlet.TypeLib")
CreateGUID = Mid(TypeLib.Guid, 2, 36)
End Function
This function will return a plain GUID, e.g., 47BC69BD-06A5-4617-B730-B644DBCD40A9.
If you want a GUID in a registry format, e.g., {47BC69BD-06A5-4617-B730-B644DBCD40A9}, change the function's last line to
CreateGUID = Left(TypeLib.Guid, 38)
How Can I Create a GUID Using a Script? (in: Hey, Scripting Guy! Blog) says this:
Set TypeLib = CreateObject("Scriptlet.TypeLib")
Wscript.Echo TypeLib.Guid
However, note that Scriptlet.TypeLib.Guid returns a null-terminated string, which can cause some things to ignore everything after the GUID. To fix that, you might need to use:
Set TypeLib = CreateObject("Scriptlet.TypeLib")
myGuid = TypeLib.Guid
myGuid = Left(myGuid, Len(myGuid)-2)
Wscript.Echo myGuid
' Returns a unique Guid on every call. Removes any cruft.
Function CreateGuid()
CreateGuid = Left(CreateObject("Scriptlet.TypeLib").Guid,38)
End Function
Set tlib = Server.CreateObject("Scriptlet.TypeLib")
strGuid = tlib.Guid
