I'm setting up a proper dev environment for my client (dev/qa/stage/prod). I'd like to find a way to export reports so we can cleanly move from one environment to the next. Custom RDL type reports are easy (just import the RDL in the next environment), but the reports that are built inside CRM don't appear to export anywhere. Am I missing something? Is this another feature that was missed?

For any report in CRM you can:
Navigate to the reports grid
Highlight the report you want
Click Edit report
Click Actions-> Download Report
This will give you the .rdl file. Why do you want to export and import native reports?
The reports are stored in the CRM installation directory which will most likely be something like the following: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Reports\
Go to reports.
Select the report and click 'edit report' in the toolbar
in actions click 'Download report' and you get a spiffy little RDL file to play with.

When I use the "new workbook" option as the start document, the add-in loads automatically but when i add my own test file it doesn't load. I have to go to manually start it in the insert tab.

I have just opened up a project that contains SSRs reports and yet I am unable to view them in Design Mode. When I click on them, only the XMLS appear and I am not sure how to resolve this in VS 2012 ?
In a version of Visual Studio that includes SQL Server Report Services, create a new Report Server Project.
In the new Report Server Project, right-click the project node in the Solution Explorer and choose "Add" > "Existing Item...". Then browse to and select the RDL file. Once it is in a Report Server Project, you can right-click the report and choose "View Designer" to see it in Design View. By default, it ought to open in Design View anyway.
If the file is not part of a Report Server Project, you'll only be able to view the XML text. Depending upon the Version of Visual Studio you may (or may not) get XML highlighting and intellisense.
Rename report as '.rdlc' it will open in design mode in Visual studio 2012
In Visual Studio 2015:
First make sure you have installed Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools, then rename your reports to .rdls, right click on reports > Open With > Report Designer
If you are not able to create / add Report Server Project download and install Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 from the location here (if you VS is 2012). Then create an new report server Reproting server project project Report Server Project and do as "add Existing Item" as my RDL report which need to be opened and go for design view. Then it will open the report in design mode.
You are missing Report Template in visual studio
Got to Control Panel->Programs->Programs and Features.
Select you Visual Studio Version, right click and 'Change'.
The Visual Studio Setup splashscreen should appear, Click on Modify at the bottom left, and then under 'Windows and Web Development' select Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools. The Reporting option should then appear in your installed updates.
After installing Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools, you would need to install Report Viewer for Visual Studio 2017 (or which ever version you are using)... that worked for me from link below:

You can force open it by Right click on RDL file and click on View Designer to see the RDL in design mode.
Once you have the needed extensions (Microsoft Reporting Services, Report Designer) installed and everything updated, what worked for me was to open the .rptproj project, and then open the needed .rdl.
I have many reports in which header section is the same. I want to create a common template of Crystal Report in Visual Studio 2010 where I can put my common header and use this template in all other reports.
I know that I can create report template using template field object, but I cannot see this type of item in my Crystal Reports -> Insert menu.
So my question is: how is it possible to create Crystal Report Template In visual studio 2010?
Using Crystal Report you can create a Report Template as your requirement (Data Connection is not required, just objects can be added like logo, headers, footers, etc.,). After completing save as .rpt. Whenever u need to create a new report in this format, u can import this report using Template Expert.

If you want to do this in visual studio,
I can suggest you to create a Format Report and save as .rpt
while you open a new report select From an Existing Report and browse the Format Report u made already. Hence the new report which your created will looks like your format report.
I've seen some SVN tools that use a "diff" command that will highlight the differences between two files. However, I don't understand how to do this within Visual Web developer 2010 (Express). Any help discovering this method will be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if VWD has its own file compare function, but you could use WinDiff from the Windows SDK. Here is the link for version 7.1 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8279

To compare two files

In visual studio 2010, under solution explorer the source control icons by the files denote that the file is currently checked out. However if I look at the file in the source control explorer it appears not to be checked out. I have tried the "refresh" button in solution explorer as well as "get latest version...". Neither update the status icon by the file. Thanks in advance.
Try the 'Refresh Status' command available on the File > Source Control menu. This command is also available on the 'Source Control - Team Foundation' toolbar if you have it showing.
Is it possible that the file is checked out under another workspace? If the Source Control Explorer (SCE), look in the "User" column for one of the files that appear checked out. Does a user name (with a workspace name in parenthese) appear? If so, then that user has the file checked out within the workspace listed.
