I've been using jQTouch to make an iphone-like website. But, I don't want it to look like a native iPhone app (Since people will be using it on other phones), but I don't really like the included JQT theme. Anyone know any other themes? I've searched long and hard, but can't find any. If worst comes to worse, I guess I could always make my own, but I'm not too good at graphics. Just wondering if anybody knows about any others, including those in demos?
Thanks in advance!

I've created one, available for download here
It's easily customizable, has Retina support and uses lots of CSS3 and a minimum amount of images.

as per my point of view you don't need to have graphics knowledge, coz in jqtouch you can use css3 and using that you can develop a kick ass theme.

I am planning to create a smartphone app for my website. I've searched everywhere, but it seems like all suggest to use apps, like andromo, appmaker, and more.
While I want to start from the bottom, it's harder not the important thing I can know what frameworks are needed so I become more free if I want to change or add style according to my will.
Like when creating a website, I prefer to organize HTML templates manually, than using CMS wordpress or others. So I think you guys have understood what I mean.
So, can I do that?
All the answers must be appreciated, and I thank you for that.
If you are looking for native android application development you need to develop it in Kotlin or java using Android SDK. There are some other languages can use also.

I want to use image maps & http://dev.w3.org/html5/spec/the-map-element.html#dom-map-images. I haven't seen much of this kind of usage(exception might be in case of HTML5 Canvas because one of the above link is of HTML5, not sure though) and since advent of jquery and other libraries. I guess there are more easier ways to implement this. So I was wondering if there are any libraries or better ways to implement image maps in jQuery Mobile or do I need to go with the old practice.
Thanks,
As per my knowledge image maps are not introduced in HTML5, but there are supported in all browser since many years.
I am not sure, what you want to achieve with jquery library, but I have used couple of years ago for highlighting image map areas,& it worked like a charm.

Has anyone tried using MoSync lately? Apparently they are dropping the "beta" title soon and will be officially launching in a few weeks. How do they compare to say Appcelerator?
You should try the new new version,
http://www.mosync.com/documentation/manualpages/whats-new-mosync-26-pyramid
I especially love the HTML integration, the ability to create and call native code, it both directions, cool :) I'm really excited about the potential of HTML UI.

Appcelerator works by building you an application that contains a WebKit and JavaScript engine that runs your application. This makes the build's slightly bigger.
MoSync can target more platforms than AppCelerator because it's designed to be able to output to any target platform.
Regarding to the immature situation and the somewhat bright feature of WebGL, I decide to use it to build an online application. For those users who have Firefox 4 or Chrome, there is no problem. But what should I do for the users of Firefox 3.* or even IE 6, 7, etc.?
So I'd like to ask that if there is any possible to write a plugin/addon. And when my codes detect the incompatibility, it can alert the user to download/install this extra component to enable them using the WebGL contents.
I noticed that nearly all instructions of WebGL only ask you to install the new, modern browsers to access WebGL contents, but none of them tell you how to handle the old browsers. Will there be a way for the survival of old school browsers?
Thanks very much.
As far as IE goes you should be able to use google chrome frame when webgl hits chrome(you can already hack it to get it working). And since you don't need admin rights to install it anymore it shouldn't be that much of a hurdle. As far as FF3 goes, I don't think that's much
of a long term issue, FF users are sensible and upgrade ;-)
To the best of my knowledge there is no easy answer to this.
If you want to write WebGL code that - without change - will also run on old browsers, then I can only think of Google's O3D project. Here you won't be directly writing WebGL code though. O3D is being implemented on top of WebGL, but its previous implementation was plugin based. So you can write your game or 3D app in O3D and prompt your users with old browser to install the plugin.
A much harder solution that I implement in my project 3DTin, is when WebGL is not available I do some 3D math in software and render it on Canvas 2D. It works if your 3D app is not very complicated. My app runs on all major browsers, including IE 7,8 with the help of excanvas. However this approach is not an option if your 3D scenes are complicated. You may want to look at following 3D javascript libraries that render on top of Canvas 2D:
pre3d
three.js
I looked already and couldn't find anything good.
So a question is, are there any good web frameworks that would allow to easily develop GUI for the majority of high end phones? By this I mean
It would have to work "the same" on majority of high end phones (forget the low cost ones)
It would have to simplify the development and hide the ugly details from developer
Clear design and good documentation. Also some stability on the market.
The focus is on good looking and easy to make GUI. Javascript is only a plus.
So basically I am looking for something like jQuery or maybe ExtJS for phone development.
EDIT:
It would be a big plus if it could be consumed in Delphi
EDIT 2:
If it was not clear, I am looking for a web base solution that would run in a browser. So the target is HTML output and not native code.
To contribute to the subject. I found a question that has answers to such topic:
iWebkit vs. JQTouch vs. iUI
So there seem to be the following frameworks:
iUI
jQTouch
WebApp.net
iWebKit
Yahoo! Blueprint
JQTouch
PhoneGap
Sencha Touch
jQueryMobile
PhoneGap supports a wide variety of phones but it does so by making native (or interpreted I don't know) code to run on them, so it is a no go for me.
Yahoo! Blueprint supports a lot of phones also, but seems to need a special framework to run on. So also a no go.
jQTouch and WebApp.net look promissing, but they only support webkit based browsers. Yes these are in majority these days probably, but Blackberry for one has non webkit based browser and Blackberry is very important to me.
I will keep looking, in the meantime, don't be shy to contribute ;)
EDIT
Found this wiki about some frameworks. Most are embedded.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiple_phone_web_based_application_framework
EDIT2
I added Sencha Touch (www.sencha.com/products/touch) to the list as it was added after this post was created. They are the former ExtJS and now have the WebKit based mobile solution.
EDIT3
I added jQuery Mobile (http://jquerymobile.com/) to the list as it was added after this post was created.
Sencha Touch seams to be the solution. Since UniGui for Delphi/Lazarus already supports eye catching ExtJS it would be ideal if it extends to Sencha Touch. We will see.
I'm confused, do you want a web framework that runs on the web for phones (like jqTouch), or are you looking for something that will create native apps provides some amount of portability (like MonoTouch/C#)?
lightweight jquery-like alternative that works on android & iphone (& possibly blackberry & winmo) is xui, cfr. http://xuijs.com/documentation and http://github.com/brianleroux/xui.
edit: xui is more about javascript and less about a good looking GUI, so this might not be what you're looking for after all.
