What is tab #13119 on my VS 2008 toolbox? - visual-studio

I only noticed this last night, as I have not used the toolbox on this particular project for some time. Suddenly, all my Telerik controls, previously on their own tab, were missing, and this mysterious, empty tab #13119 was there. I added a new tab for Telerik and added all the controls, but the Telerik tab remained invisible, although the controls are still ticked to indicate that they are in the toolbox.

It seems to be a bug.
Citation from here:
Make sure you can see all of the folders on your box. We are heading to the realm of hidden files: (Under Tools --> Folder Options)
Close Visual Studio if it is open.
Go Here: C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\
Backup the following files in a temp folder for saftey and delete the originals.
(toolboxIndex_reset.tbd ,toolboxIndex.tbd ,toolbox_reset.tbd ,toolbox.tbd)
Restart Visual Studio and the files will be recreated. It'll take a few seconds for the toolbox to repopulate.

Maybe this helps: Toolbox Missing Controls

I get this now and again.
Try right clicking the Toolbox and select 'Reset Toolbox'

Empty toolbox and properties window in VS 2022

I have downloaded Visual Studio 2022 few weeks ago, from the first time I open it I found that both toolbox and properties window are empty
What should I do to fix this issue?
I am also facing the same problems. But in respect of toolbox, I right-clicked inside the empty toolbox and chose 'Reset toolbox' option in the context menu. After this, the toolbox items appeared. But in respect of the properties window, I am still searching for a solution.
When I first opened visual studio, I created the CMake project. Both the toolbox and property pages were empty. Resetting the toolbox did not help. Then, I closed and opened the visual studio and created a new empty project. With this, I am able to view the property pages(Rightclick Solution in Solution Explorer -> Properties). And for the toolbox, it was still empty. After few trials of 'reset toolbox', I did right click and 'show all' option. It worked.

Toolbox containing no items when I'm editing a dialog

I'm maintainig an old MFC application with Visual Studio 2013. Building the application works fine, but I'm unable to use the dialog editor.
When I open a dialog from the resource view, it displays correctly, I can click on the existing items, view their properties, move them etc.
But when I open the toolbox via the View-Toolbox command (Ctrl+Alt+X), all I get is an empty toolbox as displayed below:
Right click on the toolbar and "Reset Toolbox" doesn't change anything
Right click and then "Show all" shows an impressive list of tools, among those there is the Dialog Editor, but all items are inactive as shown in the picture below:
On the other hand when I create a new MFC project from scratch, the toolbox containing the dialog items works fine.
Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong?
FYI: in the meantime I use Visual Studio 6 (yes) for editing the resources.
There are two typical work arounds to get the toolbox back in Visual Studio. One is to reset the toolbox as you've tried. The other is to delete the “.tbd” files in your corresponding C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0 folder.

Code Window does not highlight selected (usually .cs) file in "Solution Explorer"

My Visual Studio has done something really weird.
Usually, when you are in the "edit window" and are changing code, the file you are editing will highlight in "Solution Explorer".
Also, if all projects are "collapsed" in "Solution Explorer", and then there is a file already open (as in, you can see its "tab"), when you click the tab of that file (to be able to edit it), the Solution-Explorer will un-collaspse that project and highlight the file you are editing.
My "Solution-Explorer-Highlight-The-Current-File" function has stopped working.
I can move from tab to tab to tab, and Solution-Explorer doesn't react at all.
I've googled and binged, and I either get 5 billions hits ... or none. The key phrases are too ambiguous I think.
Anybody ever seen this one?
I have VS2010 on the same machine, and it works just fine.
I have one Add-In installed, but it is installed in both VS2010 and VS2012. Thus I don't think it's the culprit.
Smaller hammer.
From the menu: Tools -> Options
From the tree: Projects and Solutions -> General
On the form check: Track Active Item in Solution Explorer
Well.
From here:
How do I truly reset every setting in Visual Studio 2012?
I found this "Big Hammer" command line switch.
/ResetUserData
I used it.
And now it works.
I hate to answer something myself, but just in case somebody hits this in the future.

visual studio 2010 toolbox standard controls missing

I have created an asp.net project in visual studio 2010 ultimate edition.
I can't see Standard, Data etc toolbox tabs, I can only see Telerik and HTML controls.
I tried to reset the toolbox, tried to delete C:\Users\mypcuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\*.tbd.
I also tried devenv /ResetSkipPkgs but nothing worked for me.
Please suggest a Solution thanks!
This may help you.
In the Toolbox, select the tab where you want to add the control.
Right-click the Toolbox and select Choose Items from the shortcut menu.
The Choose Toolbox Items dialog box opens. The following illustration shows the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box.
Try to right click on the Toolbox and select "Reset Toolbox"
The common controls should appear in the Dialog Editor list along with all the MFC ones that I seem to be limited to when the problem happens.
I have this happen frequently. I don't know what causes it, but this fix always works and is fine for me since I didn't customize anything.
This will help you...
In Visual studio, go to view-toolbar-check standard and layout..
Then restart the visual studio and be sure on design page and check for toolbox..
Now the standard toolbox items will appear.. Thanks.
Just for the Future Viewer of this page
VS 2010 standard ToolBox cannot be viewed.
Mostly this is happen on a first run.
It solved the problem with Ctrl + Alt + X in your keyboard.

Visual studio does not show content of files

Picture says it all, it should currently be showing a file but as you can see its having issues drawing the content of the file.
I have unloaded all addons and restart visual studio.
If it mathers the previus project was a VS 2k8.
New Info:
If i wait a good 5min ( I have a Quad core I7 with 6gb ram, 295gtx. VS is running from a SSD).
It will load the text, but im unable to "edit", as it will have loaded some document (.cs ) but when i select the one i want to edit it not realy open that file.
It can best be described as visual studio having a 5min lag.
I had this precise bug. I would open files from the solution explorer but the editor window would either not appear, only 1-2 lines of 100+ line files would display, or the file would display but I could not scroll or otherwise edit the file. Some parts of VS were working, i.e. little tooltips would appear if I moused over the right part of the (invisible) text but I obviously couldn't do much in this state.
I have a lot of VS stuff installed so I thought it was some sort of plugin or extension that was causing things to go screwy. These installed items include:
Visual Studio 2010 10.0.30319.1
ReSharper 5.1.3000.12 (JetBrains)
DevExpress DXCore 10.1.5 (free community edition)
DX Source Outliner (reason for DXCore, from sbohlen)
Tabs Studio 2.0.6 (www.tabsstudio.com)
Productivity Power Tools 10.0.11019.3 (Microsoft)
Snippet Designer 1.3.0 (Matt Manela)
I solved it (2/18/2011) by Tools... Extension Manager... disabling the Productivity Power Tools and Snippet Designer. No idea what was going on but this fixed it for me and I was back to work. Probably something in the system drawing and/or display options.
EDIT
The issue continues. Unfortunately it is intermittent and I have not be able to reproduce it reliably. Now the suspects are the BugShooting and CaptureWiz screen capture tools. I've had the behavior show up and then disappear in and around the time of logging bugs with them.
2nd EDIT
The issue continually continues. I have not yet been able to determine the cause but usually quitting VS and restarting resolves the issue(s). Other parts of the behavior includes the menu options (File, Edit, View, etc.) not operating properly as they show only the highlight but not the actual menu items. The solution will build and run just fine, but things still won't show up properly.
I had a similar issue whereby VS2012 was telling me that I had active (open) files, but the text editor was not displaying them. Clicking on the file(s) in the solution explorer seemingly did nothing. Alt + Tab just cycled through the open files, but still, nothing rendered on screen.
I solved it by clicking on the "WINDOW" menu item and then"Close All Documents". Visual Studio then behaved as expected and opened (and rendered) the files correctly.
This bug was created by mumble 1.2.x, but is fixed in the snapshot versions of 1.3.x. YOu can likely get simular bugs by other software that does DirectX overlay.
I had the same issue in Visual Studio 2012. It was fixed by running a repair of Visual Studio 2012 via Add/ Remove Programs.
The following had no effect:
Closing and reopening a solution
Opening different file types
Restarting Visual Studio
Adding and removing plugins
Resetting options via the 'Reset all Settings' option in Visual Studio's 'Import and Export Settings'
Rebooting windows
I had this problem in Visual Studio 2013. Problem was: extension "Regex Tester". I had to uninstall this extension.
