I have a VS 2005 application using C++ . It basically importing a large XML of around 9 GB into the application . After running for more than 18 hrs it gave an exception
0xc0000006 In page error. THe virtual memory consumed is 2.6 GB (I have set the 3GB) flag.
Does any one have a clue as to what caused this error and what could be the solution
0xC0000006 is STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR. As people much wiser than me already say, When you start getting in-page errors on your hard drive, it's time to go shopping for a new hard drive.
Probably you are out of memory. Can you run it again on a 64 bit machine?
A bit late, but maybe it will help someone.
If you are getting this error while starting the application from a network drive, try setting linker flag /SWAPRUN:NET in your vc++ project.
Disclaimer: I found this solution here

Have you ever experienced a slow linking process in a C++ project compile (I'm using VS2013)? I get linking process taking 15 minutes after a 5 minutes Build. A Rebuild or Visual Studio restart does not fix the issue.
Task manager shows mspdbsrv.exe taking a full core (25% on a 4-core), and pdb file creation is very slow, Kb after Kb it reaches 50 Mb.
Additional info:
the same project on another computer build and link in acceptable time.
antivirus is disabled
I've tried changing the pdb file creation location: no success
I've set the linker output Verbose, but it stops at one debug row and then wait all the time there.
VS2013 is updated to SP4
Hard disk activity led on my laptop is mostly turned off, so there's no full activity on the disk.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro.
VS2013 is run with administrator rights
Thank you.
Fixed changing "Debug Information Format" from /ZI (Edit and Continue feature) to /Zi. I still have no clue why this cause a slow linking only on a specific computer and not for the others. Hope this could help people coming here for the same issue.
Is it using Link-Time Code Generation? On VS2010 that step was single threaded so it takes much longer than the apparent compile step. On later versions this step was improved to be multithreaded, according to blog posts. It also mentioned that PDB access is a bottleneck. So, maybe you have an old mspdbsrv.exe on that system? Look at the version info on the file, compared across machines. There might also be some option to control its locking and multi-use behavior, hidden away someplace.
today I found that my laptop's fan is worked in full level. after checking performance tab in task manager I see CPU usage is 100% and not change. I see webproxy.exe process in top of resource monitor list and everytime I end this process, after 1 second it run again.
I searched for it but can't find any help. I just suspend it for help my dear CPU.
OS : windows 7 Professional
Arch. : x64
create a zip code, name it webproxy.exe, replace it with the real webproxy.exe file in C:/windows/syswow64 folder or where ever that is, in the safe mode.
I faced the same problem since I installed the "Web Freer".
It also copied the "webproxy.exe" file in the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" location and even when I uninstalled the program, it ran it from there, so you may need to delete it by yourself from there too. It may help preventing the same problem again.
I have Netbeans 7.0 and Spring application. I try to debug application, I always get PermGen space error. It runs normally. I'm new with debugging so can anyone give any hints how to deal with this problem?
Take a look at this Fresh Blurbs entry: Explaining java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space. Understanding and avoiding the Java Permgen Space error also discusses this memory leak problem. Last but not least take a look at this: Dealing with "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" error.
when i faced this problem it was after the number of look ups loaded on start up increased to some high number but my team didnt have this problem so
i tried a lot on the internet but the solution for me was
whenever i want to debug
i login to a new windows account i created and debug smoothly
i don't know why it worked
but i think net-beans on a new account has its default Gui IDE configuration as its just installed and it worked fine for me because i dont need to debug alot but the problem is there
it worked once so i installed another windows on another drive it worked for sure fast
hope it helps
**oops i edit what i posted it crashed again pergem space !! :(
I installed Eclipse Galileo and after trouble with the JDK, its starting well. But I have big problems with performance. Every third second, Eclipse is hanging for a while. It runs not smoothly. I need a efficient IDE as Eclipse for work. So, it would be very nice when you have a fast answer :)
Both Eclipse as the JDK are 64-bit versions.
Have you any ideas?
Update:
I can´t really explain the problem from scratch. But in my case, it was a trouble between Eclipse´s and the auto-complete-function of my OSK. If I disabled auto-complete, there was no hangs anymore. I don't know why the using of the OSK blocks the thread (?) of the whole editor.
Maybe anyone of you, has an idea why?
From your description it sounds like the garbage collector is being triggered. How much RAM have you got in the system? Depending on the plugins you're loading Eclipse can need quite a lot of it. I think the bare minimum is 256 Mb, and realistically you need at least 1 Gb, more if you're doing web development
Have you got an up-to-date JVM? Eclipse generally runs much quicker with a 1.6 JVM.
One other thing to check, do you have an aggressive virus scanner? Eclipse plugins are collections of small files in jars, some virus scanners can really slow down the performance. If you are able, remove the Eclipse install directory from the scanned files.
See this EclipseZone article or this question for some general performance tips.
Run Process Monitor and see what kind of system calls and/or file system calls the JVM is doing. Use filters aggressively to pinpoint a specific process. I had a similar issue where a graphics card utility triggered a flood of registry lookups for every UI update which just made Eclipse incredibly slow. (Somehow SWT was hit exceptionally hard by this bug, I'm not sure why.)
EDIT: I meant "Process Monitor", not "Process Explorer". But the link was correct.
You could try to run it from within a virtual machine set up on your computer to see if the problem is still there. If it's not, it might be faster for you to just work from within the virtual machine environment. Doesn't address the issue, but it may help avoid it altogether.
I had same problem so I just switched to the 32 bit version of Eclipse and it runs fine with no performance issues.

Same problem for me
I have Windows 7 professional 64 bit and 8gb of RAM
Eclipse is extremely slow, probably 5 times slower than the Windows Vista 32 bit machine I have recently upgraded from (Europa version) - and that machine was a complete dog!
Adding -Xmx1024m -XX:+UseParallelGC -vm C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll has made a pretty big difference
I have same problem as not respoinding.
I searched in internet for a solution. I found one by adding the below to
eclipse helios config file.
-vm
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe
Initially it looks Ok to start and click on the different buttons and
running on several files in eclips project. But when I click on debug
and step by step process. Then it is again showing not respoding.
I have a new laptop win7 installed.
I have the same problems with the 32 bit version, running with a 32 bit JVM.
It's more that my RCP Application which I developed with Eclipse is slow. I've tried both -Xmx1024m and -XX:+UseParallelGC, with no noticable effect. Has this issue been registed with eclipse.org?
Has anyone had and solved a problem where programs would terminate without any indication of why? I encounter this problem about every 6 months and I can get it to stop by having me (the administrator) log-in then out of the machine. After this things are back to normal for the next 6 months. I've seen this on Windows XP and Windows 2000 machines.
I've looked in the Event Viewer and monitored API calls and I cannot see anything out of the ordinary.
UPDATE: On the Windows 2000 machine, Visual Basic 6 would terminate when loading a project. On the Windows XP machine, IIS stopped working until I logged in then out.
UPDATE: Restarting the machine doesn't work.
Perhaps it's not solved by you logging in, but by the user logging out. It could be a memory leak and logging out closes the process, causing windows to reclaim the memory. I assume programs indicated multiple applications, so it could be a shared dll that's causing the problem. Is there any kind of similarities in the programs? .Net, VB6, Office, and so on, or is it everything on the computer? You may be able to narrow it down to shared libraries.
During the 6 month "no error" time frame, is the system always on and logged in? If that's the case, you may suggest the user periodically reboot, perhaps once a week, in order to reclaim leaked memory, or memory claimed by hanging programs that didn't close properly.
You need to take this issue to the software developer.
The more details you provide the more likely it will be that you will get an answer: explain what exact program was 'terminating'. A termination is usually caused by an internal unhandled error, and not all programs check for them, and log them before quitting. However I think you can install Dr Watson, and it will give you at least a stack trace when a crash happens.
